MARCH 7--Two Ohio women propped up a man’s corpse in their vehicle and withdrew money from the dead man’s bank account before dropping the 80-year-old’s body off at a hospital emergency room, police allege. Prosecutors this week charged Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, and Karen Casbohm, 63, with theft and gross abuse of a corpse, both felonies, in connection with their alleged activities following the death of Douglas Layman. According to police, the two women were not related to Layman, but lived with him at his home in Ashtabula, a city about 50 miles from Cleveland. Cops say that Feralo and Casbohm--with the help of a third individual--removed Layman’s corpse from the residence on Monday and placed the body in the front passenger seat of his car and then headed to a nearby bank’s drive-thru window. This article is about the obsolete Spanish coin. For other uses, see Picayune (disambiguation). A picayune was a Spanish coin, worth half a real or one sixteenth of a dollar. Its name derives from the French picaillon, which is itself from the Provençal picaioun, the name of an unrelated small copper coin from Savoy.[1] By extension, picayune can mean "trivial" or "of little value". I did not know that. Posted by: Helena Handbasket at March 09, 2024 10:23 PM (llON8) 88

Burgers and onion rings... a match made in heaven. A different beer would go well with that combination...
Posted by: Legally Sufficient That's why they're just using the Bud bottle as an onion-ring stand. You can see the beer in the background, but it's blurry. It could be Guinness if the head were a bit darker-colored, so it's probably some other sort of stout or porter. Posted by: mikeski at March 09, 2024 10:11 PM (DgGvY) * * * * Good! Because Bud isn't beer and should not be consumed by humans. But reusing the bottle for holding onion rings is... sustainable, right? I was quoted by name in the New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper.
Just what is a Picayune? Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. >>> From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about the obsolete Spanish coin. Posted by: Helena Handbasket So the Times-Picayune used to cost a picayune? Or a picayune times something? I'd go with the non-coin definition, myself, since it's the MSM. picayune adjective 1. Of little value or importance; paltry. 2. Petty; small-minded. 3. Petty, trivial; of little consequence; small and of little importance. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition I think all three apply! - My first shift being an on call deputy district attorney involved an elderly man found dead in a low rent residential hotel. It looked like natural causes except it was clear the body had been moved post mortum. The cops and I were discussing the situation when one of the deceased's neighbors came in to scavenge. Turns out the deceased had been rude enough to expire on top of the TV cord plugged into the wall and his neighbor had to move the body to make off with the TV. The only time I see television is if I happen to be in a bar or place where it's on a monitor, which is either during the day, when the 3rd shift bars run MeTV or Grit for the old folks, or my local late night truckstop diner, which plays Fox News with the sound off. For decades, a broad majority of people have wanted to end the "time" "change," and it never happens. It's just the government rubbing people's noses in it. They could, so they did. That 'creek' business came up as the owner removed some trees in the small plain rising from the 'creek'. A neighbor complained (some woman got mad, people are insane about trees whether they're on their own property or not) and the cop who showed up had recently transferred in from a city and wrote the owner a ticket for trespassing and vandalism, on his own property.
It was a hassle but the end result was a plat of survey had to be shown to the judge, the cop got told to get his shit together, and the crazy lady got told to mind her own damn business. Posted by: LenNeal at March 09, 2024 11:14 PM (9yXr+) 211

None of the lawyers have noted the obvious fact that DA Willis LISTENED to Nathan Wade's testimony despite the judge's sequestration order, for all potential witnesses in the case. Remember she stormed into the court room angry, and DEMANDED to be called as a witness. If she didn't listen to his testimony, which from her answers, she obviously did, why would she demand to testify? Recall that her prosecution team was actually arguing a motion to exclude her from having to testify, when she changed her mind and demanded to be heard. Other than listening to Wade's testimony how would she know things were going badly?

Hittites were Indo-Europeans, unlike the other people's in the region. I watched a fascinating piece about the couple who spent 20 years going through cuneiform tablets from Hattusha until they were finally able to read the language.
----------- That's similar to the deciphering of Linear B, found on clay tablets on Crete. The task of deciphering an unknown language from fragments written in unknown symbols is a daunting challenge. It took decades to make any headway at all. In the meantime, there were all kinds of wild theories about which language Linear B expressed. Posted by: Homer at March 10, 2024 12:01 AM (bo7UB) 262

Quick update on my mother: Her speech is improving. It's still all messed up, but it's a very improved messed up. Wrong words in wrong order, but she's actually saying sentences. They're messed up, wrong sentences, but they are sentences. Today was the SEC semifinals for the girls basketball. Mama has been a big SC Girls fans (in the old days, they called the Girl Gamecocks "Pullets"). Game today was a nail biter. They blew an early 23 point lead, and nearly lost, but won with a last second 3 point shot. That really focused Mama's attention and got her brain in gear. We also got her to eat the best, and most she has in one sitting since this whole mess started. Vegetable beef soup. I have a Cerwin-Vega, an 18", because 50 years ago it was the only thing that could handle the whole output of an SVT, 400W RMS. I built a cube cabinet, to be easy to move, and came up with nesting ducted ports that allowed me to tune it on-site. A slide rule was involved, and then some actual sliding.
After I quit playing Large Rooms, I cross-wired it into a passive single-channel crossover, added a filter coil to keep it from having to work higher frequencies, hid it under a room platform, and drove it as a subwoofer only channel with the SVT. Nobody in the neighborhood starts subwoofer wars with us, any more: they've learned to submit to the Valkyrie Ride. Well, that's what Cerwin Vega excelled at. Heavy bass at Rock n' Roll volumes.
Says a lot that you had to re-engineer SO much into the box, to make it do things you wanted. A good measure of a GREAT speaker? Can it accurately and fully produce the quiet passages of a Classical Music media? Can it re-produce the Jazz session as closely as possible as the tracks were recorded? AND THEN, can it blast the ROCK ANTHEM as hard and loudly as you might want? Cerwin Vega could DO the loud. On the quieter passages, it would suck it's own dick, and gag on it. It was like the speaker wasn't even really THERE. Most of the Advent line, and damn near all of the early Infinity line, and let's not forget...if you've never heard a JVC Zero Five or Zero Six hooked up to YOUR rig, well... you've not heard the best. By FAR. The very best speakers do not "affect" the sound. The BEST speakers accurately REPRODUCE the sound that was recorded in the studio. And that is ALL. ISTR there was another brand of electrostatic speakers before Magneplanar, that used actual metal panels instead of Mylar. They were impressive in a room because it looked like someone had wired up a section of galvanized corrugated tin roof.

He was mostly right then, and seldom wrong. But. If you put a set of 901s, perfectly placed, into a (near) perfect room. Then, OMG. You got to hear what everyone raved about lo, those many years ago. When they were good, they were GREAT. The most FLEXIBLE Bose speakers? The humble 301. They had a twist knob that would turn a baffle and let you tune the SPEAKER to the ROOM. And, it worked. Idiots. As to Ford and Chevy. Fuck Off. Every brand and kind of speaker has/had it's characteristics, and Cerwin Vega was EXACTLY as I've described it. I don't care if your front pair are Steinway Concert Grands. You chose to make an 18" CV do what it wasn't made to do, and that might speak more to your engineering prowess than to CV's speaker design. Or, lack, thereof. There are no shortage of homies rollin' da 'hoods, thumpin' dat bass at streetlight shattering levels, and they don't impress me, either. 'Blows' The 901's required careful placement, and *lots* of power. No surprise, if one is going to try to produce decent bass from 4" drivers. But whatever, it was necessary that an equalizer be a part of the system, to produce bass, and to even out the output from the 4" speakers across the audio band. Sorry, they sucked, they just sucked in terms of quality of sound vs. $. YMMV Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at March 10, 2024 02:01 AM (XeU6L) 361

Give it a good mid range and tweeter, and a quality crossover, though. Inside baseball. The smaller driver will yield significantly higher acoustical accuracy than that 15" bass cone.
