Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() Hundreds of thousands of young salmon are believed to have died this week at the site of a historic dam removal project on the Klamath River, after an effort to restore salmon runs on the newly unconstrained river went awry, the Chronicle has learned. The dead chinook salmon were among the first hatchery fish released on the Klamath since four hydroelectric dams were breached near the California-Oregon border, to allow the river to flow freely again and ultimately help fish flourish. Apparently nobody much cares about the salmon, and the goal was to...what? Destroy clean energy production? Suck up to the lunatic but tiny Indian pressure groups? Save the world from the evils of Global Warming? buy indulgences from the Sustainable Organic Church Of The Carbon Apocalypse? And here we have a wonderful confluence of abject ignorance, rabid ideological purity, and even a technocrat underling who is a total f*cking retard when it comes to the very things he is supposed to know! ATF Chief Tells CBS He's Willing To Skirt Laws To Ban Guns He Doesn't Even Know How To Use When the interview shifted to a demonstration featuring a table of unloaded firearms, Dettelbach tried his best to make the case for more regulation of law-abiding Americans' top self-defense option. Even with the help of one of the ATF's "leading experts," however, Dettelbach failed to demonstrate knowledge of even the most basic firearm anatomy such as the difference between a clip and a magazine. Acting AFT division chief Chris Bort, the “expert” present for the demonstration, also struggled to disassemble a pistol in an attempt to show how allegedly easily Americans can swap firearm frames. Bort is acting head of the ATF’s Firearms Ammunition Technology Division. “Can’t get this one apart,” he mumbled as Dettelbach complained that the ATF is barred from regulating most gun parts outside of frames and receivers. Field stripping a Glock is not the most complex mechanical operation, and my bet is that with about 60 seconds of instruction, most people will be able to do it. Yet these dangerous fools are so detached from the reality of their positions that they don't have the most basic knowledge, yet are comfortable making asses of themselves...in public. Because it doesn't matter. They are not being judged on the quality of their work; they are being judged by their slavish adherence to the dominant paradigm: GUNS BAD! And they aren't even close to the worst! Mayorkas and Buttigieg are even dumber and more reflexively ideological! Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The rapidly evolving trend within the Democrat party apparatus is to reward loyalty with ever increasing responsibility, power, and graft/wealth. Notice the word "loyalty." Not competence. Not skill. Government has never been particularly competent or efficient; it's almost impossible without the pressures of a free market. But the catastrophic incompetency and failure that is becoming the norm seems to be driven by total rejection of even basic knowledge of the issues, and embracing the drive toward ideological purity and party loyalty.

The ATF is the enemy of the people. Thank God they are also fairly incompetent.
And field stripping a Glock is simple AF: 1. Remove magazine and clear chamber 2. Pull back slightly on the slide 3. Pull down the two tabs in forward of the trigger guard and let the slide go forward. 4. Pull the trigger (see step 1) and the upper slide will move off the frame. You can now remove the barrel and recoil spring. Done. Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, New Dune 2 review at March 05, 2024 11:07 AM (xcxpd) 24

Honestly. No more than two questions would be needed to interview a prospective head of ATF.
1. Does the federal government have the authority to regulate firearms? If they say yes, they're unqualified. 2. If they say no... given your previous answer, what value, with respect to firearms, does the ATF provide the taxpayer? If they say anything other than apologizing for wasting everyone's time, they're unqualified. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at March 05, 2024 11:07 AM (1Z8zZ) 27

Heh. I field-stripped an Eibar Ruby .32 last evening. Push slide back, lock in place with safety lever. Twist barrel 90 degrees, and pull it out. Release safety lever, pull slide forward and off, and slide spring and guide comes with it. There is a rough spot on the underside of the breechblock where it passes over the striker that needs attention.

That is the one thing that gives me hope. You look at Brennan, Comey, Mueller, McCabe, "General" Ben Hodges, and all the rest, and you ask yourself: "How did any of these people get to senior positions in large bureaucracies?" - it obviously wasn't competence. Brennan, for example, got all of our spies in China killed through poor CIA communications security, which apparently did not have the slightest impact on his career. We're not fighting supervillains here - we are fighting bureaucratic timeservers who have gotten to where they are through office politics and connections, not because they are competent. And? OK, so it's easy to remove a slide from one frame and put it on another. So frickin' what? You look at Brennan, Comey, Mueller, McCabe, "General" Ben Hodges, and all the rest, and you ask yourself: "How did any of these people get to senior positions in large bureaucracies?" - it obviously wasn't competence.
A big part of the selling point of the all powerful bureaucracy is competence. That they will have the "smartest minds" and "best trained experts" available to resolve any issue mankind might run into. And of course they fail constantly. But their saving grace is they control most the media do they don't get called on it. As a simple point to consider imagine if Trump had beat the Steal and continued as President? He would have been impeached over the clot shot and likely everyone involved with it jailed. Instead we are in this bizarre scenario where merely noting the government said the clot shot stops the spread of COVID is a "conspiracy theory" yet the shots are advertised as a way to protect your family and friends from COVID. AP: Federal Judge Reverses Himself, Rules That California's Ban on Billy Clubs Is Unconstitutional. A federal judge struck down a California law banning possession of club-like weapons, reversing his previous ruling from three years ago that upheld the prohibition on billy clubs, batons and similar blunt objects.
Benitez declared in Sept. 2021 that California’s ban on such weapons qualified as “longstanding” and therefore did not violate the Second Amendment. But while that ruling was under appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen that altered the legal analysis for Second Amendment regulations. The 2nd Amendment includes the phrase "well regulated". It has not been erased. are brass knuckles, military pikes, war axes, battle stars and nun-chucks also now covered under 'keep and bear arms' ? Strict construction lol. It's a tall order for them to pull that off again. In the past year, Biden's coherence shelf life during public appearances has been constantly revised downward. Government incompetence resulted in Las Cruces, NM police officer getting stabbed in the neck by a vagrant. Why do I say government incompetence is the reason this occurred? The state legislature has crafted laws that make it nearly impossible to commit people involuntarily and to hold them in jail on bail.
The consequences? 4 people have been hauled in to the local magistrate court 576 times. Five Hundred and Seventy Six times. There are no consequences until one of these lunatics on the street stab a police officer in the neck. The local business owners are constantly raising a ruckus over this only to meet the circle jerk of the City saying it is a policing problem, the police saying it is a court problem, the courts saying it is a legislative problem and the legislature, stacked with Democrats saying our values dictate we protect the vagrants. Democrats preferring ideology to competence is a trend that goes way back. We could probably date it to the presidency of "history's greatest monster", Jimmy Carter. I vividly recall the fuss when he appointed Joan Claybrook to head the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and people noted that she had never had a driver's license or driven a car. Just looked her up on Wikipedia, and (a) she's still alive at 86, and (b) they carefully omit that very pertinent fact. (It's conceivable that I have a false memory of an imaginary event, but I don't think so! Anyone else here remember?)

Putin is not a nice man, and Russia is our geopolitical competitor and needs to be treated as such, but installing people into senior foreign policy roles who fantasize about breaking Russia up into several dozen weak, nominally independent countries (as outlined by the Hudson Institute and the Helsinki Commission) has not done the United States any favors. Posted by: The ARC of History! at March 05, 2024 11:53 AM (YAtuc) 100%. And now, onto Chi Nah. China is a fierce competitor, and has been strengthened mostly by greedy and stupid American policy toward it. So now when everyone talks about going to war with them... why? Because you idiots mismanaged their rise, and now you want to take them down? Compete with them. They're a paper tiger in many important ways, and we're the U.S. of F'n A! We shouldn't be acting like they're some existential threat, we should be beating the snot out of them every which way but Sunday. But all our war pigs can think of is war as a solution. They really don't care about wildlife. Remember all the crying about the whales?( turned out the Soviets were the biggest whale killers btw) Now whales die because of wind turbines, they don't care. Remember the horror of DDT causing weak bird shells? It must be banned! Wind turbines kill thousands of birds including extremely rare protected species in California. What they want is human misery.

I voted in the VA primary today, and was surprised to see RDS still on the ballot, along with Nikki and Vivek. There were also two others, but I don't remember who.
Will Nikki Burn the Boats? William Kristol. I voted this morning in the Republican primary here in Virginia. I hadn’t voted in a Republican primary since 2016. I had to steel myself to ask for a ballot for my former party, one that is about to overwhelmingly nominate Trump for a third consecutive time. But I did so. And I cast my vote for Nikki Haley. Will Nikki follow in the footsteps of Hernán Cortés, the Spanish conquistador who, legend has it, burned his ships in 1519 so that he and his men would have to stay in the New World, to conquer or die? I believed Haley would choose to sail timidly back to Trump’s Republican party. I think she expected to do that. She expected to go back home again. But I no longer believe she expects to go back. I think it’s more likely she’ll embrace the logic that increasingly shaped her rhetoric and animated her campaign. I think she’ll refuse to endorse Trump. Americans are becoming increasingly idiotic; and American society is increasingly in the grip of idiots.
Some blame the public indoctrination (so-called education) system, but it’s so much more than that. Anyway, government is not immune to the growing idiocy taking hold of America. Hell, it’s a base of operations for the idiots. Posted by: Not Fat Dumb Ron at March 05, 2024 06:10 PM (nI4xo) 397
I think that what you posted was very logical.
However, consider this, what if you typed a catchier title? I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you added something that makes people want more? I mean The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition is kinda vanilla. You ought to peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they create news titles to get viewers to open the links. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to get readers excited about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it would bring your website a little livelier.
