Scholars went through the archives in Constantinople and Rome and translated historical documents contemporary to Jesus' life. Includes a letter from Pilate to Caesar, explaining what happened in Jerusalem, Herod's testimony to the roman senate explaining the killing of the babies, testimony of the 3 wise men to the sanhedrin explaining who they were, how they were called to God and how they were led to Jesus in Bethlehem. well, it is not like the mayor got into politics with the expectation of ever having to take responsibility for anything. If he wanted responsibility he would have gone into banking or something like that.
I will point out that most politicians go into politics for the glory, the adulation, the ability to wield power, and of course the graft opportunities. These are all anathema to the idea of taking responsibility. Posted by: Kindltot at February 28, 2024 03:09 PM (D7oie) Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at February 28, 2024 03:09 PM (9yWhg) 24

From NYT: In 2018, the local sheriff at the time, Ira Edwards, under pressure from Girtz and others, ended the practice of holding arrested immigrants in jail for 48-hour periods to give federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials an opportunity to pick them up for potential deportation. The next year, Girtz and the commission passed a resolution denouncing white supremacy and declaring that immigrants lacking permanent legal status should “feel welcome and comfortable” interacting with government. — What? He then insists there is no connection between crime and the crime of illegal immigration.
++++ I. Don't. Care. Let's go ahead and assume the illegal aliens - other than the first crime of illegal entry - commit crimes at the same rate as the native population. Hell, let's drift further into fantasy land and assume that they commit crimes at a *lower* rate than the native population. Is the crime rate of illegal aliens non-zero? If so, those crimes are all on the political leaders that have enabled this. Every single crime committed by an illegal alien was a surplus crime. They should never, under the law and reason and common sense, have been here to commit a crime in the first place. Every single crime committed by an illegal alien is a crime of choice. The leaders of this country *chose* to permit that crime, because they - they and not you, not the people - chose to permit the criminal to enter and stay. They therefore chose to sacrifice the victim. These are surplus crimes committed by surplus criminals. The surplus victims they create are merely an acceptable cost to the architects of the policies that created the opportunity to create that surplus. This was, according to the Hebrew system, the 25th day of the month Thehet^ (the Hebrew month for December), the second of the 193d Olympiad, or 747th of Rome, the 67th of Herod the Great, and the 35th of his reign. At the Joppa gate, by the southern wall, was a small group that attracted our special attention. It was a man and woman and donkey. The man stood by the animal holding a leading strap, while the donkey was feeding on some green grass. The man was leaning upon a staff he used as a goad and support. His dress was like that of the Jew. The mantle dropped from his head, and the robe or frock which clothed his person from neck to heel, was probably the garment he was accustomed to wear when attending his own synagogue at home. His features were exposed, and he seemed about thirty years old. He looked round him with a dull and stupid eye, as though there was but little care on his mind. The woman satin a cushioned pillow on the donkey's back. An outer robe of dull \voollen stuff completely covered her person.

When they're using illegals to suppress wages in low-skill labor markets, the argument goes "these are jobs Americans won't do for $18,500/yr. We need to import foreign slave labor, because our people are too good for this drudgery."
But when their slaves start killing, the argument seems to be "Americans commit murder all the time for free. We need more murderers from other countries; it's only fair." The first argument is immoral to begin with, and a self-referential solipsism. But it at least has a sort of logic to it, in a very narrow, ceteris paribus context. The second argument is indefensible. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at February 28, 2024 03:40 PM (0FoWg) 183

In their zeal to 'get' Trump, they have already destroyed the legal concept of Sovereign Immunity. He is being prosecuted for speech, that he did as President. They have also destroyed both lawyer client privilege, but Executive Privilege, by going after his lawyers, and Staff.
Most of this is happening in State Courts. So, if them is the rulez? Biden as President, conspired with Staff, to bypass Federal Immigration Law, and aided and abetted MILLIONS of Illegal Aliens to stay in this country. They have given the Money, legal aid, and transportation. States have had to give Billions in support of Biden's illegal Aliens, and thus, can show Harm, giving them standing. Since Sovereign Immunity is no longer a thing... sue him in STATE Court, under STATE law for the harm done to the State, and let People sue him as Civil Litigation for all the damages they have accrued. Joe,
My point was that if you apply a zero standard to crime for illegals, then the same logic has to apply to legal immigrants. What right does anyone have for inflicting "excess crime" on any victim. If your daughter was murdered by a legal (H-1b) immigrant, would you feel better that those H-1B visas were essential for the tech sector and Google profits? I see your point, and I agree 100% as it applies to illegals, but I just draw the lines a bit different. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 28, 2024 03:51 PM (jy+nc) 233

Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 28, 2024 03:51 PM (jy+nc) ++++ There, I disagree. One is a legal process and the risks are managed. You try to filter for only good entrants, but sometimes you will miss. No system is perfect. But if someone commits a crime and creates a victim and that person is here illegally, was permitted to come here illegally and stay here illegally despite the opportunity to have him not come here at all (better) or to remove him, that crime is surplus and so is the victim, and there is *zero* excuse for it. I dunno. That's possible, but I suspect vigilantism isn't that all common yet. There is probably - and justifiably - crashing confidence in the "criminal justice system," in terms of efficacy and accountability, but very high confidence in that system destroying you if you happen to engage in vigilantism.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) ----------------- There is vigilantism in the hoods already similar to the favelas of Brazil, people banding together in Mexico to fight cartels, and in the slums of Venezuela Simply put, gangs now run most of the cities like Chicago with the police as bystanders and in many places, the gang members have integrated into political offices and administrative offices in cities. In essence, one could consider a lot of cities as simply open prisons with more amenities and more or less run by gangs. Disorder and chaos are unstable societies and eventually as Hobbes predicted, people in those hellholes embrace anyone that imposes some sort of order even at the risk of 'sparks' of humanity being snuffed out. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 28, 2024 04:06 PM (jy+nc) ++++ I actually don't disagree at all. Jumping the border was a crime. The very first act of *every* illegal alien on American soil was a crime. My argument was simply that even *if* we were to discount that crime and write it off and reset the clock to zero, every *subsequent* crime was avoidable. That is distinct because it is the only category of crime I can think of that is avoidable by policy. There will always be criminals and there will always be violence, but crime committed by those who should never have been here is a special category because it was completely avoidable. It was optional. The government *chose* for that crime to happen. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 28, 2024 04:08 PM (HnUIn) 322

Are individual voters responsible for policy implemented by people they vote for who campaign on implementing that policy. You called it collective guilt. Why? Posted by: TheJamesMadison Because people raised on individuality of Americans don't want to think that way. However, you gotta serve someone---society controls lawbreakers even via harsh methods or government must and like it or not there will be collective punishment. If government is weak and society is strong, then tribalism will be your justice system (which is what the left is trying to institute here), if the government is strong, then it has to punish people according to their deserts, not to their circumstances so as to maintain the rule of law through something like broken windows policing AND it will have disparate impacts on 'tribes' depending on their proclivities to engaged in illegal activity. This argument has been done before--if you don't want collective punishment for your tribe--don't piss off other tribes if strong society exists or piss off the government in a weak society. Posted by: Orson ------------- Most people do not like the fact that life ain't fair. You want to live in risky areas, then you have to live in a style and behave in a certain way to minimize those risks. People do not want to adjust to that and young people typically have a skewed view of risk-benefit because a) society does not want them to grow up (hence the 25-26 year old 'teen'), and b) probably for genetic reasons--statistically yutes engage in riskier behavior than old folks. The best confrontation with a criminal that you ever have is avoiding the confrontation in the first place--requires judgement, prudence, and a recognition that some view other people as prey. Posted by: Bulgaroctonus ===== Guess what, a huge majority of counties have no murders in the last year as it was the year before. The response to murderous blue policies is to move out of there. Regarding Athens in particular, it has long been an area of high crime surrounded by counties and cities that have much less violent and drug crime and sane local government. So live in Athens, you get whatever hell is falling on the rest of the blue city denizens. Live elsewhere, you don't. That is called a clue to living in such places. Ditto for states, wanna live in NYC, then welcome to the jungle. Wanna live in a safe place, there are quite a few areas in upstate NY that are much safer. "Why did you vote for Biden, then?"
Of course neither I nor any member of my family DID vote for him. But getting in the 2020 wayback machine, I think the average Biden voter was miserable about Trump's response to Covid & the economic disasters that followed-- school closings; layoffs; small businesses failing; constant daily inconveniences. That, I submit, accounts for Biden having been competitive* with Trump. Trump brought this on himself by taking all the expert advice to heart, instead of trusting his instincts. *I'm seeking to avoid arguments about vote fraud. For purposes of this discussion ("Why'd they vote for Biden?"), that's why I just say "competitive." Posted by: mnw at February 28, 2024 04:34 PM (NLIak) 409

Posted by: runner at February 28, 2024 04:32 PM (V13WU) --- Well, yeah. The federal elections could be fixed, and it could still be possible that local elections aren't as fixed. I think it primarily has to do with parent-hatred. You don't want to vote like your parents, so conservatives are yucky. I'd guess that's why people have to be explicitly red-pilled. It's why the left has to be seen as outright crazy in order for people to change. Why they have to wait for the utter revulsion of the agents of "change", and decide that "you know, maybe change isn't a default good". Posted by: Axeman at February 28, 2024 05:17 PM (krQz2) 414
