EPA delays rules for existing natural gas power plants until after the election
AP https://tinyurl.com/2n2hte8x The EPA said it is delaying planned rules to curb emissions from existing natural gas plants that contribute to global warming. The agency said it is still on track to finalize rules for coal-fired power plants and new gas plants that have not come online...but in a turnaround from previous plans, the agency said it will review standards for existing gas plants and expand the rules to include more pollutants. The change came after complaints from environmental justice groups. EPA issued a proposed rule drastically curbing greenhouse gas emissions from existing coal and gas-fired plants...If finalized, the proposed regulation would mark the first time the federal government has restricted carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants...Biden administration has committed to create a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035. “We have always known that the fight for a clean power sector wouldn’t be a quick one,’' said Evergreen Action. “We are glad that EPA is committed to finishing the job with a new rule that covers every gas plant operating in the US" Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at March 01, 2024 08:06 PM (9aVck) 83

I've been in the middle of a bluefish feeding frenzy while swimming. Fish 10-15 lbs, churning up the water eating spot, chopping them in half, with gulls and many pelicans diving all around me. I balled myself up as much as possible and was getting bumped by the fish, but no bites. Lasted about a minute, then they moved on. Bluefish can chop off fingers, toes, or other appendages with no problem. NC Coast near Buxton. Never met a gannet up close.

--------- Even though he's head of a minor political party here, he's banned from traveling in India because he's a Sikh separatist so he'd say "Khalistan" instead of "Punjab". [Right next to "Palestine" and "Wakanda" on the map.] And he supported the bombing of Air India 182 -- thus AOP's reference. Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at March 01, 2024 09:12 PM (2yu8s) 203

There really needs to be a reworking of the political terms used to describe "sides". Probably not happen in the near future cause the current terminology is useful for hoodwinking and public confusion. Its easy when they WANT to do it like when they decided that " red" would be the color for "conservatives" when up till that point it had been the traditional color for "leftists" to the point they called themselves "reds". There really is no " left" and "right" anymore. Should really be "fascists" and "anti-fascists" but they already redefined "anti-fascist"

Posted by: Tom Servo at March 01, 2024 10:00 PM (q3gwH) basically they were cottonwood plantations that must have been 150 acres to a grove, and they were planted in among the wheat fields where the trees don't grow. The idea was that if you planted the trees you could sell the wood for paper pulp when the market was good, unlike wheat where you had to sell it every year. Unfortunately the market was never particularly very good I guess. I do wonder if anyone ever checked to see if a grove of trees that big would change the local temperatures much.
