Watered-down Navy grog. It was necessary to feed this to the early breeds of racing dogs to get them to run. Hence, "grig"-hounds, which evolved into "greyhounds."

70 I've known folks/relatives who've adopted post-racing career greyhounds.

They seem to have no personality. At all.

Eat and sleep. Kind of autistic toward their owners.

Not sure though if that's the breed or the result of the training for the racing life.

79 This is a very effective painting and, from what I can tell, exemplifies Courbet's realistic paint what you see approach. The three areas of color: amber of the shore,
and the narrow band of water blending into the turbulent sky make the dogs stand out. The calm pose of the dogs makes an interesting contrast with that sky. I like it.

For all his portraits and nudes, Courbet did some exquisite still life paintings. They are worth a look.

*deradicalization of society

It’s open ended, but this is the grown up approach to war. People want Hamas to have an escape hatch and an ability to continue to affect Israeli security.

No one can tell you exactly what will happen to Palestinian society, but Israelis thankfully recognize that the previous status quo was unacceptable.

This isn’t a situation where you just stop at some point and negotiate. Palestinian society is deeply sick and needs time, and the use of force, to be healed. This is the unfortunate reality and I’m glad that Israel is doing what it takes to ensure its survival.

I'd probably pass hanging this painting but thank you.

IMAGINE “LIBS OF TikTok,” but created by a state government to pillory public school teachers...created a portal called “Eyes on Education” that encourages members of the public to tattle on teachers they believe are pushing woke content on kids.

It is an interesting question as to why they fought so poorly in WWII.

A couple of ideas I've seen suggested:

The Italians did a major military upgrade in the mid-30s and therefore had out of date equipment when the war actually started

A number of the Italian military leaders opposed Germany and intentionally acted in a passive way militarily

Neither seems a great answer because in the first case every country had to re-upgrade its military during the war. In the second case I think this is self serving propaganda that was a convenient excuse after Italy lost the war...

I still think Perseus vs. Medusa in the original Clash of the Titans is one of the best and most effective animated sequences in movie history. Yes, Ray Marryhausen's animation is kind of jerky, compared to modern stuff. But the flickering light from the braziers in the darkened room works to cover that and gives us shadow and light for atmosphere.

(And remember, Medusa was mortal, but her two sisters, equally dangerous, were immortal. What if they're still out there somewhere . . .?)

That was his point of view, too. His best friend suffocated to death due to a chest wound. Oddly, since he had a chest wound he could not be evacuated by air and was sent to a hospital ship. They were so overwhelmed they put on top of some filing cabinets. A day later they realized he was an officer and sent him to surgery. Iwo was a horror show.

Israeli artist Zoya Cherkassky was in New York last week to discuss her "7 October 2023" exhibition at the Jewish Museum.

The pro-Hamas mob arrived to protest and call Zoya's work "imperial propaganda" that serves to "manufacture consent for genocide."

Zoya, who was sitting on the stage and holding the microphone, kept her response brief. "Fuck you"

BIDEN AND THE UN ARE BEHIND THE BORDER DISASTER: Panama’s former SENAFRONT Director points to evidence UN policies and the activities of dozens of U.S.-based and international Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) prompted the flood of illegal immigrants coming to the U.S., beginning in 2016.

Surprised? These NGOs need to be named, shamed, and sued.

The overwhelming majority of Palestinians are not Hamas. And Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people.

In fact, they're also suffering as a result of Hamas' terrorism. We need to be clear-eyed about that reality.

Marina Medvin @MarinaMedvin 13h
After October 7, over 75% of Palestinians polled said they support Hamas and the October 7 attack on Israel.

Two months into the war, 72% of Palestinians said they still support the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7.

Teamsters Union Donates To RNC For First Time In Decades After Meeting With Trump

Can't tell if that means the meeting with Trump went well or went poorly. Is there a 'good' RNC?
Posted by: t-bird at February 23, 2024 10:30 AM (wKqZM)

Trump has had strong union support for a while. If the Republicans were smart (lol) they would refashion themselves as the party of the working class. Tax cuts for the working man! Then hammer the Democrats as being the party of the gentry and monied classes.

That strategy kept the Democrats in charge for freakin' decades.

This is a 120+ year plan that we're just seeing modern examples of.

There was a House investigator in the 50s who discovered the dangers of large non-profits and how they were pushing the US into WWI back in the early 1900s.

They are our government. Have been for a long time.

Does that take into account the later shift from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in British North America? That happened in the 1750s.

Hamas doesn't represent the people? Huh. They were the ruling party. Just how many Gazans are rising up against Hamas? 0.

As long as those people insist on the total annihilation of Israel, I will insist that there are zero innocent people who call themselves palestinians.

Assuming Biden really believes this, then it makes sense to let the Israeli's destroy Hamas to benefit the poor, poor arabs suffering under their cruel rule. A ceasefire doesn't make sense.
