They would then go on to beat Finland and capture the gold. It was 44 years ago, I didn't know squat about hockey, but I remember how exciting it was. Looking back, it's easy to see that this was the catalyst for the resurgence of America after the malaise of Carter's term. We beat the Reds in hockey, Carter was defeated, the hostages came home and Ronald Reagan proceed to make America great again. All these years later I still tear up when I see a clip of the famous game winning call (Psst! There's one under the fold). Do we believe in miracles? OTD 44 years ago, we did.

I've seen it posted on several forums, and nobody seems to know what it means. Maybe the Horde can figure it out. However, I concede it is undeniably true that homeschooled students—like any students or human beings, for that matter—can be propagandized by any type of ideology: right, left, center, or otherwise. I know of no person or teaching materials that are truly unbiased because to be so would entail having no opinions and providing all available information on a subject without any explanations. So, every teacher, parent, textbook, online course, or forum post is, by nature, biased in some way. Of course, this fact also means that government school or private school students are also susceptible to and recipients of propaganda daily. Moreover, such propaganda is inculcated far more effectively and efficiently via government schools that continue to churn out obedient and often intellectually incurious citizens who rarely question the morality or composition of the state that rules over them. This assertion should be self-evident through obedience to mask mandates, pledges of allegiance to flags, continued support for America’s overseas “defense” campaigns, and the strong contention among many citizens that democracy and voting are salubrious for all of us.And that's the real reason the left is so against home schooled kids: These are kids who they don't get to indoctrinate themselves with their poisonous ideology.

All the rules, when I entered the market, favored the employer and the employees with tenure - regardless of Union status. You can't get the labor you want at the price you prefer ? Again, cry me a river.
Supply and demand should work both ways. For many, many decades, it simply did not.

I watched it in a bar in San Juan with a buddy of mine and a bar full of people who had never seen a rink let alone a game of hockey. We all cheered like maniacs. One of the best sporting memories of my life.

This was a bunch of college kids thrown together in a couple months taking on the professional Soviet team that played together for years and was more dominant in its game than on a worldwide basis than even the great Yankees teams. They weren't just unbeatable on ice, they won games before the other team even took the ice.
It would be like you gender confused waking up one day and understanding the difference between men and women overnight. It was that shocking.
It has nothing to do with scary boomers that make you wet yourself constantly. It transcended sport. I am not surprised you can't understand it.

Seriously. How can something that's just a sport - hockey, in this case - transcend what it is ? I get it, for many like you, you get meaning from these things that you don't participate in yet "experience" all the same.
But to me, that's like being "moved" by a painting. To me, it's not different than all the effort by today's Zs and Millennials to also "feel" something by events that they don't participate in.
To me ? Some folks skated around, played a game. A team won. A team lost.

There's logic behind that. If you get laid off but still work even a day or so, you might sabotage your employer. OTOH if you resign it helps the business find a replacement if you have to work 2 weeks.

I've been tinkering with this for the last three years or so using one of the "Flame King" style torches (there are dozens of knockoffs, but they're all mostly the same).
It has been my experience that - similar to spraying - you want to wait until the weeds are showing themselves pretty well before you begin the fun. If you start too early you just end up doing it again soon after.
It's great for things like driveways, though.

Yea, it's pretty intense. Now though it's super expensive to have kids in hockey. The equipment, but mostly paying for ice time. Some kids in 4th grade are practicing at 8:00 p.m because that's the only time they can get in. It's kind of out of hand. Hell we would simply make a rink on the lake. One of the dads had a tractor and he'd come out and plow the rink. Or we'd go to the rec center and skate there. OUTSIDE. Made us better skaters and toughened us up .

There's a narrower window and less lakes here, but we do have ponds that freeze over. We've had a warm winter, which means that the SiL's nephew had to save my nephew from cracking ice when they visited for Christmas. He's also a lifeguard, but thankfully didn't have to use those skills.

It was always hairy early in the year. It was cool if we'd get a cold snap for a week or so with no snow and the lake was totally ice. We'd literally skate all over the lake. Just look out for ice fishing holes.

Yep. It's the whole slippery slope thing that doesn't exist. Society accepts the small stuff, and then something has to take its place. Then that small stuff becomes accepted, so the next thing up - that wasn't all that small a few years ago - has to take its place. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Eventually systems change or completely break down. Like I said, if it was a corner hardware store or the like and we had a good relationship then yeah, I'd want to do whatever I could to keep them from getting in a bind. If it's Walmart or Apple or some other big company? They'd be lucky if I called to tell them I wasn't coming in.

Yea, it's pretty intense. Now though it's super expensive to have kids in hockey. The equipment, but mostly paying for ice time.
Youth hockey (called "junior hockey" in my home town) was a great leveler of.economic circumstances in the 60s and 70s. Team pictures from that time show kids with well-to-do parents playing on the same team as kids whose parents werre barely scraping by. The sport simply wasn't expensive enough to restrict it to only those better off financially. That, and our city's parks and recreation department flooded flat areas in its parks and behind public schools to create nearly a dozen outdoor ice rinks that they kept plowed and re-iced throughout the winter months. Nearly every kid skated. Nearly every kid who wanted to played hockey in pickup games on the outdoor ice sheets. I feel sorry that kids back home today are not being afforded those opportunities.

I don't know. . . I think it's probably best to approach leaving your employer on a case by case basis.
After a number of discussions with the higher ups, I gave about a 9 month notice. If I kept to our agreed terms, I'd leave with a sizable severance package, accumulated vacation cashed out, etc. I did have to agree to not join two specific class action suits. No biggie for me. It worked out for everyone.
My point is, approach it thoughtfully and, many times you can work a deal that makes everyone happy.

I was 14-15 when I saw my first live hockey game, a AAA professional one with a team brand new to Norfolk, a Detroit farm team. Thing I remember was reading the game program player profiles, home and away, and the players coming from places like Moose Jaw and Saskatoon, with hardly any Americans. IIRC, the 5 Sutter brothers came from farm country out in Western Canada. Hockey players, on the teams I saw back then, were populated with just regular Canadians from all backgrounds. One had left the RCMP to try out professionally, getting as high as AAA. I really loved the sound of hockey live, back in the day when thunderous checks into the corner boards were the norm. Very few helmets, either.

Well, I was just watching. But load F-droid, then Aurora, then get the Brave download. F-droid gets you into Aurora, which is an anonymizer that accesses Google Play without giving up your data, and then Aurora lest you get the install apk from the gurgle.

The Utube algorithm kept putting up videos of Breaking Bad and the Punisher. Bought the Punisher series a couple months ago. Now the algorithm puts up Breaking Bad and Jack Reacher. Not a single Punisher video. I hate the evil Google overlords and their sneeky little cubicle rat bastards.

What does the painting mean? From the point of view of GRASS, whether people shed tears on it, or pee on it, the grass still benefits, since it receives water (with minerals of tears or pee). To the grass, the water of "sadness" or water of "contempt" is still mercy/grace.
