Wholesome Hot Mic Moments Video of the Day

The bit about Kobo's parents being Calli and Kiara is just a joke, but Kobo not only plays into it on stream, she plays into it when she's not on stream.

Also, you can't convince me that Kobo isn't actually nine years old.

Disclaimer: Nine going on fifteen, but still nine.

Given your history?

Posted by: Divide by Zero at February 19, 2024 05:07 AM (nIvob)

43 In my SF novel I needed a reason why robots would turn on their makers, and came up with the programming language. The designers use place names, proper names, and locations as mnemonic 'placeholders' and inadvertently provide ALL their androids with the building blocks for an internally embedded narrative myth. In effect, providing a cultural foundation for a social structure and identity; that, because it *seemed* random to the designers, is now illegible to them.
Only the androids can understand it because they're the beings that pieced it together into a coherent edifice. And naturally in the androids' myth, they're, well, not mindless slaves!
Whoops!

Posted by: Divide by Zero at February 19, 2024 05:14 AM (nIvob)

46 Actually with my SF 'rogue androids' they're not rogue at all, or even rebelling exactly: they're just acting on their cultural myths and have some issues and/or questions about where exactly human beings fit into it. To them, it's a kind of negotiation, interaction or exploration of a relationship between different kinds.

The human beings view it as a malfunction or a glitch, the androids are simply fulfilling what they perceive as a destiny. Then the makers are faced with the potential of shutting down all their androids, on which they depend and on which they've built their civilization, or coming to some kind of terms with this New Thing that most certainly doesn't view itself as inferior.

This is also an undervalued benefit of traveling in places where you don't speak the language: you are not subjected to others' asinine conversations in public. As long as you are not all sensitive about them openly talking about you directly in front of you (it happens, all the time, everywhere I've ever been), it's glorious. 84 With cereal, we still sell both the bowl packs and the little boxes. Move a LOT of those.

For small serving stuff I admit to being baffled/offended by those tiny little water bottles, the 8 oz ones. What on Earth is the point of that.
Again, sell mountains of those in 12 and 24 packs. We have certain people who point-blank will not drink tap water. Some are rural and don't trust chemical leaching from the farm fields around them (understandable), some are Mexican and I think can't force themselves to drink from a perfectly safe tap (cultural imprinting), but some are just... crazy.
Our water is some of the best in the USA, no lie. The Midwest has a terrific aquifier.

98 Back in the early 2000's, theNavy came out with a 'reduction of plastics at sea' program and policy.

Even had regulations dictating stuff like how Supply Officers were required to minimize items being kept on ships that involved, or were stored in plastic.

Then they spent millions of dollars to develop and install the machines that you put all your plastic waste into, and then the device heated and compressed the plastic into these hockey pics about the size of a manhole cover, and they were stored onboard tilling able to offload either in port or another authorized hockey puck retention location.

Here's where I'm going with this.

The Navy supply system carried individual servings of cereal in plastic containers, that you peeled back the foil top, and there was your own personal single use plastic bowl of cereal.

And the Marines and crew onboard loved those things. To the tune of over a thousand individual single-use plastic bowls a day being eaten, and then melted down into hockey pucks.

All while those old fashioned individual cardboard boxes were available in the system.
But, nobody liked them.

110 I always miss Gun Threads but spent some time investigating how to transport firearms across Illinois, which has gone Full Retard. My immediate solution for their magazine limits (15 rounds or less) on a recent trip was to carry 2 revolvers and a fistful of speed loaders. I do not have any conforming magazines for the semi-automatic pistol I carry.
The restrictions on out-of-state CCW are naturally so Byzantine as to make it useless to even try: so many areas are prohibited it's barely worth it to carry in your car (which IS legal). Seems it's safe enough to have your pistol inside the car loaded as long as you stay on an Interstate and only stop for gas; but not anywhere else. Even getting out of your car to pump gas is a legal gray area.

117 Transporting prohibited weapons (AR-15s, the like) across Illinois is specifically legal.
Must be secured, inaccessible, locked up, and preferably broken down. So it's legal to transport the guns across Illinois in the usual way. However, it doesn't seem to apply to magazines, only the guns. So you can drive across IL with your prohibited-to-residents AR or AKS locked in the trunk, but not with original capacity magazines.
So you could get busted if discovered with a legally secured AR-15, not for the rifle but any 20- or 30-round magazine.

119 For whatever reason Illinois, like virulently anti-gun East Coast states, has a ton of firearms related manufacturing in its Southern part. Down past Springfield seems like every one-horse burg has a shooting range, gun shops everywhere, Olin Corporation runs a public range. Sparta has that crazy world-class complex. It's so schizoid.
Many IL more-rural counties have stated they're not enforcing any of the new laws, but I sure wouldn't trust that.
I think the cutouts for transport in IL are due to industry influence, and partly a scrap thrown to downstate pro-gun people.
So reports are that non-resident transport of actual firearms across IL is not that big of a deal; except for those magazine limits, which are a dangerous trap for the unwary.

Face it: the nature of the existence of droids is an example of Humans Are Bastards.
