The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Mr. Bradley previously testified that the reason he left the firm was totally and completely covered by privilege. When asked by the state, he went into a factual scenario, that, to my mind, I don’t see how it related to privilege at all. And, so, now I’m left wondering if Mr. Bradley has been properly interpreting privilege this entire time.” Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee

Quote II

“We expect to close roughly 15-20 stores per year in the near term," Best Buy Chief executive office Corie Barry

Quote III

“When something this big happens, people act certain ways and if there’s issues with somebody to begin with, this can cause it to be even worse. And then it all just kind of blows up.” Co-owner Jayme Cousins

Quote IV

"Every time I look at the news, there's another commitment to help foreign countries. We probably helped Ukraine, probably $100 billion or so, and we can't get debt relief for American citizens in this country," John Boyd, Jr., president of the National Black Farmers Association

Everyone with an ounce of common sense knew that former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin was right. Socialized medicine and active death panels.

Explosive leaked documents have emerged that show medical staff were ordered to euthanize patients who had been admitted to hospital and tested positive for COVID-19.

The official documents were leaked from the UK’s state-funded National Health Service (NHS).

The docs further confirm the previous reporting from Slay News that revealed patients were euthanized in order to boost the numbers for “Covid deaths.”

As Slay News reported, smoking gun evidence revealed that tens of thousands of elderly people were murdered to boost the mortality rates.

The data produced for the report indicated that people were being euthanized using a fatal injection of Midazolam.

Somebody we all know and detest must be running low on grifter funding. Liz Cheney threatens us she might run against President Trump.

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) hasn’t ruled out running for president this year, vowing she will do whatever is necessary to stop former President Donald Trump.

Cheney, who was once the chairwoman of the Republican Conference, is one of Trump’s fiercest detractors. While she lost a primary challenge in 2022 to a pro-Trump candidate, she has remained a prominent political figure and has left her options open to future campaigns.

Protestors Deliver 300 Pounds of Poop to Nancy Pelosi's House

San Francisco's infamous poop map got a massive update last week after pro-Palestinian protesters dumped 300 pounds of cow manure outside Nancy Pelosi's home. After the large delivery of bovine excrement was placed, the group held signs reading "NANCY PELOSI ENOUGH WITH THIS S—T" and "STOP ARMING ISRAEL. ARMS EMBARGO NOW."

OK old has been rocker. You can show dead bodies of gun shot victims. We can show photos of aborted fetuses babies. He probably won't go for that.

There's a particularly twisted subset of gun control fans who firmly believe that if Americans are only exposed to the sight of murder victims after they've been shot and killed, they'll support every one of the anti-2A infringements the gun control lobby wants to shove down our throats. I've always liked John Mellencamp's music, whether he was going by Johnny Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, or just plain old John Mellencamp, so it's disappointing to see that he's among those who are convinced that exploiting dead children is a price worth paying, so long as it leads to gun bans that will be ignored by the very people who've robbed those children of their future.

I live in a small township. About 1650 residents. I bet every household has at least 2 guns conservatively. That puts about 3300 guns in the hands of every resident. How many murders did we have last year? The year before? The past decade? None, zero, zilch, nadda. People kill people. Some use guns, some use knives, some use blunt force trauma.

I think there is more to this story than meets the eye. Genius Award Winner(s)

T. PETERSBURG, Fla. (TND) — The rideshare driver who picked up Jason Robert Hagerty last Saturday and drove him home in Florida had no idea what he was in for, but he recorded it on his cellphone.

According to the arrest report, Hagerty “sat in the front passenger seat of the victim’s vehicle" on his way home.

That's when, the report said, “The defendant displayed and exposed his [body part] and then began to masturbate the duration of the ride until arriving at his residence in [St. Petersburg].
Imagine being the driver.

The victim speaks no English,” the report said, “and was unable to tell the defendant to stop.

ECU Pirates' Parker Byrd Becomes First Player In Division 1 History To Play With Prosthetic Leg

A true story of heart and determination played out on the baseball field for East Carolina on Friday night, with Parker Byrd making his first ever collegiate start. But this was more than just any debut, as Byrd became the first ever player in Division 1 history to compete with a prosthetic leg.

In front of a sold-out crowd, Parker Byrd returned to competitive baseball for the first time since a boating accident led to the sophomore having his leg amputated in the summer of 2022. After 23 surgeries, Byrd was cleared to compete again in the sport he loves.

15 Well, the hilarious comment of the day was Governor Kathy Hochul:

Kathy Hochul tells NY businesses not to fear about Trump verdict: "Nothing to worry about"

It's dawned on every real estate developer in New York that they are equally guilty of the "crimes" that Trump was found guilty of, and that you can borrow money from the banks, repay it in full, and years later have the State come after you for "fraud" and end up having to pay tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

I'm not sure if "we're only going to do it to Trump" flies as a defense, Kathy.

This came out early on. Midazolam is commonly used in "end of life" scenarios. I think the Branch Covidians claimed it was just to calm people down.

So, not only were at least 50% of the COVID deaths actually death with, not from, COVID, likely a majority of the remaining deaths were caused by the treatment choices again not actually COVID.

Its in the ride share app translated into Spanish or whatever.

I've had Chinese and Hispanic drivers that obviously spoke little to no English.

I also had one Brazilian guy once who had just learned English and was very, very interested in trying it out with me. Which...was fine I'm a pretty social person, but his speaking in English was obviously taking away from his focus on the road...

To demonstrate the value of physical shopping, some Best Buy stores are being turned into so-called Experience Stores. At these locations, customers will enjoy an "immersive and inspirational" shopping experience as they try out new tech with the help of Best Buy experts.

This is also called circling the drain. This has been tired before and all it accomplishes is it improves your pre-online ordering experience.

They knew they were killing the patients - same with putting them on vents.

So there are only a few possible answers:

1) They thought they needed to free up more resources for all the coming, more important COVID patients

2) They wanted to save money

3) They wanted to kill undesirables

4) They wanted to stir up fear

Any answer is horrible. And no they will never be forced to answer which it really was.

Rogan asks him about the government's ever more insistent claims UFOs are extraterrestrial in origin and menacing our air space.

And Weinstein's response is interesting. He says he tried to identify who the serious physicists (his own specialty) working on this from the government's side of things are and...there aren't any.

So either the government is lying and intentionally misleading people into thinking there is a problem where this is not one or the government is pathologically incompetent.

Side effects can include a decrease in efforts to breathe, low blood pressure, and sleepiness.

In the final stages of end-of-life care, midazolam is routinely used at low doses via subcutaneous injection to help with agitation, restlessness or anxiety in the last hours or days of life

Midazolam is known to cause respiratory depression. In healthy humans, 0.15 mg/kg of midazolam may cause respiratory depression, which is postulated to be a central nervous system (CNS) effect

I suppose that one could devise a scenario wherein a Covid-infected biker got into a coughing fit at 70 MPH, left the road, and hit a tree, and died as a result. Even so, the covid didn't kill him. The proximate cause of death was bashing his brains out on tree trunk, and the underlying cause was engaging in a risky activity while not medically fit to do so.

The Japanese have two phonetic alphabets (technically syllabaries) that they can use to spell out new words that don't make sense in Chinese/kanji pictograms. Or to spell out foreign words.

The Chinese just spell foreign words with common Chinese characters that sound the same.

Thus the apocryphal story that Coke was called "bite the wax tadpole," since there are 4 characters pronounced ko-ka-ko-la that would literally mean that.

The "official" Chinese name for Coke is now written with the 4 characters "allow-mouth-allow-joy," so something like "let your mouth rejoice."

196 Is it that much more difficult than Japanese or did the Japanese adopt a different communication system for technical application?

We grow up in the West. Go to South America, Canada, or Europe. Even though the words sound different ? The alphabet is all generally the same, with a few characters here and there. And it all comes from Latin. It's all the same enough where you can fake it, at a child level, once you figure it out.

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and such don't even use the same characters or structure as us, or each other. Completely foreign to ourselves and each other. And they think differently as a result, both to us and each other.

Yes, Japanese dictionaries are sorted in "gojuon" order. That's literally "50 sounds," because the Japanese syllables can be arranged in a 5-vowels-by-10-consonants grid.

But there are 5 holes in the grid where a consonant/vowel pair doesn't exist: there's a "Y" row and an "I" column, but there's no "yi" character, for example. And there's an "N" character, without a vowel, at the end, so there are really 46 sounds.

But words never start with that last "N" character, so a Japanese dictionary has 45 sections. Easier than the 214 in Chinese, at least.

Since the perps are juveniles, their names cannot be legally published. I'd like to seem some folks attend the hearings for these pukes, where I expect the names have to be uttered in court, and take notes, and then flood the area with anonymous flyers with the perps' names and photos, and addresses.

292 With China and technological development, it depends on what period of Chinese history you're talking about. Qing Dynasty onwards, there's definitely a technological slump. But before that? Chinese technological prowess was pretty impressive - as in multiple volumes required by Western historians to document all of it.

Their standard of construction and design was different from a lot of their East Asian counterparts. Take swords, for example. They didn't produce anything as sexy from a design point of view as a katana, but they weren't looking to craft blades for a military elite who were the only ones able to ignore the Japanese social dictum that "the nail that stands up will be hammered down." They were turning out weapons for armies numbering in the thousands, and that consideration outweighed other concerns.

Ming Dynasty ship construction is still impressive today (just look at the voyages of Zheng He, for example), and their ability to adapt and improvise the numerous potentials of gunpowder far outpaced anything in the world at that time.

Posted by: This Space Left Intentionally Blank at February 19, 2024 01:51 AM (wgbya)

293 Then there's the compass, the first metal detector, a workable seismic tremor detector, first wood-block printing, first city directories ... the list could go on and on quite literally. The real intriguing question in re Chinese science, engineering, and technology is: why the slump? It becomes really apparent by the time of the Qing Dynasty, but the earliest indications show up in the sixteenth century. First contact with the West? Maybe, but Sinologists are still researching and debating both within and without the Middle Kingdom.

I agree (with some reservations), but the intriguing question is why? How does a nation that led the world in innovation and technology for centuries lose its stride so dramatically? It predates Mao's depredations, and isolationist/xenophobic tendencies don't quite offer a solid enough answer. The Japanese were strict in their determination to keep foreign influences out, but when Commodore Perry showed up in 1853 and offered a demonstration of how far they were lagging behind, it only took them roughly three decades to make up the lost ground. China had even more incentive to do the same much earlier, but somehow couldn't do it, even after they had Japan as a template to follow. It's one of those questions that Sinologists have been debating since the late nineteenth century, and they're no more closer to answering it now than then.

307 I said it in 2005 and I will say it again--they didn't have to kill Wash.

Gratuitous, that's what it was. He was a leaf on the wind, and you can't kill that, dammit.

Now I will have to not watch Serenity again for 20 years or so.

That's Joss Whedon through and through - if he can kill a character you care about, he'll do it. Wash, Jenny Calendar, Kendra, Joyce Summers, Tara, Cordelia, all of them casually done away with. He's got that George R.R. Martin sadism, just on a smaller scale.

310 Morning, insomaniacals,

I slept almost enough last night. After the inevitable wakeup call for the head, I came back and -- this may be crucial -- *turned on my right side* instead of my left. The next thing I knew my watch read 2:30 a.m., just ahead of the alarm. Over my 29+ years, I've almost always gone to sleep on my left side. Oh, around 2012-2013 I did sleep on the right because of a neck and shoulder pain issue, but then I went back to the old way. Maybe this is One Weird Trick to Help Me Sleep?

Anyway: 'Tis Monday. Grrrr.

313 I know I’m a bit late to the ONT party, as usual. A Disqus commenter I follow has told a story several times about his daughter visiting in England. She had a T1 diabetes complication, and was admitted to a local hospital, supposedly new and high quality.

Because female wards were full, she shared a room with an elderly man whose medical warranty apparently expired. During the night, she observed hospital staff forcibly euthanizing him. The next morning, the bed was empty. She checked out AMA and never went near any other NHS healthcare.
