He Gets Us I don't know if you've seen the Super Bowl “He Gets Us” ad, but it was claptrap. A bunch of progressive tropes from the left wing of “Christianity”. The shore you can see under bridge is my neighborhood. Quonset Point is a little north on the other side of the bay. We watch them tow sub parts all the time.
The do some of the sub-assembly work at Quonset and then tow the assembly to Groton, Ct for final assembly. The don't seem to have any qualms about the pieces being towed but Groton is pretty off limits.

There are only about 50 Republicans in the house that want to fix the problems that have been vexing us.
There are at least 40 Republicans that will not vote for any budget or CR that does not have at least a 50B increase in military spending.

One of my favorite, Goku-in-a-nutshell moments is from early DragonBall. 11-year-old Goku is in a bar the night before a tournament starts, a fight breaks out among participants, one of them gets sent crashing through tables and lands in front of Goku, and what does he do?

Big deal in India. I ran across an Indian-made war movie about this naval battle. The film was God-awful, & yes, I do need to get a life.
The Indian sub commander was a Sikh, & he was charged with disobeying his orders (or exceeding his authority, or something). His feat of arms was never properly recognized by the Indian Navy or govt, but he became a popular hero nonetheless.

Unfortunately, they only have control of one or two of those chokepoints. They have to, for instance, keep friendly allied governments in the various Stans to block Turkey or Pakistan/India. They want Ukraine controlled, either by themselves or by allies because it blocks the southwest entry point.
If we had invited Russia into NATO when the USSR fell, they might well not worry about the western facing chokepoints.

Had a Dr's appt, with Mr Moki driving. We passed a used bookstore and he asked if i felt like going in. Uh, yeah. Looking through the cookbooks, I found a copy of my mother's Betty Crocker Picture cookbook, circa 1950. I learned how to cook with that book, and my sister threw it away when my mom died. Started crying when I saw the original owner left handwritten recipes inside, pinned with straight pins or paper clips. Mr Moki grabbed it from me and bought it straight away. Best Valentine's ever

You lit the linguistic nerd beacon... Old English used to have a suffix (-jan) that was added to a noun or strong verb to indicate agency. Over time, the suffix got absorbed into the main verb and mutated the first vowel. In the case of lie/lay, one took the intransitive verb (licgan = to lie), looked at the first person singular (laeg), and added -jan (laegjan), and eventually it turned into lecgan (to lay).
So the short answer is, when you lay something down somewhere, you make it lie there. And there it lies until you pick it up again.

I never felt a bit claustrophobic, aboard a sub.

The adjective for the planet Venus should be "Venerean", but that sounds too much like "venereal", so they didn't want to use that. Going with the Greek, the name would be "Aphrodite" and the adjective would then be "Aphrodisian" , but that sounds to much like "aphrodisiac", so that was out.

They didn't like "Venusian" because it's not properly derived from the classical language. It's just an English invention to sound like "Martian" (which is properly derived).
