And I have come to the conclusion that that country as presently constituted – as a multinational, imperial, Eurasian state – is bound to be a nuisance to the free world. Putin, too, has been reading Russian history, as we heard in his excruciating monologues to Tucker Carlson. He has concluded that his country has a sacred mission to intervene in neighbouring states. And, in thinking this way, Putin is tragically typical. Consider what Russia has been since Ivan the Terrible became its first tsar five centuries ago. Yes, it has had some superficial resemblances to free countries: courts of law, schools and, even, from time to time, advisory councils called dumas. But no independent institutions of a kind that a Westerner would recognise. I mean ultimately he's right, but how would it be accomplished? We don't have the ability to financially bankrupt them the way Reagan did, and I'm sure as hell not going to send our soldiers to fight in Russia. He Gets Us I don't know if you've seen the Super Bowl “He Gets Us” ad, but it was claptrap. A bunch of progressive tropes from the left wing of “Christianity”. I'm reluctant to criticize anyone who is witnessing, but this isn't Christianity. The is new-age, feel good, Buddy Jesus pablum. This ad is so much better in every way.
Firstly, let’s address the elephant in the room: the closure of the ministry of women, gender, and diversity. Contrary to the apocalyptic visions painted by the article, this move isn’t a misogynistic step back into the dark ages. It’s a pragmatic, libertarian approach to governance. Why maintain a bloated bureaucracy when the same goals can be pursued more efficiently? Cutting down on governmental overreach isn’t attacking social justice; it’s streamlining the process to achieve it. Regarding the contentious issue of abortion, it’s crucial to remember that being pro-life is not an assault on women’s rights. It’s about protecting the rights of all humans, born and unborn. Milei’s stance is a bold move in a world that often forgets the value of every human life. It’s not about controlling women; it’s about acknowledging and respecting the sanctity of life at all stages. The article ties Milei’s actions to a supposed attack on feminism. But let’s be real – feminism isn’t a fragile flower that wilts at the slightest challenge. True feminism is robust, capable of thriving without the crutch of government support. The closure of a government ministry doesn’t silence the voices of millions of women. Instead, it challenges feminism to evolve, to find new, innovative ways to promote gender equality. Government isn’t a support system for women with daddy issues, it’s an organization authorized for the use of force to protect natural rights. Do I need to explain what rights are? Man, this Milei guy really angers the left, doesn't he? ![]() Stingray Jesus On The Way Aquarium baffled after stingray mysteriously gets pregnant despite there not being any males in their tanks Researchers in North Carolina say something’s fishy about the pregnancy of a stingray at the Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO in Hendersonville. The stingray, named Charlotte, is preggers, but the aquarium and outreach center doesn’t have any male stingrays, WRAL in Raleigh reported. Despondent staffers thought the swelling they started to see in September might be cancer before exams revealed the surprising cause, the dispatch saidDon't look at me. I've never even been to Hendersonville. Gives Bubblehead A New Meaning Someone Left a Hatch Open and Crippled India’s $2.9 Billion Submarine India’s first ballistic missile submarine was out of commission for ten months after someone neglected to properly close a hatch. The nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant was flooded with saltwater, necessitating nearly a year’s worth of repairs. The submarine is designed to function as a floating arsenal of nuclear weapons, guaranteeing a retaliatory strike in case of surprise attack. The incident was first reported by The Hindu. According to an Indian Navy source, a hatch was left open on the rear left side of the ship, allowing seawater to rush into the propulsion area while the Arihant was in harbor. Arihant was out of action for ten months as water was pumped out and pipes were cut out and replaced. Indian authorities likely felt that pipes exposed to corrosive seawater couldn't be trusted again, particularly pipes that carry pressurized water coolant to and from the ship’s 83 megawatt nuclear reactor. Failing pipes could not only endanger the ship’s crew but the entire submarine... and her nuclear weapons.Does the US still have any SSBNs deployed? Did they ever start building the Columbia class? This IS My Shocked Face Mail-In Ballot Fraud Study Finds Trump 'Almost Certainly' Won In 2020 The Heartland Institute study tried to gauge the probable impact that fraudulent mail-in ballots cast for both then-candidate Joe Biden and his opponent, President Donald Trump, would have had on the overall 2020 election results. The study was based on data obtained from a Heartland/Rasmussen survey in December that revealed that roughly one in five mail-in voters admitted to potentially fraudulent actions in the presidential election. After the researchers carried out additional analyses of the data, they concluded that mail-in ballot fraud “significantly” impacted the 2020 presidential election. They also found that, absent the huge expansion of mail-in ballots during the pandemic, which was often done without legislative approval, President Trump would most likely have won. “Had the 2020 election been conducted like every national election has been over the past two centuries, wherein the vast majority of voters cast ballots in-person rather than by mail, Donald Trump would have almost certainly been re-elected,” the report’s authors wrote. Is anybody surprised by this? Socialized Medicine Mother, 39, collapsed under her coat and died after seven-hour wait at crowded A&E The 39-year-old had been waiting for at least seven hours at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham before she was discovered unconscious under a coat. 'Shocked' staff at A&E have said they believe the long waiting times at the department may have contributed to her death. The woman first attended A&E in the late hours of January 19 complaining of a severe headache. She was triaged and observed three times by nurses and while her case was escalated, she was not seen by a doctor before being discovered. When the mother was eventually called to see a doctor, she failed to respond multiple times, so it was assumed that she had left due to the duration of her wait. She died on January 22, a few days after she had been transferred to intensive care.A&E stands for Accident & Emergency. It's the Brit equivalent of an ER. Coming Soon To An Intersection Near You Police Observation Devices (PODs): Their Capabilities and How to Spot Them We live in a time of unprecedented, near-ubiquitous surveillance. Almost everything we do or say is recorded, tracked, correlated, analyzed, categorized, and alerted on. Not just by devices in public spaces, but those we voluntarily place in our homes or on our person as well. Increasingly, law enforcement is using data from these devices to enforce an ever more Orwellian, dystopic rule. Today, I want to educate you on one such device, commonly known as the Police Observation Device, or POD. These devices can be found in growing numbers in urban, suburban, and even rural areas. Police Observation Devices (PODs) are specialized equipment used by law enforcement agencies for surveillance and monitoring purposes. These devices can range from simple CCTV cameras to more advanced systems with multiple sensors and analytical capabilities. Manufacturers include, but are not limited to: Axis Communications, Hikvision, Dahua Technology, Bosch Security Systems, Panasonic, Honeywell Security, FLIR Systems, Samsung Techwin (now part of Hanwha Group, Pelco, and others.Living in a police state is going to be so much fun! Step 1: Stop treating Russia as if it's 1984.
Step 2: Evaluate the new reality. Step 3: Remember and internalize that your government and media lie to you and likely have been for 40-60 years to varying degrees, and completely for about the last 20 years. Step 4: Re-evaluate the new reality. Step 5: Leave Russia (and Russians) the fuck alone. Step 6: Deal with actual existential threats, like the damn three letter agencies. Interestingly, I read recently on the Interwebz that Russia isn't really Russia. It is the enlarged Muscovite Kingdom with is mostly Tartar. Catherine the Great stole the name of Rus from White Russia and Ukraine, The Land of the Rus, to make Muscovy seem more like a part of Europe rather than Asia. She had all the maps and official documents changed.

We're all getting older; I turn 76 next month. I was thinking back to my younger days when I was a bouncer at a topless bar, 35 years ago. One of the things that I did as part of my job, was body guard feature dancers, men's magazine centerfolds and porn stars. One of adult actresses who worked at the club was Adult Hall of Fame actress Victoria Paris. Once she asked me to go with her while she did some shopping. Turned out we were both born in Montana. She had a degree in nutrition from Montana State. Like most of the adult actresses I met, she was politically a conservative. I liked her. She didn't smoke, drink, or do drugs, really took care of herself. Out of curiosity, today I looked her up on the IAFD, the Internet Adult Film Database, only to find that she died of cancer in 2021 at age 60. Like I said, time keeps passing for us all.

Lol. The only reason we don't qualify for that description is we're not Eurasian. Of course, our military presence spans both Europe and Asia. We're the good guys though because . . . well, we just are, darn it. Conservatives crack me up. We maintain our government is an active promoter of evil domestically, whether under Dem or GOP control, including fixing elections, but those same malefactors magically become the good guys when they leave the continental U.S. Maybe we should consider putting our own house in order before putting Russia in its place. But I guess the military industrial complex can't get fat that way, so intervening outside our borders endlessly it is. Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. The Ukrainian fortress city of Adveevka has effectively been surrounded, with perhaps 8000 troops trapped inside and no way out except fleeing on foot through muddy fields. 2. In the northeast corner, the Ukrainians fired across the border into Russia proper and killed several civilians, with no military impact other than making the Russians even meaner. 3. The Ukrainians managed to sink another Russian warship in the Black Sea, which reminds the Russians that they will have to eventually capture all the coastline, whether they want to or not. Russia's stated aim is defensible borders. They want to control the five or six bottlenecks that could block an invasion of their interior by a hostile power. They don't have the money or the population to support a standing army that can control ten thousand miles of borders.
Unfortunately, they only have control of one or two of those chokepoints. They have to, for instance, keep friendly allied governments in the various Stans to block Turkey or Pakistan/India. They want Ukraine controlled, either by themselves or by allies because it blocks the southwest entry point. If we had invited Russia into NATO when the USSR fell, they might well not worry about the western facing chokepoints. 20/20 hindsight. We passed a used bookstore and he asked if i felt like going in. Uh, yeah. Looking through the cookbooks, I found a copy of my mother's Betty Crocker Picture cookbook, circa 1950. I learned how to cook with that book, and my sister threw it away when my mom died. Watching any of the Dragon Ball series anime, one would know that Goku is a traditional hero, and is always on the side of good. He would be on the side of the Waffle House people, not trying to fight them. He's focused on defeating evil, in all of its forms. Supervillain Frieza, for example, is a nemesis, and could more accurately represent the totalitarian leftists than some freedom loving midwesterners at Waffle House.

You lit the linguistic nerd beacon... Old English used to have a suffix (-jan) that was added to a noun or strong verb to indicate agency. Over time, the suffix got absorbed into the main verb and mutated the first vowel. In the case of lie/lay, one took the intransitive verb (licgan = to lie), looked at the first person singular (laeg), and added -jan (laegjan), and eventually it turned into lecgan (to lay). So the short answer is, when you lay something down somewhere, you make it lie there. And there it lies until you pick it up again. (Evening, Horde. Long time, no delurk.) Posted by: Elisabeth G. I've been aboard various subs. I mean ACTIVE DUTY subs, not just Museum Ships.
Late WWII "Guppy" modified Fleet Boats. U.S.S. Gudgeon. Her "official cover" was "bottom mapping" the great Pacific Plains. Her surveys though, led to the find of the sunken Soviet Kilo boat, that the Glomar Explorer raised from the deep, keeping and recovering but a part of the whole. "Skipjack" class SBNs. The U.S.S. Snook and the U.S.S. Scamp. U.S.S. John Quincy Adams (2nd in the Geo. Wash. 1st gen. of Polaris boats.) So much roomier and CLEANER than the diesel-electric "fleet" subs. Know what, though? The belowdecks aroma was pretty much the same. Lube oil for machine parts is the primary funk in the air. And both types DO have diesel engines on board. The nuke boat's have 'em for emergency backup electricity, when surfaced, in case the reactor is offline. So, both types have a nose-full of diesel funk in the air, as well. Then, you get to the stinks of sweat, an impossibly confined wee galley feeding 150 ish crew, and the OZONE from countless thousands of electrical parts and components. Ohferpetessakes. People like Daniel Hannan need to get a couple things through their numb skulls.
1.) The West has long since lacked the strength to consider the forcible dissolution of a centuries old nation state that spans a sixth of the globe and possesses nuclear arms. This is insane nonsense. 2.) Even if it had these countries still had the actual physical ability to see that through, and even if it were a desirable outcome (I'm unconvinced of that), it has long since forfeited the moral authority to go around passing death sentences on nation states. The rest of the world looks at us and wishes we'd be dispensed with as a malicious nuisance. Some group of them is increasingly likely to smash up the US and UK, the more we keep talking like this. This whole line of "reasoning" is utterly ridiculous. Our intellectual classes sound like they've been huffing paint. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at February 16, 2024 01:50 AM (0FoWg) 407

>> VD = venereal disease,
Fun etymological facts. "Venereal" comes from "Venus", you know goddess of gettin' it on and stuff. The adjective for the planet Venus should be "Venerean", but that sounds too much like "venereal", so they didn't want to use that. Going with the Greek, the name would be "Aphrodite" and the adjective would then be "Aphrodisian" , but that sounds to much like "aphrodisiac", so that was out. They hit on "Cytherean", which is related to the birthplace of Venus/Aphrodite. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at February 16, 2024 01:57 AM (w6EFb) 409

Seemed to me Putin glossed over China and Siberia.... Prolly a topic of great focus in the Kremlin. Maybe stretching and the Voltaren stuff will work it out a bit.
