A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee. 'What's the matter, dear' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night. The husband looks up from his coffee, 'It's the 20th Anniversary of the day we met.' She can't believe he has remembered and starts to tear up. The husband continues, 'Do you remember 20 years ago when we started dating, I was 18 and you were only 16,' he says solemnly. Once again, the wife is touched to tears. 'Yes, I do' she replies. The husband pauses The words were not coming easily. 'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car' 'Yes, I remember' said the wife, lowering herself into the chair beside him. The husband continued. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to prison for 20 years' 'I remember that, too' she replied softly. He wiped another tear from his cheek and said "I would have gotten out today." Two Genius Award Winners this evening Genius Numero Uno. I'm watching Williamson interview Rikki Schlott. She's a young woman that wrote a book on cancel culture with Greg Lukianoff.
And she mentions in passing that cancel culture doesn't work as in doesn't change minds. Williamson follows up asking, well if it doesn't work why do people engage in it. Schlott answers that they just don't understand that cancelling people doesn't change opinions and... She doesn't get it. She wrote a book on it. She was cancelled and dropped out of college. And she still doesn't really get it. Leftists don't want to change your mind when they cancel you. They don't care all that much what you think. They want you to shut up. This isn't about convincing this is about power. And it DOES work. At another point she mentioned that she had a large number of classmates that she thought were a-political that reached out to her to say they admired her. So cancellation got rid of her AND it shut up her classmates. This is exactly what the left wants. Posted by: 18-1 at February 14, 2024 10:22 PM (ibTVg) 70

The lead off joke reminds me of a good friend who has a contentious relationship with his wife. More than once I have heard him say, "You know, if I had killed her, I'd be getting out of prison right about now." Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at February 14, 2024 10:32 PM (xG4kz) At my wife's funeral, I referred to arguments as "Intense Emotional Discussions". Only afterwards did I realize the initials are IED. Came up in my eulogy, because, given our health seemed to track negative at the same time (same week found out she had cancer and I had kidney disease. Same year I started dialysis, her cancer went metastatic). She would say she wanted to die first, as she didn't want to go through the grief of my passing. I said, the hell, I want to die first, why should I have to go through the grief of HER passing. Well, she won the argument. But she didn't take into account, that since she won the argument, in the eulogy I would have the last word. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at February 14, 2024 10:35 PM (ynpvh) 94

One in your name as primary, the other with spouse as primary due to just this possibility. I've really been enjoying these interviews Chris Williamson does.
He finds interesting people who are knowledgeable about interesting topics and he lets them talk. Its not rocket science but its something the FNM just doesn't do. You either get an "interviewer" bating and talking over interesting people or an "interviewer" fellating some hack. And I give the guy a lot of credit in that his background really didn't seem to prepare him for this...he was a nightclub promoter and on some stupid reality TV show...so he found a niche and really grabbed hold of it by...being good at it. Ever since dobbs decision on abortion in 2022 the voters have been giving rethugliKKKans a political post natal abortion at the polls. 2022, 2023 and now 2024. Voters who consider Biden a senile corrupt old fool still have to vote the rethugs out over abortion. The 2015 Ford Transit 350, has the finest Cruise Control modules ever fitted to a vehicle, period.
Works like a HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) on a jet fighter. Left thumb works the button/levers on top of the module. On/Off/Set Left fingers reach under the module to a "three finger wide" paddle, and you pull up once to "pause" the cruise, and pull up again to "resume" the cruise. It can be done so very smoothly that the passengers don't even sense the changes. Oh, and the thumb can also add/reduce speed, one MPH at a time, or watch the screen, add five or six, and it'll smoothly attain that speed. Big advantage. Saves much leg fatigue on a multi-hundred mile day. AND, lets your eyes stay off the gauges more, and be up and looking out the glass and into the mirrors MUCH more. The speedometer is a lousy tool for Situational Awareness. p.s. one doesn't USE the cruise in stop n' go traffic, duh! but, it's the thing for when the lanes are rolling smoothly. My new to me 2019 low mileage car has cloth seats, not power ones and certainly not heated, basic AM/FM radio and not many amenities other than a backup camera that I do appreciate. I am embracing the lack of technology in this car, it is a tank, and if I take good care of it, it will last me a long time.

LOL, Galveston Jim!
Iran, oops, I mean the Houthi Zaydi Shiites in north Yemen, have targeted Eilat. In November an IDF F-35 downed a cruise missile the Iranian client fired. A bit earlier, Israel's Arrow defense system intercepted a ballistic missile "outside the atmosphere" for the first time. Lately, tho', I haven't heard about much here. Braenyard, if you are talking to me, I most certainly did get a manufacturer's extended warranty. I may actually try and get a six CD changer in this one as a pure indulgence for myself but car stereo shops seem to have gone the way of Blockbuster, a vanished technology. I'll have to ask AOP how easily doable this is for a professional, that of course would not be me.

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at February 15, 2024 01:48 AM (Sgq8y) Debby, I have these little Dual car stereos in four vehicles now, and will probably buy a couple more. Why not? They cost only 25 bucks! Sound quality is OK, and they can play music off your phone via bluetooth. Also have a decent AM-FM tuner, and a USB port, so you can plug in a thumb drive loaded with mp3's and play those. Will drive four speakers, no problem. http://tinyurl.com/356vswkn Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 15, 2024 02:05 AM (tkR6S) 346
That extended warranty will take the out the jitters for the next four years. (I don't trust mechanics, in general) I read that they are discontinuing the CD. That Best Buy isn't going to sell them any more. I think that they are going to radio systems that accept thumb drives for your audio collection.

Posted by: Shai in Eilat at February 15, 2024 01:57 AM (4NS0o) Sell "safari" packages to American Adventurers. IDF Guides, of course. Tags and licenses to be per a calculated table, of course. But, with a "Confirmed" to a Senior Leader, or On The List candidate, or +1,000 yd. "confirmed" on ANY armed pali-peacefian, well, then the cost of the "safari" is refunded in full. Can't give a Safarian a medal, of course. But a frameable and well documented certificate, will do. Jim Sun New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at February 15, 2024 02:09 AM (e6UQI) 348
Back in 1970, I figured if I lived this long, I'd be reading my newspaper and checking the news from Goddard Station and Luna City. Instead, I have a 10 inch television sitting on my lap and I'm watching a tiny robot lander headed out to hopefully not crash into Luna's South Pole. Sigh.

When I drove down here from Alberta, I had ONE thumb drive in the port, and it lasted the whole trip without going into repeat. Better than 20 hours of music. Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at February 15, 2024 02:14 AM (YRK4R) I'd like to find a decent 8-track player for the hotrod Ford I am building. Retro bling! I thought I had one, took it down from the shelf, and oops! It is an add-on for certain models of GM car radios equipped to accept it. Probably has value to some of the GM collectors out there. And pretty much useless as a stand-alone. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 15, 2024 02:19 AM (tkR6S) 354

Braenyard and AOP, I have been reluctant to "pair" my phone with the car, but I would consider enabling Bluetooth to access my digital music. AOP, I would love 20+ hours of music to listen to, I will look into that, it looks like a nice little unit....now to find someone local to install it.

Yes, the '03 Park Avenue had both cassette and CD players; the '11 Regal had a CD and flash drive ports, as did the '15 BMW and the current '16 Buick. But the CD slot seems like an afterthought. The Nissan KickS I rented to drive to St. Louis was so disliked by me (a substitute for the sedan I booked, they didn't have one, so... BEHOLD the KickS) the staff gave me a voucher for 10% off my next rental.
My intown rental place is the only one, anyone else I have to arrange from 20 miles away. It's tiny with maybe 20 cars, usually no more than 10, so they never have what you actually order (once got substituted a 3/4 ton van!!) but it's 4 blocks away and the staff is great. But that KickS was just awful for a long-ish trip. Posted by: LenNeal at February 15, 2024 04:11 AM (9yXr+) 371
The KickS seemed really familiar so I looked it up: yep, also known as the Dacia Duster, which are all over in E. Europe as cheap, entry-level CUVs.
The big issue there was incredible GLARE. The hood has 'protuberances' on it that shine reflected spots of dazzling sunlight directly into your eyes; The windshield did not have a strip of tint on the top; the dashboard is slick and shiny; and you sit rather far forward, your face nearly at the line of where the top of the windshield meets the roof. The result is the worst glare of any vehicle I've ever been in, in my whole life. In-town it was great: nimble, quick, good visibility, but for a long-ish trip? Sucked balls.
