When You Give a Gun a Monkey Video of the Day I've mentioned the game Palworld several times, mostly in the context of the usual leftwing lunatics being outraged and trying to organise a boycott, and the game going on to sell trillions of copies a day. It's been described as Pokemon with guns, and there are countless articles discussing the similarity of its "Pals" to Pokemon. Instead, let's take a look at the guns. Also, I didn't know gaming websites still made content like this. Full marks to GameSpot. Disclaimer: Whoa, okay, we just shot out animal friend at the enemy. Why did we do that? Because you can. Evening and morning to all the satellites in space and beyond! Yeah, it's Monday. But we're here and breathing, right? I'll take Monday's stresses over the alternative.
No Mawdi Grass parades in my work area tonight or tomorrow. Wednesday through Friday I'll have to take the different, and annoying, route home. But then comes a four- day weekend, and the Annual Insanity ("Festival! Festival!!!") will be over for another year. Has it ever occurred to you that we often pretend about things we know arent true? I mean as a society. We pretend that Santa Claus makes an annual trip around the world on Christmas Eve. We all pretend during Daylight Saving Time that the clock is showing the correct time, even though we know it's not. (The media is pretending that F. Joe is competent, but that's different.)
The first is for the kids, the second is for -- what? A fantasy that we're saving energy? Weird. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 05, 2024 04:12 AM (omVj0) 7

The guy from the Royal Armories has quite a successful collab with Gamespot to cover weapons from a variety of games. 'Experts discuss X in video games/movies' has become something of a small genre on ewetub. Historians looking at military accuracy. The Chieftain has done a few moves for tank realism. That kind of thing. Norse Mythology Expert reacts to God of War: Ragnarok! 'I've never seen Asgard depicted this way!'* Surprise, most games and movies are horrible as far as accuracy. *odd that brave does not recognize 'Asgard.' I had to look it up because I thought I spelled it wrong. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 05, 2024 04:30 AM (di6C2) 16

I tried out Enshrouded, a new game in early access in the survival/building genre. It is obviously a game meant to capitalize on the popularity of Valheim.
It (Enshrouded) lacks a bit of the uniqueness and narrative set up of Valheim, but makes some improvements over that game. Combat is better and they seemed to have solved one of the issues/quirks that Valheim had: that you could not dig an underground base. Something about the tech in Valheim meant that it would not allow you to dig compartments, you could only dig an open trench unless there was some sort of different material acting as a hat. It was odd. It is also not a procedurally generated world like Valheim but a crafted one (meaning everyone explores the same map, essentially.) The change of setting also means there is a lot more land as opposed to islands and sailing/boats is not(?) a thing. I like it so far. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 05, 2024 04:42 AM (di6C2) 22

Willowed from below:
I am tired of waking up at 3:00 . Tomorrow I am going to try a concoction I saw in a magazine- half a cup of tart cherry juice, half a cup of flavored seltzer, and some powdered magnesium. That's supposed to help one sleep. I have to get sleep tomorrow because I get to go to online court on Tuesday about the accident in which my car was sideswiped by a big landscaping truck by a guy who was very pleasant to me but didn't speak a lot of English. Did I mention I hate being without a car? I didn't want to have to pay $20.00 a day insurance for the rental car my insurance will provide "free" for me. My office shares a complex with a big defense contractor, who are always remodeling their offices and tossing stuff into a dumpster across the way. I've gotten some good stuff out of there. Right now there is a really old laptop that looks like it might be a Toshiba 3100 or something like that. I'm seriously considering fishing it out, if for nothing else to see if it still has the hard drive!
Also a filing cabinet, WITH the key in it, and a stack of 3-ring binders. Hm. I walked down but I might go home and get the car and go dumpster diving. Posted by: LenNeal at February 05, 2024 05:38 AM (43xH1) 39

Anne Wojcicki, 23andMe's chief executive, has led the cash-burning startup that has never turned a profit. After three rounds of layoffs and a subsidiary sale, a Wall Street Journal report said the company "could run out of cash by 2025." The inevitable fire sale of 23andMe has raised eyebrows among social media platform X users. A healthcare investor named Will Manidis asked this question on X: "Within months you will be able to buy genomics data from 14 million americans for +/- $200m?" He's been vaccinated and boosted and now, he's gotten Rona 3 times in the last 1-1/2 years and, I simply have a very hard believing it, each time he has instantly gone and gotten another booster... WHILE testing (+) for Rona. When there I tried to tell him he was destroying his body but nope, nope, nope. It's truly incredible. The takeover occurred after a TEA investigation last year found that two LJISD trustees and three central office administrators engaged “in acts of extortion, receiving kickbacks, bribery, theft, wire fraud, and money laundering,” all felonies, for which they were convicted nearly two years ago. Good to know I’m not the only one who thinks AI is largely hype.
- Ah, but like the stock market, what you think or do doesn't matter at all. Turns out it's an internal system that operates without any actual public/investor input at all. I'm betting the AI craze is similar. Big money pushes it, it becomes incorporated in crucial areas of science/government, and the people programming it are told what to make it lean towards. And then we just need to follow the AI. I've read a few bits on Taylor Swift as she's very interesting as a phenomenon. Guys who have dated her state, every one of them, that she has no personality and knows nothing about anything other than music and performing music, and her cats.
That's it. She is essentially a, what, a music-obsessed 13-year-old girl in an aging body. Her stockbroker/financial parents engineered her career from early on; her father owns a huge part of her catalog even after the dealings recently: the entity that 'bought her catalog out from under her' is in fact partially owned by her own father! When she crashes, and she will, it's going to be some ugly business and she might make Michael Jackson seem sane when the dust clears.
