Biden's Frenz in Iran Direct Their Proxy Armies to Kill At Least Three American Servicemen; Deathcount Likely to Grow

The Iranian terror mullahs are our Partners in Peace (TM). That's what Obama and Val Jarrett have decided. And the decrepit idiot Joe Biden is too weak to question them.

Three U.S. service members were killed and at least 25 others were injured in a drone attack on an outpost in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border, U.S. Central Command confirmed on Sunday.

But a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News the injury toll could rise to higher than 25 Americans. Most, if not all, of those injured and killed were Army soldiers based in northern Jordan near the Syrian border at a base known as Tower 22, which has been in support of the counter-ISIS mission for year, the official said.

Some of the 25-plus injured have been medically evacuated from the base, likely to Landstuhl in Germany, according to the official. It is not clear if they were hit while sleeping in the residential compound at the base. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is actively engaged in discussions taking place at the White House about how to respond.

...

The White House said President Biden was briefed Sunday morning by Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer about the attack, which marked a significant escalation as it's the first time U.S. troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the Israel-Hamas war began on Oct. 7.

Yes, but they have been frequently -- nigh constantly -- fired upon and targeted by Iran's proxy terror groups, and the US media has refused to cover this, as they know it makes Biden look both impotent and foolish, given that he still thinks Iran is his Partner in Peace (TM).

The media Just Wants to Inform the Public (TM).

...

Biden blasted "radical Iran-backed militant groups" in reacting to the attack.

"Today, America's heart is heavy. Last night, three U.S. service members were killed -- and many wounded -- during an unmanned aerial drone attack on our forces stationed in northeast Jordan near the Syria border," he said. "While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq."

Maybe your next care package to Iran should be $8 billion instead of $10 billion, just to show how peeved you are.

...

In the wake of the attack, Republicans condemned Biden's perceived inaction so far and some went further, accusing the president of appeasing Iran.

"Iran's proxies have launched over 150 attacks on US troops since October, as the Iran-backed Houthis attack global shipping, and Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas attack our ally Israel. The Biden administration's failed Middle East policy has destroyed our deterrence against adversaries in the Middle East. We need a major reset of our Middle East policy to protect our national security interests and restore deterrence," House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said.

Rudy W. Giuliani
@RudyGiuliani

Biden and Obama have helped to fund the Iran proxies who killed our troops.

Obama even sent them millions in cash.

What do we call that?

Holy s**t, looks like Biden's Dementia Stutter has gone viral:

Jim Hanson points out that Biden has given a lot (most?) of our precision guided munitions to Ukraine so our ability to strike Iran is compromised.

I'm curious to see what MAGA says about this. MAGA is made up of two different impulses, and sometimes the same people expressing contradictory impulses just hours apart:

First, there's the hardcore pacifist/isolationist impulse, which has hardened from a mere guidance to an absolute doctrine.

There there's the Make the Rubble Bounce contingent.

I do not know which of these doctrines is supposed to be the MAGA foreign policy. They are both advanced with vigor at different times. Trump, of course, will embrace one or the other at different times.

Trump surrogate Richard Grennell is blaming Biden for the attacks. But he's not blaming Biden for his weakness, but rather for his "war mongering:"

Richard Grenell
@RichardGrenell

2 Navy Seals and 3 US soldiers have been killed in the last week because Joe Biden gave Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief, credit and cash.

It's people like @RonFilipkowski who give Joe Biden aid and comfort in times like this by ignoring his disastrous war mongering.

I know Tucker Carlson is now claiming that unspecified "interests" in the US want a war with Iran that no one else does and will not stop until they get it.

But it sure seems to me like Iran wants a war, and that the impulse to "blame America first" is now becoming a major part of what is called "America First." (Or America Only, as some call it.) This is/was a common claim on the left, that all aggression by foreign regimes is/was always due to America pushing/manipulating the foreign attackers into it. And it now seems to be a major -- perhaps dominant -- strain of thought on the MAGA right as well.

I keep asking this: Are we now officially a pacifist party? We seem to have slouched into that position without much debate.

The chief difference I would suggest between the two is that the MAGA right typically makes a clear distinction between American troops as such, and the neocon globalists said to be using them as cannon fodder; whereas for the Left, there's always been a great deal of unfocused hatred for the military rank-and-file as well as the establishment.

47 I don't know that MAGA or whatever is all that inconsistent with foreign policy. "Don't start new wars" would preclude sending pallets of cash to Iran, who is regularly starting wars. That's the bedrock principle as far as I can tell. Since the Meat Puppet just can't quit sending money to his bosses, new wars will be everywhere and sending troops to "make the rubble bounce" will be like bailing the ocean with a spoon. You have to stop the idiot before anything can be fixed. Trump did not get major forces out of Iraq on Day 1 in 2016. His administration did seem to understand how to avoid Afghanistan 2022. You can have both No New Wars and deterrence if you do it correctly, and 2016-2020 foreign policy is a pretty good example as far as this (at the time) military wife is concerned.

61 I think the Iranian impulse right now is to continue poking the US until it gets more cash and/or the US disowns Israel over the Hamas ordeal.

IMO a proper response would be to sink the Iranian "cargo ship" that's been converted to a covert intelligence platform that the IRGC is using to assist the Houthi's in their attacks on maritime shipping. That's where this shit started.

Then, sink the rest of the Iranian Navy. We did it before. And it quieted down the mullahs for a while.

But, the bottom line here is that Iran sees a weak US unable to respond to the Houthi's they're supporting. A ragged bunch of monkeys with missiles. So Iran will continue to poke the US and learn from it what our responses are and how we then react. Those lessons are valuable for the mullahs.

And lastly, there are factions inside the administration and outside it that want to appease Iran.

It will not end with a tit-for-tat back and forth between US forces and the Iranians.

75 Iran has been thirsting for an actual war with the United States for *decades.* We've ignored them, mostly, and they have been largely ineffectual in causing mass mayhem (with notable exceptions like Beirut).

They WANT a war of annihilation because they believe it will usher in the End Times of their mad religion, where they will win in the end.

They will not stop until someone makes them stop. If not us, then China, Russia or India... China and Russia are only on their side (such as it is) because Iran is firmly against us. They'd have a very different response if/when Iran starts attacking their direct interests.

Many NATO countries were said to have already had weapons stockpiles that did not meet the bloc's targets prior to Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine nearly a year ago, according to the report from Reuters.

Reuters also quoted an unnamed European diplomat who said: "If Europe were to fight Russia, some countries would run out of ammunition in days."...According to Reuters, many officials from NATO countries had "considered wars of attrition with large-scale artillery battles a thing of the past." Therefore, multiple NATO countries had let their stockpiles decrease even before Russia launched its prolonged conflict.

Ammunition and artillery, not guided systems, although it mentions HIMARS later in the article, again in reference to other countries.

At no point does it refer to US stockpiles, only those of NATO allies.

The "isolationist" part is not to get drawn into wars where we send lots of American soldiers to die for nebulous victory conditions, and the "make the rubble bounce" part is what we should be doing instead of putting boots on the ground. The idea would be that the response to aggression is swift, decisive, and done in the way that minimizes loss of American lives. The goal would be to kill the person responsible (preferably, the person directly responsible, and a few members up the chain of command of him as well for good measure).

From what I can tell, MAGA is against the Ukraine war (instigated by Biden regime), and sees the bigger enemy is China (Biden's friend, and puppet master?).

Trump pushed for Europe to put more money into their own defense, and was more directly against China, for Taiwan. Peace through strength imo, is not pushing into every conflict, or creating conflicts.

My guess is the globalists want USA to fight the others to the death, and the WEFers will then rise from the ashes, or some such.

The U.S. failed to stop a deadly attack on an American military outpost in Jordan because the enemy drone approached its target at the same time a U.S. drone was also returning to base, U.S. officials said Monday.

The return of the U.S. drone led to some confusion over whether the incoming drone was friend or foe, officials have concluded so far.

The enemy drone was launched from Iraq by a militia backed by Tehran, U.S. officials said. The outpost, Tower 22, sits in Jordan, hard on the borders of Iraq and Syria.

171 >>>Are these actually contradictory? I mean, I can see how they could be contradictory, but the impression I always got was that they're expressing two parts of the same kind of sentiment. The "isolationist" part is not to get drawn into wars where we send lots of American soldiers to die for nebulous victory conditions, and the "make the rubble bounce" part is what we should be doing instead of putting boots on the ground.

Tucker Carlson takes the position that it's only "interests" in America that "want a war with Iran that no one else does," and further, that we shouldn't even support Israel because that increases the chances we will be drawn into a war with Iran.

This is full-blown pacificism/Ron Paul Isolationism (with that peculiar anti-Israel bend). This is not "well it depends." This is announcing that anything Iran does is due to provocation by the US and that we should not attack them under any circumstances.

Did Iran kill our soldiers in Jordan? Well then we shouldn't have had soldiers in Jordan. We were provoking Iran by having them there. It's really due to our provocations that they attacked us.

175 Even back in the 1790's and 1800's, foreign policy went back and forth. Adams, for example, created the Navy which was designed from the start to protect America's commerce abroad. Jefferson then used that very Navy to attack the Barbary pirates in their lair for interfering with American shipping. This was despite the fact that otherwise Jefferson pursued neutrality between France and Great Britain and spent little on more ships for the Navy.

The key to MAGA foreign policy is US interests are considered first. Not Europe's, China's, Russia's, etc. So, Afghanistan occupation was not in the US national interest as the occupation cost a lot with minimal benefits to the US as far as safety. Ditto for Syria and in both cases, the major threat was allowing immigration from these terrorists countries--not so much the countries themselves.

Simply put, the GWOT overstretched the US to try to guarantee safety to other countries everywhere which is an impossible task. Even NATO has long been an overstretch along with Korea given that both of these entities are capable of defending themselves and US support necessarily will not be with ground troops but logistics, air, and space.

In hindsight, it seems weirdly internally inconsistent to, as a general rule, assert that the federal government's actions in one sector (economics) is probable to make things worse rather than improve them and that we therefore should require a very high bar of scrutiny for actions taken in that venue, while at the same time having a relatively low bar for military action that the same government would take.

What I seem to be seeing is people reflexively dunking on Haley/Graham/whomever and not thinking any farther than that. Some will insist that this wouldn't have happened if Trump was in office, and completely overlook the implication that what would have prevented it is Iran's worry that Trump might hit them back hard enough to care.

I think part of it is the weird pacifist libertarians thinking this is somehow their moment that they can win if they can just keep people from noticing that Iran is engaging in a war with us by the means they have available to them.

But I'm FOR supporting him in the way we would a non-NATO member. This idea that we have to shovel bundles of money (much of which is probably be laundered and shipped back to DC), is ludicrous.

Our current foreign policy is such a mess we have troops in harms way around the world, and, for what reason? Are they there to draw fire so as to create yet another excuse for massive American involvement?

Trying put the onus on MAGA to sort out a situation they didn't create isn't necessarily the right argument.

228 "Our military is woefully prepared, morale is in the shitter and we have not set out to actually win a war by utterly crushing the enemy since 1945."

I'm growing tired of a great deal of this as well. We have an extremely well prepared, professional military thanks to 20+ years of war. Argument for another day. That military has crushed the enemy, twice in Iraq, and the DoS along with various administration setting unrealistic ROE's and no end game, lost the "peace". I don't think there's any question that on some sectors Democrats have destroyed morale with their social policies but there's a good portion of the tip of the sword that doesn't give a fuck. They do what they do, regardless. Is there a vacuum in leadership at the GO level? Yes, but that didn't happen overnight and frankly Trump let that ride. In terms of recruiting, well the pool of recruits sucks. Worse then ever there are more in that pool who wouldn't even make it to MEPS. Granted, some of that wouldn't be an issue if they had better numbers from veterans families, but the overall pool of slovenly fat, lazy people is really what ultimately is the problem.

Keeping sea lanes open actually is a legitimate use of force, but does anyone think if things start to go "boom" in the homeland, which almost is guaranteed, Joe and Kamala won't in a nanosecond be on the deck of an Iranian battleship signing a surrender agreement?

This can't even be fought in a realistic way given what has happened at the border unless there is a willingness to sacrifice numerous American civilians--which most likely is there.

I lost friends in those two wars and it very much upsets me that those that lost their lives in Afghanistan died in vain. Twenty Years there just to replace the Taliban with the Taliban. We have absolute trash military leadership. People should have court martialed.
I'm more reserved about what our military should be used for. If they want to bomb more than an aspirin factory in retaliation I say go ahead. But war? If we aren't going to commit to total war then its not even worth putting boots on the ground.

Pacifist isn't the right word to react to this, but I sure as hell don't want American servicemen being used in this way.

well yes, but this illustrates what I meant (and didn't express clearly) when I said this was going from a "guidance" to a "doctrine."

Yes, i undestand the feeling that the Deep State is very bad at waging war and we shouldn't give them the keys to the car when they're drunk, which is always. I endorse, 100%, the skepticism of the Deep State's claims for the need of war, and expecially their claims of their capability of waging war.

But that's what I mean by a "guidance' -- something we must bear in mind when making decisions.

But the New Isolationists like Tucker Carlson aren't taking this as a guidance, but as an absolute doctrine: No war, ever, not even less-than-war things like airstrikes or giving support to allies, because that increases the chances of being drawn into a war by 0.0001%, and that's too great a risk.

---------
Smedley was very familiar with the Banana Republic Wars where the US Marines were used willy nilly to support the likes of United Fruit Company and US investors that loaned money to various Banana Republics in the Caribbean.

Robert Heinlein, an Annapolis grad and former naval officer, expressed his opinion of the era as the Navy and Marines were subject to the President's commands to protect and defend American interests abroad while the US Army belonged to Congress (as in being involved in a major ground war). Nowadays, include the USAF also as a light on the ground force subject to Presidential command short of declaring war.

Unfortunately, the US Army and its reserve components provide a temptation to invade and occupy rather than raid foreign countries and we have used it to invade Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, etc. without declaration of War. Invading and occupying indicate total war is needed, not calibrated strikes and that should require a formal declaration of war.

They were resoundingly criticized at the time, and one might argue it invited further invasions by Russia, including in Ukraine. "Sanctions" people bleated, were weak and ineffectual. It's ironic. Because a Brookings institute 2012 article clearly shows that Obama came into office thinking that the Republicans were "unnecessarily provoking" Putin. That's what all the "Reset Button" was about, the "Silicon Valley in Russia" investment encouragement, the removal of technology embargos.

+ 8 Years, Putin is the DC caricature for All Bad Things.

Even in 2012 the Brookings Institute praised Obama for seeing Putin as a "rational world leader". This is after Russia's annexation of Georgia.

This is why it's hard to buy the DNC on "Russia hacking"--because Hillary and Obama totally enabled it, because oppositional politics made them decry the Republicans as too mean to Putin!

lol. Sure it is. That's why they are fighting with the Russians in Ukraine and there are unmarked graves and disappearances. It's also the same strategy Russia has been trying elsewhere. There was no way they would let Crimea turn into a place where Western assets would park. They also didn't want NATO in Ukraine, but that's largely a straw man. To just say "oh the Deep State has been salivating for war with Iran for 25 years' is doing exactly what I'm accusing the neo-isolationists of -- excusing the vicious attacks by a hostile foreign regime and claiming the only conflict here is due to what Americans are doing.

396 We are in the midst of a major change in war-making, with Iran behind much of it:

Proxies with access to accurate ballistic missies
In expensive drones of all sizes, capable of swarning attacks
Fire and forget, proliferation of mobile launchers, underground launcher
Defensive weapons that cost a million per shot
Major navies (US, UK, India) stymies

Where will be in another ten or twenty years?

I mean, does everyone believe EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE now of what they used to? If so, and you've thought about this and decided to flip 180 degrees and embrace the "America is the cause of all world conflict" position -- fine, you thought through it and made a choice.

I don't think most people have thought about this or what they really believe. I think most people are just repeating memes on the interent and converting themselves to full neo-isolationism without ever really debating it with themselves.

Posted by: Blake - semi lurker at large at January 29, 2024 12:42 PM (tT6L1)

Unfortunately, that strategy has a long history in the US. Back in my Army days in the mid-80s, DoD formed the Infantry Division (Light) concept by taking a normal Infantry Division and stripping out virtually all of the supporting armor, weapons and vehicles. This made it "world-wide deployable" via 500 aircraft sorties. It also made the unit incapable of taking on anything more powerful that a local gendarmerie.

So you could put boots on the ground, but the heaviest weapons were a few TOW missile tubes and about 4-6 missiles per tube. In 6ID (L), we even had all of our 50 cal machine guns pulled, except a few units in the Division armory for training and Expert Infantry Badge testing.

We used to darkly joke that our job was to land in an enemy country and immediately get slaughtered so that the heavy armor could build up and counterattack in about 6 months to avenge our deaths.

After 9/11 the left was in shock. Not because the US was attacked but because a blue area was attacked. Michael Moore famously opined the jihadis should have targeted a state that voted for Shrub...

The jihadis scared them even that the left got on board with the WoT. Before David Brooks wanted to suck Obama's Chambers of Commerce...uh...admired his pants crease... Maureen Dodd wanted to play hide the military budget with Donald Rumsfeld.

Scared them until...2004 or so when the left then decided to make friends with the jihadis again...

If there is a terror attack from across our currently open board in a red area the FNM/left will argue it is well deserved. If it is a big one in a blue area they'll argue to expel/kill jihadis in mass.

If Biden is "too anti-Iran' for the neo isolationists, then literally, there is nothing IRan can do which would warrant a military response.

Yup, the question becomes, why were they there? Why did we have a semi permanent presence in Jordan? A UN Member State.

UN Treaty says we can't invade Jordan. UN Treaty WAS ratified by the Senate, which therefore has the power of US Law per the Constitution.

So these Men were killed during an illegal operation. Their COMMANDERS, all the way up, are complicit in those deaths.

My first instinct was: find out where it came from and bomb the fuck out of it.

And then I thought of civilian casualties, and thought maybe we go the fliers route--but that's the thing about warfare that we have given them money to modernize, any alert for the citizens can clear out is an alert to the people who are your target.

I think it's a legitimate question of whether we should be in Jordan, even though I probably fall on the "Yes" side.

But if Kyle is really supposed to be an appropriate analogy, it seems reasonable enough to ask whether he should have ever left his home to be in another state in the first place. The "MAGA" policy would be to elect someone the fuck besides Biden. How about that ?

Or are we pretending today that we're into a deep, thoughtful debate on the topic or some such bullshit ?

Posted by: deadrody at January 29, 2024 01:41 PM (v3dj8)

Posted by: deadrody at January 29, 2024 01:42 PM (v3dj8)

530 I think this "pacifism" stuff is happening because a lot of ex-fans of Ron Paul got involved with the MAGA movement when Trump made "not getting us into a war" as one of the planks of his foreign policy.

The problem is that even in a direct attack by Iran against US shipping in the Red Sea, a lot of the Ron Paul guys are going to be saying things like "THE CIA ORDERED IRAN TO ATTACK THE US SO THE US CAN START ANOTHER WAR AS PART OF THE DEEP STATE PLOT."

Unfortunately, this kind of talk has started to seep into mainstream Republican thought. I have little doubt that if Trump is actually elected he won't let stuff like this stand, but until then we get to listen to ex-Ronulans postulate that China attacking Taiwan or Iran attacking US shipping is actually a deep state plot (despite the fact that it humiliates Biden and makes him look weak).

532 I know this thread has been willowed, but let me just say that I think Ace is correct in identifying these two seemingly contradictory impulses. However, I submit to you that the traditional, America First policy that is consistent with these impulses is as follows:

We don't want to be pulled into bullshit conflicts in which we have very little real national interest, but if we DO decide to go to war, we want to make the rubble bounce.

This was the view of the majority of the body politic from the Civil War through WW2, and again from the end of Vietnam through the First Gulf War. We would do well to rediscover it.

Posted by: Milquetoast Mortgage-Paying Neighbor in Flyover Country at January 29, 2024 01:48 PM (5C4od)

533 The other issue, like with everything else, is a catastrophic loss of trust in our institutions. We trusted them on Iraq. Oops.

So when we ask "why are we in Jordan" and the Pentagon says "trust us, we need to be there," that shit don't fly anymore.

The job of the politicians is to explain to us why the Pentagon thinks we need to be there. If you can't do that because nobody believes anything you say because you are a proven liar, or you are a dementia patient who can't remember which flavor of jello you like best, let alone why we are in Jordan, well, it isn't very persuasive. And again, that is not OUR fault. It's the fault of the ruling class who has squandered our trust through their corruption and incompetence. It's up to them to earn it back, or better yet, go the fuck home and let somebody else try.

Posted by: Milquetoast Mortgage-Paying Neighbor in Flyover Country at January 29, 2024 02:01 PM (5C4od)

537 Suddenly it is being a pacifist to err on the side of not getting into a foreign war. Okay Ace.
How about we do some basics like stop funding our enemies and replenish our depleted arsenal, in addition to fix the recruiting issue due to DEI in the military before we go off to war? Is that being a pacifist Ace?
Funny Ace accusing "MAGA" (whatever that means) of inconsistency. This is basically just more whining about DeSantis losing.

540 So now we have troops in Jordan, too. I wonder when our government was going to tell us.

541 First, there's the hardcore pacifist/isolationist impulse, which has hardened from a mere guidance to an absolute doctrine.

There there's the Make the Rubble Bounce contingent.

There's absolutely no need to make a distinction, Ace. A great many of us advocate for only defending America's direct interests and think that we should let most of the rest of the world fare for itself.

We also simultaneously believe that the moment America is attacked (or even our vital strategic interests - like shipping us our toys) we should go Total War on our enemy and ensure that 4 generations from now, those people are still telling their grandkids, "You do NOT want to f*** with the United States of America! That one patch out by the barns still glows because we did that before." Because then we can live in peace and not get involved in wars we shouldn't be involved in.

542 You know why the mussies don't mess with Russia. Because if one Russian was killed a thousand jihaddies and their entire families would meet Allah in hell. And the goat lovers know this.

On the other hand they know Biden-Obama are about as terrifying as Elmer Fuud.
