The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I know folks may question my style, but don’t question my leadership,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson

Quote II

“First of all, technology fails. These limiters are GPS based, or use cameras to read speed signs, or similar things. There are already incidents where people had limiters placed in their cars, and instead of complying, they ripped out road signs or cracked open the car and destroyed the device or the GPS unit," Automotive legal expert, Herschel Williams

PA Sen. John Fetterman may be a Democrat. But lately, I'm enjoying his style.

Pro-Palestinian Protesters Showed Up at John Fetterman's House. His Reaction Was Priceless.

As we noted this morning, Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) penchant for bucking the Democratic Party line might no longer be a one-off thing. It could be a trend. We now have a handful of issues where he is decidedly against the brass, and it’s refreshing. While I wish the GOP had supermajorities in both chambers, that’s not the case, and we need some Democrats to do stuff.

U.S. Navy Drops High School Diploma, GED Requirement for Recruits — What Could Possibly Go Wrong

No Diploma? No Problem! The U.S. Navy has again lowered enlistment requirements as it struggles to meet self-inflicted recruiting goals. We'll get to the latter in a bit. Spoiler: Perhaps Navy brass should have dropped Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals instead.

Up to 15 years of prison for a cop who fails to turn on body camera. How about the Tennessee legislature require district attorneys to fully prosecute gun charges? And while you are at it, make sure the judiciary can't agree to plea deals on those charges.

Just a few days after I published “It’s Never Enough,” that discussed the never ending demands on law enforcement, I discovered one of the most sinister demands that has taken the form of a legislative bill in the state of Tennessee.

Before I discuss the most hateful and anti-police legislation attempts I have ever seen, you need some context on body cameras.

Bad Intentions…Terrible Results

The idea of body cameras seemed like a Star Trek episode a decade ago and today, 85% of the cops in America are wearing one and the industry boasts a 7.5 billion dollar value that is expected to double in five years.

But the idea of demanding body cameras for law enforcement was not driven by a quest to make a multi-billion dollar industry by providing that “free” body camera attached to a lifetime of monthly data storage costs but rather the cries of racist cops.

It's noble you want healthy and sustainable food. Your actions will hurt your cause more than it helps. I want to smack them.

Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa (around 1503-19) was attacked at the Musée du Louvre, in Paris, today by environmental activists who threw soup over the world's most-recognised and most-viewed painting. The celebrated portrait, which has been protected by security glass for the past 70 years, was not damaged in the attack.

In a video posted on X by the French news agency CLPRESS, two women members of the food protest group Riposte Alimentaire ("food response") are seen approaching the semi-circular wooden barrier in front of the painting, before throwing soup at it and climbing under the barriers. They stand in front of the canvas, and are heard demanding, in French, the right to "healthy and sustainable food", saying "our agricultural system is sick". Security guards are then seen erecting black screens in front of the portrait and its soup-splattered protective glazing.

The “Salle des Etats”, the room housing the Mona Lisa, was evacuated but subsequently reopened

Alyssa Milano is spotted driving her $200k electric Porsche Taycan with son Milo to pet store - days after asking for $10k donation for his baseball team trip
Multimillionaire Charmed star was seen driving her fully-loaded and customized 2023 electric Porsche Taycan 4S just days after she was slammed on the Internet for sharing a GoFundMe for son's baseball trip
DailyMail.com learned the British Racing Green paint job is custom and costs $14k - more than the donation she asked for son Milo's trip; Milano defended herself, saying she bought 'uniforms for the entire team'
Alyssa, 51, and her 12-year-old son spent their Saturday afternoon cuddling up with rescue puppies at a PetSmart in Los Angeles - and it looks like they even took a couple home

Tesla battery explodes in Cary home after being removed and charged inside
Police say a Tesla car battery caught fire in a Cary home Saturday afternoon.

While charging, the battery experienced a short circuit.

Broadcastify radio traffic reveals what exactly happened inside the house.

"It looks like it's the smaller of the two batteries from the car, in the kitchen charging it up, and then it exploded," the dispatcher said.

Harming animals is a great way to become: Tonight's Genius Award Winner.

JANUARY 25--A West Virginia woman was charged with animal cruelty after she placed a pet gecko into a garbage disposal and turned the appliance on during a violent confrontation yesterday with her boyfriend, police report.

After receiving an anonymous 911 call about a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in Hurricane, a Charleston suburb, cops spoke with a man identified as a domestic battery victim in a criminal complaint.

The man told cops that he and Hannah Jones, 19, “were going to have sex when they got home but it did not work out as planned.” A “verbal argument” followed, during which he called Jones a “slut,” the man stated.

Jones, seen at right, allegedly then struck the man twice with a curtain rod, leaving him with a knot and laceration on his forearm.

Living the dream. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A warehouse worker who entertained friends with his spot-on Elvis impersonations is now earning $500 a night as a tribute act after they sneaked a video of him to a showbiz agent.

Danny Turney worked as a warehouse supervisor for 15 years in Bedfordshire, England, stacking and moving palettes of goods.

During the COVID pandemic, he was singing in his kitchen while making a cup of tea and wife, Laura, discreetly recorded him, uploading it to Facebook.

I'm not saying that the NFL wouldn't rig the game in favor of the Chiefs, because they clearly have a ton of reasons to do so. In this case, however, the Ravens lost that game all on their own. They had to keep their emotions out of the game to have a chance of winning this one, and they completely failed.

Go to Bing and do an image search like "Cerebus the aardvark Jakka" and look. It's sooooo strange. Like the writer/artist predicted Taylor Swift.

Her people, and maybe the people in the media, don't seem to get it that if they keep shoving her at the public to this degree, a lot of people will get sick of her. Seeing someone's face that much, and having to hear every little detail about what they are doing, just gets annoying after a while. If her people are smart, they will dial it back.

So 99% of everything I listen to is hard rock and heavy metal, but that 1% is an oddball assortment of mainstream pop shit that I heard when I were a lad, classical and...anime theme songs. And this here's a good 'un! That opening piano melody is a real winner and the whole song just grabs me. Freakin' excellent number and accessible to anyone as long as you don't mind lyrics that aren't in English.

But for those that are interested, this song serves as the end credit theme to the anime Higurashi: When They Cry - Sotsu.
Posted by: Robert

The music style reminds me of Nana Mizuki, or May'n. They have less of the "counter-counter-soprano anime voice." Links to Nana, since I'm more of a fan of hers.

The music from the original Higurashi series was pretty good, too. Eiko Shimamiya. A lot more electronic than Missing Promise, but it fits the show.

Well, this January is now officially the 2nd wettest Jan on record. The record was 10.63" set in 1906. GSP just clocked in at 10.16". That fellow at the airstrip's station recorded 9.92", and my cousin has 10.03" total, both within a mile of me.

Normal for Jan (past 20 years) is 3.62", and the mean over the entire record is 4.23".

Records go back to the mid-1880s, but it's a bit spotty and consistent daily and monthly data didn't happen until the early 1900s. So, you can say we've got a record of 120 years.

421 I took the ASVAB in 1975, and enlisted in the USAF under the Delayed Enlistment Program. Went Active Duty a couple months after graduating in 1976.

That D.E.P. got me the "old" G.I. Bill, and also, something which I have *never* claimed, that of the "Viet Nam Era Veteran" on my DD-214, and corresponding V.A. benefits.

I was never within 8,000 miles of the place, why should I draw benefits from the 80k+ who died there, and the hundreds of thousands of other who served, many wounded?

My enlistment was for one reason, and one reason only. To try to get my sick and dying mom on the rolls, as my dependent. Alas, as I couldn't prove 50% of her income, this failed. And, she died barely two years into my one hitch.

I didn't re up for another. Carter years. Who wanted to risk four more years of *that!?*

I'm in great shape regarding stairs. Of course that could always change. My concern in hot weather is that the upstairs is always warmer than below, and even with central air I might have to add a window unit to my bedroom and/or study if they're both up there.
