Getting a little sporty out there, innit?

Chestypullergst.jfif

So it this our Fort Sumter moment? I don't think so. I don't think anything is going to happen. But a resurgence of the 10th Amendment would be nice. I did notice one small error Ace made earlier. He said it was 25 states. Nuh-uh.

Texit.jfif

It's 25 states supporting Texas. That's 26 states, also known as, as I like to point out to those always screeching about “Muh Democracy!”, a majority. Also, the red is contiguous, but we really need KS, KY and NC. Then we could let those eastern and western bastards freeze in the dark.

Walking The RAZOR's Edge

Georgia Congressman Announces RAZOR Act to Support Texas' Right to Defend Its Border

Another elected official from the Peach State is expressing his support for Texas in the form of legislation in the House. Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), who I'm proud to say is my congressman, announced legislation that he will sponsor that aims to make sure the feds don't mess with Texas.

"Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) announced that he will introduce the Restricting Administration Zealots from Obliging Raiders (RAZOR) Act," reads a press release from Colins' office. "The legislation would ban the federal government, including the U.S. Border Patrol, from removing or otherwise altering any state-constructed barriers installed to mitigate illegal immigration."

Nice idea. Biden will never sign it, even if it did pass, but things like this are important to frame the debate.

Sky Scraper

The tallest building in the United States will be built in a city you've probably never been to

Plans to build the tallest skyscraper in the United States are shaping up in an unlikely metropolis: XXXXX.

Developers at a real estate company are adjusting the already ambitious plans to construct the Boardwalk at Bricktown tower by a few hundred feet to make the building reach 1,907 feet high — which would make it the tallest in the country

Go on, guess the city. Then click through to see if you're right.

Varyag degrees of success

Enjoy the tale of a hapless Russian cruiser.

Growing up in the Anglosphere, it’s easy to assume that celebrating futile and needless defeat is a peculiarly British characteristic. After all, in the national imagination Dunkirk was a noble victory. Robert Falcon Scott was the bravest little ice cube in Antarctica. The commissioning of Mrs Brown’s Boys the cultural highlight of- well, okay. There are limits.

For embracing sheer unrelenting misery as a national characteristic, however, one nation stands supreme: Russia. They’d love Mrs Brown’s Boys. They might even think of it as a comedy…

And nothing, perhaps, captures this tendency quite as well as the story of the protected cruiser Varyag. Who could resist a rousing patriotic battlesong that says – loosely – “we’re all screwed”. Or in the slightly longer translation –

Get up, you comrades, everyone to his place, the final parade is at hand.
Our proud “Varyag” will not surrender to the enemy. No one wants mercy.

I dunno about you, but if I were aboard Varyag I’d have a few questions there. Run me past that “mercy” bit again, could you? I’m sure we could take just a little bit of mercy? Just a taste? No? Suit yourself – I’ll be in the lifeboat.

Appeasing The Football Gods

5 weeks ago, a Buffalo fan fell into a pit where their new stadium is being built and the Bills won. The fans have thrown someone in the pit each week since

I have a source (Dr. Jerome Silberman) inside the ECMC Emergency Room that has informed me that, despite no reports shared by local media, they have seen a patient that has fallen into the pit on EVERY SINGLE GAMEDAY since the start of the Bills 5 game win streak.

Their luck ran out last week when the Bills lost to the Chiefs. Maybe next year they should try a volcano.

Oh, No, Canada

Child Euthanasia without Parent Approval Pushed for Canada

If, however, a capable [legally underage] patient explicitly indicates that they do not want their family members involved in their decision-making, although healthcare providers may encourage the patient to reconsider and involve their family, ultimately the wishes of capable patients with respect to confidentiality must be respected. If we regard MAID as practically and ethically equivalent to other medical decisions that result in the end of life, then confidentiality regarding MAID should be managed in this same way.

In order to protect staff members from potential violence and social harassment, we will not make public the names of the healthcare providers at The Hospital for Sick Children who have volunteered to provide MAID, nor will we disclose a full list of persons who comprised our working group.
We will, however, as an institution, publicly discuss the provision of MAID in an effort to normalise this procedure and reduce social stigma for everyone involved. It is right and appropriate for this duty to fall to a well-resourced institution rather than rest on the shoulders of individual patients and providers.

And remember, “depression” is one of the conditions for which they are allowed to kill you. So 16 year old Tommy gets dumped by his gf, he can go off to the...I don't want to say hospital, lets call it the MAID service, and get his shot. Boom boom, out go the lights. These people are sick.

Dad was one of the spectators at the last lethal chamber executions in Oregon, he worked at one of the Salem papers at the time. It was Hydrogen Cyanide, they dropped the pellets in a bucket of acid under the chair.

Dad had gone the day or so before the execution to review the area for another article, and when the Warden had his back turned, Dad sat in the chair and had his photographer snap a picture of it. He had that picture framed, but Mom wouldn't let him put it up in the house, so he hung it on the door of the fruit room until they divorced.

I visited the memorial and accompanying museum, then had dinner at the now sadly defunct Cimarron Steakhouse: Huge Porterhouse, very rare, with potato. It cost less than a ribeye at most places. They “Proudly served A1 Steak Sauce” according to the menu, but I’ll be damned if I know why. That steak was perfection. I took a picture that I occasionally send to PETA, because fuck em, and sometimes i maybe think about it during, well hell, you know.

That's getting a little to close to Nazi mass execution methods. It's why the gas chamber has been retired. Personally, I thought the gas chamber was a terrible idea for an execution method. CO is just anther version of the Nazis CO vans and their T4 program.

As far as execution methods go, the firing squad still has my vote. Yeah, the one with the blank cartridge knows, but it's a quickly efficient and relatively cheap method of putting down a rabid dog.

324 Hellooo! Very long time lurker here and I'm here on a mission, or more accurately, to find someone to send on a mission.

I'd like to do something for those Texans down at Eagle Pass standing in the breach to staunch the invasion. I'm thinking they might like to have some pizzas and drinks (or, hey, breakfast tacos) delivered to them. I'd certainly like to be able to buy some and have that done from my semi haven here in NY.

My problem is not knowing any of the logistics, from this distance. Google maps shows there are plenty of pizza shops but it's best if it close to where the State Guard is operating. Are there any morons who live near there willing to take up the attempt to link up a willing pizza shop (or two) and an outfit (or more) whose command will accept delivery?

Actually, it doesn't even need to be Eagle Pass. If it gets started in one place, I think it will spread along the border rapidly. It just needs to be kick-started. Good news travels fast.

So, anyone in the vicinity of the border who has ongoing border patrols and patronizes a pizza shop that's willing to deliver put the shop's name and package details in the ONT so I can place an order.

The perp's heart is in fact "obliterated" without exit from the torso or maybe one or two small punch throughs into the sand bag propped directly behind the perp.

Clean up is a "flop the body in the bag." and turn out the lights for the most part.

That's my call.

Any dissenting?

Friend has a tree removal business. We do a clean up at church every fall. You can run an 8 inch diameter log through his chipper and it barely skips a beat. There are multiple safety features to prevent accidental sausage making. Had a neighbor years ago running a screw splitter off his tractor pto to split his firewood. Strap of his overalls got caught by the screw and it took his leg clean off, 6 inches above the knee.

In India (but elsewhere, too), the British army did a lot of executions by the 'blown from a canon' method. It's a firing squad write large. One is tied to the front end of a canon, using the wheel spokes to secure the condemned tightly, then the fuse is lit. Bit messy, though.

The 60s was soon after Cuban Missile Fiasco, Gary Powers of U2 'fame' and JFK assassination. There was no real detente with the USSR. There would not have been any joint invasion. Maybe one or the other. We couldn't beat N. Korea so I think we would have lost against a determined few million of a White pissed-off population. Remember the Boers beat the British before.

The killers got their wish, removing her feeding tube. And I remember how they kept saying that starving her to death was "Painless". Pain-free... for the two weeks it took before she died.

Maybe make that the next execution method? Just starve the murders. One last meal, sedate them, then sew up their mouths. Keep them in solitary confinement for a month or two, however long it takes to 'peacefully' pass.

If it was good enough for a poor woman who was never convicted of a crime, why not for those on Death Row?

Ok, I'll play.

Couple decades ago, my BF's uncle did himself in. (BF found the body)

Pills all over the kitchen floor, kitchen faucet still running. Pooped underwear in the bathroom. Tools strewn around the attached garage entry. Uncle was in his pickup, in the garage. Garage door closed. Several vacuum cleaner hoses screwed/taped together and leading from tailpipe to cab, through the wing-window and into uncle's mouth.

We figure he took a bunch of pills, but then came-to (with messy underwear) and then went to his plan B?

BF had nightmares for weeks. Said what he saw was *very ugly*.

Uncle was a brilliant man, who'd lost the love of his life years before, had no children... and had been to his Dr the day before. Bad news, perhaps?

Of course, they would say no. But, doing so (and them reacting in the negative) gives Abbott great political cover when he buses more and more illegals into their biggest cities. With each load...he can recite their response. And, the residents there won't be as belligerent as the politicians...Abbott won't take the heat for that...the governors of those states will be the subject of ridicule of their own legal residents.

I have all KINDS of fantasies about not letting that border crisis go to waste.

One is that Abbott plays the blue-city mayors against each other. He says to Eric Adams, "Make a public speech admitting Trump was right and Biden is a disaster, or I'll send another ten busloads to... CHICAGO."

Adams fails to do it, so Abbott says "Here's your ten busloads courtesy of Eric Adams, Chicago!"

410 404 MAID would be okay, IMO, for those who are terminally ill. No exceptions.

But, we all have seen the fking slippery slopes and know it would soon be corrupted, perhaps even be made mandatory.

Therefore: no go.

Slippery slope, indeed.

I remember when there were no car seatbelt laws.
Then Kali decided that you should wear the seatbelt for safety, but it wasn't mandatory.
Then it was mandatory, but you wouldn't be ticketed unless you were pulled over for some other violation.
Then they could ticket you for not wearing your seatbelt.

Amazing how the ratchet goes...
But don't get me wrong, wearing seatbelts is the smart thing to do.

487 476 Doesn't it take 3/4 of the states to ratify an amendment, instead of 2/3? Or, if memory serves, 3/4 of state legislatures or ratifying conventions in 3/4 of the states (a provision only used once, I want to say).

Posted by: Toronto May Be Fictional at January 26, 2024 02:40 AM (XCNCp)

I believe it takes 2/3 of the State legislators.

Posted by: vic at January 26, 2024 02:53 AM (A5THL)

488
Yep. Takes 2/3 of Congress to propose a constitutional amendment, or 2/3 of state legislatures to call for a constitutional convention.

In any case, it takes 3/4 of the states to ratify any such proposed amendments.

489 Article V:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

490 FWIW, Sumter wasn't procedural, nor theoretical. Jus' sayin', is all.

491 Article. V.

whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments,
which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and
Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress;
Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

So, it takes three fourths of the State Legislatures ratify an amendment.

So sorry to hear that Teresa. It rings true as our Bailey, yellow lab to be 14 in Apr, is really struggling thru this winter.

We thought she was a goner when around Thanksgiving she couldn't eat and puked for 3-4 days.

Still hanging in there tho thru our subzero temps. For anyone w/ old arthritic dogs I'd recommend Galliprant. Expensive but worth it.

494 Or, it takes conventions in three fourths of the States to ratify Constitutional Amendments.

Posted by: rednotgreen at January 26, 2024 03:18 AM (RCAte)

495 Ciampino, that reminds me of how so many people in the Post Office refused to accept that New Mexico was a state - immensely frustrating.

Your stay in Ugunda at least avoided the Idi Amin insanity but coincided with Ugundan independence and the fun and games over in Kenya - was it a bit worrisome there at that time?

Posted by: Toronto May Be Fictional at January 26, 2024 03:23 AM (XCNCp)

496 Why add an amendment when the problem is a rogue bureaucracy that ignores already existing laws, statutes, amendments, and even articles?

Our problems don't stem from any lack of ink on paper.

499 The Mau Mau uprising started in 1952 in Kenya and never affected us in Uganda. In 1954 we took a train from Jinja as the dam project was complete. On our way to Mombasa to catch the ship we had a brief stop in Nairobi. There a number of armed escorts got on the train and I remember all the White people in the station, even the women, all sported sidearms. I was very young then so this was just something to see but not understand.
Had a fun boat trip to Genova (Italy), through the Suez Canal. Jinja is where the White Nile starts. I often wonder if the water I last saw there got to Port Said (Egypt) before or after we got there.
For a kid those were marvelous times and magical places even if somewhat primitive in some aspects.

505 Morning, early risers! 'Tis 65 F. and damp, but no rain expected until later today, so I have no excuse not to go work out.

I'm pleased to see that more than half the states are standing up on their hind legs here. I thought I'd seen that KY, though it hasn't declared itself in, had sent troops to the Texas-MX border? But it is nice to see that IN, the state I'm contemplating retiring to, is in as well.

506 I've considered Oklahoma as a bolthole as well. Our "elites" will sneer, and I might have once upon a time . . . but the Midwest gets more attractive to me every day. If it really is flyover country, then our coastal elites won't consider moving to such areas, leaving space for me.

507 Ciampino, was Robert Ruark's novel Something of Value, which focuses on the "Mau Mau Emergency," close to an accurate picture of the place and time? If you haven't read it, it's a fine story. Ruark was a newspaperman in the days when that meant something good, and he'd actually spent a plenty of time in Africa and Kenya especially, so I wonder.
