Paramount, the Parent Company of CBS, Set to Lay Off "Hundreds"
LA Times Begins Sending Out Pinkslips to 25% of Its "Workers"

Remember that time I accidentally posted porn?

Whoops, I'm doing it again.

Paramount Global is cutting "hundreds" of media workers.

Learn to... do anything of use.

Paramount Global -- the parent company off CBS, Paramount Pictures, Showtime, and numerous other media properties -- is reportedly set to lay off "hundreds" of employees across nearly all of its divisions.

The impending cuts represent the latest Hollywood bloodbath following layoffs at other corporations, including Disney, NBCUniversal, Amazon MGM Studios, and Universal Music Group.

...

Last year, Paramount slashed 25 percent of its employees across multiple media properties. As part of the reductions, it shut down MTV News.

The Breitbart article notes that Hollywood, which of course paid millions to install Joe Biden as president, is being destroyed due to the terrible consumer sentiment caused by Joe Biden's economy. Ad rates are trash and people are cutting out unnecessary expenditures -- like, for streaming services, like Paramount, they don't really need or even like all that much.

That reminds me, I have to cancel HBO and Hulu (which I got to inflate the amount of money Disney has to pay Comcast) and Peacock (which I got for Office reruns).

The free services Pluto, Tubi, and FreeVee have more than enough content for most people.

News: Employees at the Los Angeles Times are beginning to be notified that they are being laid off.
11:05 AM Jan 23, 2024

The LA Times prog idiots had staged a walkout to protest the coming layoffs. Apparently that did not work, and now they're being told they're fired. I mean, "Laid off."

(Fani Willis just emailed me to say, "I'd rather be laid on than laid off." She included a picture of Darrius "Sweetdick" Honeycum, Esq.'s shlong, for some reason. First time a woman sent me a dicpic. She then appended a postscript: "PS I know nothing at all about why the guy who I'm riding like I'm Luke Perry in 8 Seconds ended his marriage. Stop being so racist, Racist.")

Matt Pearce
@mattdpearce
L.A. Times management has notified me that 94 @latguild members are being notified of intended layoff today, or about one-fourth of our whole membership.

This total, while devastating, is nonetheless far lower than the total number of Guild layoffs initially expected last week.

They're claiming that 25% of the staff being slashed is a victory for the union?!! What would a loss be, exactly?

Maybe the LA Times is losing money because it has entered the "morbidly obese transgender 'model' centerfolds" phase of its decline:

Formerly of Buzzfeed "News."

IDEA

let's send all the striking @latimes journalists to Gaza.

they're very good at solving social problems and never exacerbating them, so sending them there would save many lives and bring peace

@latguild i'll happily pay the airfare for the first one

This is part of what I no-joke hate the most about the tranny BS.

There are unattractive women out there. That's just a fact. There are some women who are very mannish looking, unfortunately.

Ten years ago those women would've still been hit on by ugly guys and could possibly have found love and a fulfilling life like every other woman. No longer. Because even ugly guys don't want to hit on a dude.

And nowadays when they see her, they're going to assume that she's a dude.

People losing their jobs is bad. It sucks for them. Some non-trivial portion of those getting laid off will never recover from it. It will be a drag and a weight on all of them, and for some of them it will be the weight that sinks them to the bottom.

That sucks. It all sucks.

But the media companies in particular (and I put my industry - tech - in the same class, along with education) have done incalculable damage to western civilization and the damage compounds every minute they still exist. The death of the media industry is an unalloyed good, and the sooner the better.

It will not die, of course, but every diminishment of the media industry is a net positive for civilization.

We're about to enter the consolidation and advertising phases of the streaming services.

There are too many and they're too expensive and there's no accountability or quality control. Look for mergers and tie-ins to reduce the total to 3-4 services (except special-purpose services like Crunchyroll or Criterion), with at least two of the survivors also offering live TV. The "no ads" tiers will get more and more expensive to push people into the more lucrative ad-driven tiers. Then advertisers will call the shots to stop the egregious waste of "prestige television" programming.

Then, in about 5-7 years' time, we will have what we had before: cable.

The assessment is true, but that's actually irrelevant to the argument (though it probably helps her to sleep at night).

The argument she made is, "things were fine when we were the gate-keepers and nobody could compete against us or question us and what we said was, by definition, the truth. We'd be fine if upstarts hadn't wrested control of our markets from us." And that is, sadly, true. The hard left turn and insanity are secondary.

To all the newly unemployed formerly in media firms: it is time that you did something humbling and truly useful for society. Running your mouths or keyboards or electronic devices has done none of that. Nor has serving in pampered internships where you were merely glorified go-fers humping it to serve overpriced coffee and snacks to more worthless nullities than yourselves (because they had been unproductive for even longer than you).

No. Some of you are "urinalists"; now all of you should serve for a time as true urinalists. Get yourself a job cleaning public restrooms, as many others of your generation -- the beknighted, in your eyes -- have already done. Get out there and see at first hand what all your splendid ideas for improving society have accomplished and, seeing the harm, destruction, and decay that you have foisted on vast swaths of our society, devote serious thought and resolve to work to correct your mistakes. And they are YOUR mistakes.

Those restrooms are not going to clean themselves -- hump it and get to work!

This is a key point. Inflation helps raise taxes, as the price of everything is inflated, and everything costs more (sales tax), and as people get raises to "keep up" with inflation, they pay more taxes.
There was a guy in our town that was on the radio, explaining this several years ago, who owned a chain of pizza stores. Things were going great during Covid, because people were ordering out to eat (Pizza). And the talk of raising the minimum wage is also part of this game.
My wife texted me a picture of a gallon of OJ at Kroger's yesterday, that was $6.50. This was only about $3.25 a couple of years ago.
But....there is very little inflation, according to all the smart people.

We ran through a bunch of episodes of "Money Heist" last night on Netflix, and-

as it dribbles to a close, it's gone fully woke.

They really want to make sure you pay your toll in force fed woke messages every episode. This is the second heist that involves stealing all the gold from the Nat'l Treasury of Spain.

Some fun, unexpected twists but the must've hired Kathleen Kennedy to produce this part of the series.
Es no bueno.

Haley received 19% of the Iowa Caucus vote to Trump's 51% heading into today's voting. Ryan told Barron's Editor at Large Andy Serwer that Trump is the likely nominee, but Haley "has a plausible path." He also said Trump isn't fit for office. Trump didn't answer a request for comment.

My package from UPS is now running 5 days late. It's now sitting at their local sort (about 20 minutes away), but they couldn't be bothered to deliver it. They are blaming "severe weather." There is no severe weather. It's a balmy 48 and sunny out. Yeah, there's lots of snow still, but the roads are clear. They just failed to put the package on the truck this morning and now are hiding behind the weather.

I dunno if it's regional or not, but USPS has been outperforming UPS here for months. It's not even close.

In the early 80's, he had a newspaper column doing his Joe Bob Briggs thing as a Drive-In movie critic.
At least, here in DFW.

Then he went nationwide.

So that probably puts him in either the late 60s or possibly early 70s.

I work at a multibillion dollar construction company. My job is in the division that services offshore wind farm construction on the East Coast, which is a giant graft/ripoff/boondoggle/whatever on the American people. I don't feel that bad, because the people in these states largely helped elect the imbecilic flesh blobs that are driving this. That being said, if and when my division get eliminated and I have to look for work, I won't feel bad-- I'm participating in something sketchy and when it blows up, it blows up.

I was talking, years ago, to a then-coworker who'd done time in prison. He was telling me about being arrested and taking his plea deal, and he said one thing that struck me: "It's not like I was innocent."

391 Elephant Experiment" joke
Three scientists were one day discussing what would happen if they rammed a cork up an elephant's backside and force fed it for 2 weeks. But because the experiment had never been documented and the idea was hard to comprehend they decided to have a go.
A week after the experiment had started they began to realize WHY the idea had never been tried: they were stuck for someone to pull the cork out.
One of the scientists came up with the bright idea of training a monkey to do the job, so they spent the next week training it to pull out corks once a buzzer had rung, then push it back in for another go. When the big day arrived they set up all the monitoring equipment and moved out to a safe distance.
The first scientist went 1 mile away, the second went 2 miles away and the third went 3 miles. When they were all ready the first scientist pushed the button to sound the buzzer. BBBAAANNNGGG!!!
The third scientist (3 miles away) was up to his ankles in shit, the second (2 miles away) was up to his knees and the first (1 mile away) was up to his waist. When the others joined the scientist who was 1 mile away they noticed that he was in fits of laughter.

the Korean Rock, I was waiting to watch Roundup 3, he's really good in the GANGSTER, COP AND THE DEVIL. really like the story of a Gangster targeted by a Serial Killer and it's a race to find the Killer.

Too bad they're already unionized. Non-union newspapers have used the unionization process in the past to stop layoffs, which is hilarious. Years ago, the paper in Santa Barbara immediately started unionization when the owner announced layoffs, caterwauling that the layoffs weren't actually layoffs but they were retaliatory firings which were illegal in CA.

They THINK they're rich because they make $150k+, but..they're not. Not at all. Read a good analysis of this at Power Line blog. All their after tax income goes for yuugely expensive rental housing. And those blue state taxes. And every other inflated damn thing. They can't save any money, not unless they're in a DINK family-- (double income no kids).

However, the political views of these people are so far removed from the rest of America's views, it's like 2 different planets.
