Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ace of Spades Pet Thread, January 27New cross-species research suggests a theory of mind is one thing that sets humans apart from apes This study suggests that children will modify their food choices depending upon what they believe adult humans would prefer to eat, but that great apes consider only their own food preferences. I can't say that I am overly impressed with the study design. I don't argue with the conclusion, but the study still seems to me to be a little bit odd.
Hi, I've been following AOS for several years. I enjoy reading the morning report every week day at 8AM and enjoy the sense of humor your contributors bring. Your humor is appreciated in a world of politically correct norms. On to something important to me and my family. We lost our 12-year-old Golden Retriever, Payton, a week ago from yesterday. I was at a hockey tournament with my 12 year-old son when we heard the awful news of a cancer diagnosis and had to make the difficult decision to put her down that day. Attached is a picture of her from last Halloween (10/23). If you have the space we would appreciate so much seeing a picture of her on your blog. She, like the pets you feature every Saturday, brought us a lot of joy. Thank you for your consideration and please keep doing what you do everyday. My best,Oh, Eric! We are so sorry that you and your family have lost wonderful Payton. What a face! Thanks for letting us know. Keep in touch. This is Dixie a mini Australian Shepherd whose human had to move to assisted living. Dixie will be fostered by one of our amazing volunteers until we have room for her at the main house. We are full up and need to get some of our senior dogs a furever home!Dixie looks like a great dog! It's great to hear from you, too, Jewells. Geddy, who's been here before with her two dobie girlfriends, diagnosed with lymphoma. At age 12 we couldn't bear to put her through chemo so we're making her comfortable with short walks in the snow, laying in the sun, a few drugs and lots of protein. Lots of pets and spoiling. She's pretty mobile but getting lumpy lymphnodes. We have a vet on call if she needs to cross the rainbow in the next couple months. She's had a great spoiled life. S.Lynn in IdahoWe have loved seeing photos if Geddy with her girlfriends, and are so sad to hear about her diagnosis. Glad she's getting special treatment at home. Let us know how she and her girlfriends are doing. Buddy in for his annual checkpoint. Not particularly enthusiastic.Buddy is a Good Boy. This is Harley. We got him when my 93 year old mother in law could no longer care for him. He is a hoot, and a lap monster. He loves getting pets and naps. Sometimes I call him goofball.Harley looks kinda serious, for a goofball. Beautiful cat. Greetings! This is Rebel the Dog! He is an American Staffordshire Terrier, who just turned 9 years old. He is a Very Good Boy and I'm very proud of him. He was on "pet friends" a couple years ago and I'm hoping you can find space for him once more. He loves going for walks, truck rides, chasing balls and squirrels, cuddling on the couch, barking at the neighbor dogs and playing with his friends at Little River Pet Resort! Like all "Staffies", he is a Mover. I think I've worn out 9 pairs of boots since he was a pup! Three miles a day is an easy day, 4 miles is a good day and he's kept me on the move! Actually, I thank the Good Lord for trusting me with one of HIS creatures and we work hard keeping him safe! He WILL chase a deer at least a mile! So a GPS tracker is a good plan! I've been a long time lurker and sometime commenter for years.....going by Rick 554. Thanks for the "pet friends", makes every Saturday a Good one! Rick554!It's clear that Rebel really keeps you going! Free to good home:
13 week old border collie/heeler mix. Barely used, like new. Joking... Buckley is doing well, doubled his body weight. Eager to learn and very food motivated. Main issue is the nipping/biting of my kids. He's ripped a few clothing items. I have actually rearranged my work schedule to work from home every afternoon so I can get him through puppyhood. I've written the beginning of the ending of my planned children's book Paisley Poirot Doggie Detective.
It ends in Heaven which is a land of bright blue skies and green grass and trees and rabbits to change, minus bloody fangs. She is welcomed home by a slim, energetic blonde woman with a glorious laugh. Paisley doesn't know her but knows they belong together. Some very cute pets, very touching story about the favorite stair. Also some choice humorous content.
Anyone ever watch that tv show Lucky Dog? Afternoon, pet folken,
Harley the blue cat looks quite noble in that profile pic. As for keeping or maintaining something that belonged to an animal buddy: I still have the stoneware bowl labeled "Kitty" that was Arizona the late part-Maine Coon's food or water bowl, depending on which one I put in it first. It is copyrighted 1985 by Lillian Vernon; probably Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 ordered it from the catalog then. It's been serving other cats since AZ passed on in '99. Beyond that, I have still his little stuffed Pegasus toy. Originally it was Mrs. W.'s as a girl. Then AZ seized on it, would carry it in his mouth like a rat, and play with it on the sly for years when he thought I wasn't looking. the other cats don't care about it; I have no idea how to clean it; and it's still on my bookcase. As for my incumbents, the Killer Kittens From Outer Space: Stirling the big black medium-hair slept with me during my nap. Little Dagny La Siberienne is filling out, her coat much bushier than when she arrived here, her frame larger -- and she is displaying more "amber," i.e., tan, in her brownish-gray coat.
Both are calming down into adulthood; they'll be two years old in March. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 27, 2024 04:33 PM (omVj0) 37

A buddy of mine, we were all over for a big meal. Gonna be a beef brisket among other things. Well his britney spaniel decided the whole damn thing was more his style and somehow broad jumped the kitchen onto the counter where it was “resting” when no one was looking.

39 The brisket story is funny. I'm pretty sure that most who have had even slightly agile pets, would be able to relate stories of food unceremoniously savaged, maybe not whole-brisket portions though .....

lin-duh, what's happening that he's biting the kids?
Posted by: Ben Had ---- He kind of always has. He's playing but using his razor sharp teeth so they stay upstairs in their rooms and he doesn't see them often. When he does see them he gets excited and the cycle starts again. He'll grab their pants/sleeves and sometimes rip holes. He's wearing a house lead now so I can control him more. He's good with me 😁 The hardest part is training everyone else in the house. Posted by: lin-duh at January 27, 2024 05:09 PM (K2iv3) 47
Yay Pet Thread! Yay Moronimals, present & passed.
Nothing much to report on the critter front here at Rancho Webworker. Daisy Dog makes sure we go for a walk first thing every morning, even if my legs don't want to. Ony Cat would like to be fed first, but, lately, she always wants to be fed. Have been using the shock collar on Daisy when we have visitors, trying to train her not to jump on folks. Haven't actually used the zap feature, just the vibrate or beep, with voice command. Seems to be working. She's pretty smart. SIT is the most useful command. Once the dog will do that consistently on command you can get their attention for other things.
