If you are dealing with ice, the best thing I have found to date is to sprinkle crushed limestone on a walkway. It is sold as something to put on slick dairy floors, but I buy it to add to the garden like lime. It really works on ice as long as the ice is not melting and re-freezing

You do not mention year model. If it uses a bi-metal blinker mechanism, it may be failing, but not so much that additional current will not make it work. More likely, the blinker mechanism for 4-way flashers is a seperate piece.
Either way, it should be easily changeable.

Are you referring to the dash tell-tale, or the actual lamp on the front corner of the car?
Assuming the latter, first test or replace the bulbs. Swap LF bulb with RF bulb, and see if the problem follows the bulb, or is confined to the bulb location. If it follows the bulb, then the bulb is at fault. Rarely, they can fail shorted; one filament burns out near the end, and droops down and welds onto the other filament, causing a cross-connection between the signal function and the park/tail function. But more common is a bad ground on one of the sockets. Least likely? The signal switch itself.

Good point! Some vehicles, like my '88 Chevy pickup, have two flashing bulbs in the tail light housings, and one in the park lamp housing. If one or both of the rear bulbs burn out, the single remaining bulb in the front may not pull enough juice to make the flasher work.
Get a helper to work the signal switch, and do a walk-around of the vehicle while helper works the signal switch, lighting switch, and brake pedal, and not any anomalies. Left turn, right turn, brakes not applied. Left turn, right turn, brakes applied. Repeat both with lighting switch in both "park" and "headlights" settings, too. That should disclose bad grounds.

I will go out on a limb, and say it absolutely can be fixed. It might be something really trivial, like a cotter pin falling out of the linkage rod, or it could be a busted weld where the shift sector attaches to the manual shaft in the transmission. Even that should not necessitate removing the transmission, unless you have a weirdly-built car.
If the dealer cannot do it, or quotes a ridiculous price, contact an independent shop. Even a shade-tree mechanic should be able to fix this, maybe with parts from a wrecking yard.

Not quite 150k miles. I started it up, went to put it in drive, then nothing.
I am not very mechanically inclined, and even if it costs several thousand to fix it's better than going in the hole to replace it. While I was at the dealership I saw F-150s going from $75k to $100k.

Well, I upgraded my router, hell did a swap of the same model with upgraded OpenWRT software (I did this so as not to lose internet for too long for Miley's sake).
I decided to try to play around and set the MAC address and DUID shit, and lo and behold, I succeeded. No hash change. ISP came me the same IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and prefixes.

Does the shift lever feel "normal", or does it have no feel at all? Looked it up! The Escape uses a shift cable, and they are known to break. Part can be bought from Amazon for about 50 dollars. To have the job done by a competent shop should not run more than 300 dollars, parts and labor.

The park pawl in the automatic was never intended to hold the car on a steep grade. Mostly, they do it OK, but when the park pawl is heavily loaded by the car's weight on a grade, it takes a lot of force to release it, and that places an undue burden on the shifter cable. Make a habit of applying the parking brake before shifting into Park.

The dealership is about the most expensive place to get work done on an out-of-warranty vehicle. Don't be surprised when they try to upsell you on a whole bunch of other work (that you might possibly even need). If you can find a local independent shop with a good reputation, I'd suggest you try them for future work.

Alas... The tow truck operator was a Latino and his English was about as good as my Spanish and neither of us would shut up, LOL. I have a local mechanic I like a lot but he stays booked up weeks in advance and no place to store cars overnight without an appointment. So, I figured the dealer would possibly a) have the part and b) have space on the lot. At least the tow was insured by AAA.

If the dealer is honest, you should be out of there for under 500 dollars. Dealer labor rates are darned high, but they do have the parts. If the dealer claims you need an entire transmission, get the car hauled to another shop, stat. The tow truck operator probably has a brother or cousin who could fix it in his back yard.

Yes JQ, it's a heat wave here in IL. Today it got up to 16. Much nicer than yesterday's high of 0 and the day before the high was -2. Monday the low was -19, actual temp not wind chill.

Watching an endurance sportscar race on YTube. It's at the F1 track in Barcelona. They are playing the national anthems of Spain and Catalonia. One of the fiddle players is quite fetching. Dark hair, dark eyes, she has the whole sultry, Iberian Peninsula thing going. I like it.

Good news from my doctor: My A1C is way down, 5.8, almost normal. Turns out that what I've been doing the last three months is pretty much the definition of a keto diet -- meat, fish, chicken, vegetables, a little fruit and some whole grain carbs, no junk food and very little sugar. Who knew.
