46 It's 12 degrees here and my home heat has decided to flake out. It runs, but only for so long, then just shuts off....the thermostat still says heat on but the heater isn't running. It WAS letting me just turn the heat off at the thermostat for a spell, then turn it back on and it would start back up. Now, I have to go into the attic and turn the main power off to the unit, then back on. THEN it fires back up for a bit.

Have been up babysitting it since 3:30 am....and will have to do that until the main board replacement shows up TOMORROW......

Trump's attack won't work, as Vivek smartly laid immunizing groundwork with his early, good-faith support of Trump. If DeSantis had poured love on Trump and run as a more effective MAGA candidate (which Vivek as implicitly done, explaining in detail how he'll drain the swamp), things would be different. Vivek has run the smartest primary campaign in a long time.

120 I don't know that Iowa will clarify much. Christie already dropped out. If the top 3 are NOT Trump DeSantis Haley (in whatever order) whoever is odd man out drops out. But that seems highly unlikely.

Vivek is self funded and lean he can keep running for a while regardless of placement through say SC. If he doesn't finish better than 4th by then he's probably out.

Little. His main maneuvering space will be the same as it was last time, though more restrained than it was then because there's more time to build bulwarks against him. The same three areas:
- Foreign policy (which will be much more muted this time)
- The border (where they will let him be moderately successful, so as to ride his coattails while publicly saying he's evil and simultaneously taking credit for the upsides)
- Trade (probably the least constrained in fact)

The rest will keep on keeping on, under even greater opposition and outright rejection of orders - just like Afghanistan last time.

The presidency is essentially a false prize, which is why I don't really care anymore. I'm hoping that Abbot kicks off a full-blown nullification crisis by ignoring the inevitable injunction that comes down over his eviction of federal officers from the border areas he's taken over with state forces. If he does that, it will set a much more valuable theme than some titular office in a Washington, DC mansion.

If they're executive branch, he does. Congress might not like it, and would probably try to impeach him, but there it is. Only thing is for agencies that were created by acts of Congress; I *believe* he care fire the people, but might be more work to shut those agencies down.

Of course. It is always thus. It's why we haven't won a war since 1945.

The best anyone can hope for is that political and military objectives align with the interests of the United States. In this case, it does because protecting trading routes is ultimately what undergirds all US power and influence - including the use of the Dollar for international settlements (which, while under attack, is still very much the general status quo for the time being). A lot rides on the existential basis of American power, and the powers that be need to not fuck it up too badly if they're going to maintain their own positions and power.

Whether they manage it successfully is entirely another story.

By rumor, it's happened before. Biden was allegedly the person who convinced Obama to not have Osama bin Laden assassinated for a while, and that continued until ValJar allegedly grabbed him by the lapels in the Situation Room and ordered him to give the damn order to grease OBL.

Always a bit of wishcasting on what a future winner may achieve, but DeSantis did not have a strong GOP legislature. It was a purple squish of a legislature. He fixed that, did the behind the scenes hard work to make it MAGA, and cleaned up voting roles such that the GOP won Dade country.

Could he do that nationally? Excellent question. We know Trump already failed at it.

IDK but I'd be cautious about Black voting, particularly when it comes to women holding one or more degrees, no matter how pointless (im or our opinions.) I've been stunned by some of the 'political' debates, especially concerning abortion & voting rights, I've had with well educated BFs, highly involved with their Christian churches, the LWVs (a watch item for sure), rotary clubs, etc. But maybe they're much like the Main Line ladies of fine schooling who sought law and/or PhD degrees years ago only because they weren't yet 'committed.'

They became the yoga pantsed, ballet bar moms who, once the kiddies were grown, went full bore into women's rights, social justice, etc. as their own kids also did their privileged things.
