The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"They were also giving me dirty looks throughout the whole flight."
Unnamed 22 year old woman

Quote II

“I am astounded that given the failure of U.S. policy in Sudan, including the 13 attempts to stymie the fighting that have produced no results, that Ambassador Godfrey would be selected for the award for Outstanding Leadership in Expeditionary Diplomacy,”
Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL)

Quote III

“Look, the president has pardon power and pardon authority — I think that it’s a very important piece that people ought to consider when they’re thinking about for whom they’re going to vote.Someone who says that they would pardon individuals who assaulted the Capitol, who attempted to stop a constitutional process, who assaulted police officers – I mean, it was a bloody battle.” Former Rep. Liz Cheney (RINO-WY)

Sen. Richard Head Durbin (D-IL) is such a brilliant public servant. To show extremism you have to cover extremism. How about letting both views out and sunshine will disinfect the rhetoric?

Top Democratic senator says Biden should 'think twice' before agreeing to debate Trump: 'It's just an opportunity for him to display his extremism'

As Democrats look toward an expected rematch between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden later this year, some are warning that agreeing to debates are a bad idea.

"I would think twice about it," Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the second-highest ranking Democratic senator, recently told The Hill. "It's just an opportunity for him to display his extremism."

If the step-father is guilty. I would like to know how he thought he was going to end up unscathed.

"Texas Dad Shoots Daughter Stepfather after Learning of Abuse

A Texas father did what many dads in his position would do after learning that his daughter had been abused.

On Friday, a Houston dad discovered that his young daughter was sexually abused by her 30-year-old stepfather.

By 8:30 pm that same evening, the father had put three bullets in the stepdad.

When you play with fire, don't expect everyone to be happy.

Tanya Chutkan, the judge overseeing Trump's federal election interference case, appears to be victim of 'swatting'
Police and fire trucks responded to reports of a shooting at Chutkan's home, but police determined no shooting had taken place.

WASHINGTON — Police and fire trucks showed up Sunday night at the house of Tanya Chutkan, the federal judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s election interference case after she appeared to be the target of an attempted "swatting" attack.

Police confirmed to NBC News that they responded to false reports of a shooting at a house that a witness identified as Chutkan's home. A law enforcement official also confirmed that it was Chutkan’s home and that she was home when police arrived at her residence.

A police report obtained by NBC News said that officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call just after 10 p.m. ET that referenced a shooting that occurred at the location. Once authorities arrived at the scene, an unnamed subject said she "was not injured and that there was no one in her home."

It wasn't that long ago when I enjoyed an occasional icy drink with a plastic straw. But that was then. It Turns Out Paper Straws Might Pose a Serious Problem Too

Paper straws are not quite the eco solution many had hoped for. Not only do these liquid slurping alternatives tend to wilt in a frustratingly fast manner, they contain low levels of forever chemicals, according to new research.

How that impacts the health of an individual slurper is unknown, but because forever chemicals – also known as poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (aka PFAS) -- can take centuries to break down to a fraction of their concentration in the environment, these straws are not necessarily 'biodegradable'.

In fact, scientists at the University of Antwerp in Belgium argue that some plant-based and 'eco-friendly' alternatives to plastic may be silently contributing to PFAS pollution.

When researchers tested 39 different straw brands made from plastic, paper, glass, bamboo, or stainless steel, they found PFAS in almost all the materials.

Stainless steel was the only consistent exception.

If you see Bluebell with a stainless steel straw, behave yourself.

I guess this wanker hasn't been to the Folsom Street Fair.

Picture the scene: you’re waiting at the tube station, about to start a long day of work. You’re tired, you’re cold, you’re annoyed because it’s the first week of January and you’ve picked up the weekend shift. All you want to do is find a seat and listen to your podcast when the doors open and… what’s this? Why can I see that man’s underwear? Why can I see everyone’s underwear?

Don’t worry, your brain hasn’t been irreparably broken by the holiday season. It’s just London’s weirdest annual tradition: the No Trousers Tube Ride. No, I’m not joking.

Taking inspiration from a similar phenomenon which takes place every year on the New York subway, the No Trousers Tube Ride is an annual event that began in 2009 and is exactly what it sounds like. Every year, on a day in early January, groups of Londoners collectively agree to ride the Underground sans trousers. They don’t do anything special – the goal is to act as normal as possible, with the only difference being that their legs (and underwear) are on full display for all the world to see.

Sorry east coasters, my Give-A-Darn-Meter is broken.

East Coast land continues to collapse at a worrying rate
It's steadily sinking or subsiding, which is destabilizing levees, roads, and airports.

Unless you’re sinking into quicksand, you might assume that the land beneath your feet is solid and unmoving. In actual fact, your part of the world may well be undergoing “subsidence,” which is where the ground collapses as sediments settle or when people over-extract groundwater. New York City is sinking, too, due to the weight of all those buildings pushing on the ground. In extreme cases, like in California’s agriculturally intensive San Joaquin Valley, elevations have plummeted not by inches, but by dozens of feet.

Last year, scientists reported that the US Atlantic Coast is dropping by several millimeters annually, with some areas, like Delaware, notching figures several times that rate. So just as the seas are rising, the land along the eastern seaboard is sinking, greatly compounding the hazard for coastal communities.

The following phrase, “I support Hamas, you f–king Jew,” was not uttered in Gaza. It was spewed on the hardwood floor of a basketball court in NYC.

NY girls HS basketball game canceled after antisemitic slurs hurled at players

This was flagrant and foul.

A high school girls’ basketball game in Yonkers was canceled this week when players on the home team shot antisemitic slurs at their Jewish opponents, who needed security guards to escort them off the court to safety.

The girls’ varsity teams from the Leffell School, a private Jewish school in Hartsdale, and Roosevelt High School, a public school in Yonkers, faced off in the non-league game Thursday evening.

“I support Hamas, you f–king Jew,” a Roosevelt player snarled at a Leffell opponent, according to the New York City Public Schools Alliance, a group of parents and teachers fighting antisemitism.

I saw the following article and I knew I had to check this man's background. Of course anyone who writes, " ‘2024 Is the Year of Elections and That’s a Threat to Democracy’ was written by a Poison Ivy Leaguer. In this case Mr. Harshaw is a 1988 Princeton University grad with a Bachelor's degree, Art History/American.

Bloomberg: Elections Are a Threat to Democracy.
With over 40 elections set for the United States, United Kingdom, and a host of other nations in 2024, U.S. corporate media giant Bloomberg is questioning whether inviting regular citizens to vote for representative governments really serves “democracy”. In an article by Tobin Harshaw, a Bloomberg opinion editor who previously edited the opinion section at for The New York Times, readers are warned that ‘2024 Is the Year of Elections and That’s a Threat to Democracy’.

Polite Chicago Carjacker Becomes Even More Polite As Victim Returns to Put Him At Gunpoint

Chicago Police solve precious few carjackings. Once in a while they will catch bad guys behind the wheel of “jacked rides,” then charge them with Criminal Trespass To Motor Vehicle (CTTV). Why? Because Cook County’s prosecutor Kim Foxx views violent criminals as “victims.” However, earlier this week, CPD got their carjacker. In fact, the only thing that 18-year-old Darrius Berry didn’t have when police arrived was a bow on top of his sorry head.

__________

The appalling sight presented was harrowing in the extreme. Our own killed were scattered over a large space near the "angle," while in front of the captured breastworks the enemy's dead, vastly more numerous than our own, were piled upon each other in some places four layers deep, exhibiting every ghastly phase of mutilation. Below the mass of fast-decaying corpses, the convulsive twitching of limbs and the writhing of bodies showed that there were wounded men still alive and struggling to extricate themselves from the horrid entombment. Every relief possible was afforded, but in too many cases it came too late. The place was well named the "Bloody Angle." - Horace Porter, "Campaigning with Grant"

52 So they say the Biden national Park service has already reversed course and will not remove the William Penn statue. I hope this is true and nothing changes in the next day or so so this is actually a true statement.

There must’ve been an extreme backlash, in my opinion, there should’ve been even more of one. My guess is mini shrugged because the left always gets away with this. But it looks like the good guys won and a bunch of people did respond very quickly and all at once and it seems that is what actually makes a difference in these things.

It remind me of an issue that came up 20 years ago when a local paper was going to print the names of anyone who had a concealed handgun permit in that region. People got really pissed really quick, but even more importantly they got organized and went after sponsors of that paper and they did it not later but right then. The end result was complete victory for the good guys, and it happened very quickly. I think both cases are good examples of how we can win when it seems like the left wins most of the time in the culture wars.

The park service had shut down much of that site also for remodeling and they were planning to make a ton of changes the park service ranger that was there told me they were going to reinterpret everything Bashley and really bash everything they could about America this isn’t about Lee in the Civil War. It was they were trying to just Cause pain and disillusion at every turn. So the William Penn statue thing is not a one off this is a planned thing.

I personally have a lot of respect for the national Park service and you can’t blame these guys when hard-core left just go in and replace good people with hard-core leftist at the top. It’s not about the NPS per se it is about Biden, Obama, and the hard-core left agenda. We get in the ends.

Many federal agencies like the FBI and state department are inherently left, not the NPS in my opinion.

129 81, but Pennsylvania gave us hard-core Republicans Specter, you have to give them that lol. Look anyone that has visited Pennsylvania for an extended time knows James Carville was right, it is Pittsburgh to the west Philadelphia to the east and Alabama in the middle. The most hard-core Trump supporters I have ever met or seen were in Pennsylvania.

I think messing with Gettysburg if they actually do, it would be the final straw. Unlike Philadelphia and Arlington, Virginia, the Civil War is the economic lifeblood of Gettysburg Pennsylvania. And everyone there knows for some weird reason southern visitors are an outside group.

Don’t quote me on the numbers but in a general stance there are something like 180 monuments that Gettysburg to northern units or people. Only one person from the south has a monument at Gettysburg. It is James Longstreet, and it is the most recent monument place there. There are 13 state monuments for confederate states and for the south that’s about it. so it’s 180 to maybe 15?

I don’t doubt they will try to do that at Gettysburg. I’m just saying that is the last place that is going to give up Civil War monuments. It is not just history to them it

If you assume the government exists to do all the things it claims to do - in this case use diplomacy to bring peace and human rights to Sudan - then no none of this makes sense.

But that is not the goal of the US government or the people in it. Almost certainly Godfrey got this award because he bribed the right people with government dollars in "legal" ways and made the right alliances within government circles.

And everything within the government is like this.

Quick way to find subsiding basins - look for where rivers run to the sea. Not always the case, but usually. The Delaware basin is a fascinating one - what is sinking is the remains of a large impact crater from 35 million years ago, which is now about 500 meters beneath the lands surface. When you see articles saying "sea rise of 1 foot in Chesapeake Bay" it actually means the sea stayed the same, and the land sank another foot.

173 I watched Williamson interview Alex O'Connor again and I see the guy's appeal. He's sort of the anti-Jordan Peterson. He's an atheist nihilist, but like Peterson he has calm, reasoned debate with those that disagree with him and seems to legitimately try to reach common ground.

A couple of things that stood out...he found the strongest argument for Theism to be the design argument - that everything in the universe had to be structured in just the right way to yield intelligent life. The converse argument to this - that its random chance he compared to - imagine an elite group of knife throwing assassins attack you, and at the end of the attack they don't hit you but have traced your outline on the wall behind you. It defies belief that this was not done on purpose...

He also mentioned that the Resurrection is something that gives him pause. People willing to die swearing they saw the resurrected Jesus? People don't die to hold a lie. And many, many people in groups say they saw him. So either Jesus came back from the dead, or many, many people had collective mass hallucinations. He holds the latter unlikely but...more likely then the former.

188 Oh one other point from the Williamson-O'Connor interview.

O'Connor had a debate with Ben Shapiro. If I'm understanding how it went based on O'Connor's comments, he mostly agreed that life would be better if people collectively were theists of Shapiro's stripe, but still argued that Theism just isn't true. As he put it, maybe life would be better for everyone if I just taught my kids in God but...am I supposed to lie to them?

And this part I find fascinating because I think it gets into an undeniable fact of modern life. As the west has stepped away from God it has gotten meaner, crueler, and more vile. If you are a theist the answer is obvious. But how does an atheist answer this...is it just a coincidence?

And O'Connor spent some time arguing that maybe the decent of our culture isn't because of our stepping away from religion, but that the same force that is moving us away from religion is also making us more vile...maybe its technology? Or...comfort? Or...something?

But this seems a sidestep to me. And I noticed when questioned along a similiar line Sam Harris, probably the most prominent atheist proponent, also had no answer...

But in Newsom's case, or that football player that almost died from the clot shot, I suspect they got a nurse that followed the warm instructions to the letter...

I'm inclined to agree. Swatting is a lefty tactic. This swatting was the classic false flag so as to blame MAGA. The swatting was done so they could use 'whataboutism'. 'See, icky conservatives do it, too!'

We are entering dangerous civil war II territory if we have states removing candidates then those states results are not certified with the end result being a president who wins the electoral college 115-88. That'll work out well for us.

But exactly how much did they find?
"researchers detected PFAS, although the concentrations were fairly low and varied quite a lot between products."

In other words insignificant amounts. Today we can detect chemicals at concentrations that are 10,000 times smaller than 50 years ago. Think what that means. For example, I bet all those straws would have tested positive for arsenic but at such a low concentration as to be negligible.

Life is a terminal disease.

It was brutal; household against household, valley against valley; it's estimated that 1/3 of the entire population of Missouri was killed or driven out during that war, the worst of any state, and mostly by them making war on each other. There's a reason this is where Quantrill's Raiders came from, but the rest of the story is that Federal allied militias were often even worse. "Outlaw Josey Wales" starts in the remains of Missouri.

248 Played with batteries today. Opened up one of the 20-volt batteries for my Harbor Freight drill. Five 18650 lithium-ion cells. It was fully-charged. I have a little multimeter with a 10-amp current range on it. Each of those 5 cells was able to put out 10 amps, maybe more. Didn't keep the probes on for more than a second, of course. I put the battery back together. Seems its capacity is down a little, but not so much as to make the battery useless. But I did buy a new battery of the same model for 29 bucks. Should keep the drill going until it wears out.

And I replaced the two AAA-size NiMH cells in my old Remington electric shaver, with a pair bought from the hardware store for 9 bucks. Soldered them into the little board. Motor runs; currently charging it. The old batteries were plum shot.

The Biden Administration is set to finalize its "Independent Contractor" rule. The rule is modeled on Newsom and Julie Su's infamous AB 5 law. This is the most troubling example yet of California's disastrous policies going national. The livelihoods of millions of Americans are now at risk.
With a single stroke of Newsom’s pen in 2019, AB 5 rendered countless independent professionals unable to earn a living in our state. Writers, interpreters, court reporters, musicians, language pathologists, photographers, forensic nurses, and people in literally hundreds of other industries were told they were no longer allowed to practice their profession and serve their clients as they’d been doing their whole careers.
Turning AB 5 into national policy, as Biden is set to do, will multiply these losses. An economic analysis by the Chamber of Progress shows the full-time or part-time jobs of between 3.2 and 3.8 million independent contractors could be lost – equivalent to roughly half the jobs lost in the Great Recession.
As soon as it is finalized, I will be introducing legislation to repeal the Biden Administration's rule under the Congressional Review Act.

“I’m going to talk about it tomorrow on the show. Tune in,” Rodgers responded Monday when asked if he had any regrets.

Did you know.... that nuclear weapons aren't real? Yes, that's right, all the people that could see the tests in the desert were wrong, Japan went along for the lulz, several nations around the world are in on it....

328 Hey JQ!

Woke up early with some shoulder pain. Looked outside and saw the snow has started. Was hoping the weather forecast was going to be wrong, but it's looking like it's gonna happen

Posted by: My Life is Insanity at January 09, 2024 02:02 AM (EYvWG)

329 JQ, I am doing okay, got our first storm yesterday, didn't amount to much. It forced me into survival mode though, which is a good thing for me.

340 Apparently my phone case is the one thing the cats cannot stop rubbing against. I can't decide if it's because my scent is on it, it makes a good rubbing surface, or both.

Posted by: My Life is Insanity at January 09, 2024 02:23 AM (EYvWG)

342 Pookysgirl-- do you have a rubbery phone case? Maybe the cats like the resistance of it, like getting brushed.

I once had a cat what *loooovvved* brushing so much, all I had to do was hold the brush and she would rubby against it to her little heart's content. So amusing.

Posted by: JQ at January 09, 2024 02:24 AM (njWTi)

343 Lucky likes his whiskers rubbed. He uses such force. He can push my phone out of my hand. Tiny cat. Only 8 lbs. But strong! And a loud purr-er
Actually not tiny. Tall and lanky. Just lightweight!

357 Cat is such a lone, swaggering, king- of-the- yard Dude.. not especially cuddly, but has his moments.

He's a 'w*rking cat' and does the j*b well-- kills his fair share of mice & rats, an occasional bird-- but also is appreciative of his Kibbles and Treats from us.

Not really fond of being 'petted' and *hates* being picked up, but likes some chin-skritches. He likes to be in the same room, especially if we ignore him. Such a weirdo.

358 Maddeningly, SCOTUS has repeatedly refused to slap down Illinois for its clearly unconstitutional ban on "assault rifles". Is it because SCOTUS fears Biden's Tyranny is going to push people beyond their breaking point? And start using said weapons?

None taken. Illinois is a corrupt state, hemorrhaging population, losing police. and Cook County/Chicago is the center of it. This lousy government has done everything in its power to leep weapons unobtainable. But, as always, it's usually not the gun owners who pass a background check shooting up the place.
