Well, that's a good start for the day. Evening and morning to all the peeps. 'Tis 46 F. outdoors and chilly-damp and I'm trying to muster the nerve to go work out. I haven't gone since Monday; Wednesday was rainy; and I probably won't go tomorrow.
Kittens are good and I slept decently last night. Maybe laying off the Sweet 'n' Low for my coffee has helped with, uh, hydraulic pressures; I was up only once at some point, and got back to sleep after (dreaming about meeting with a realtor to discuss what I want in a house). Fen, half my family (either side) are Catholic. Half are Protestant. Many prods are also Freemasons. P's off the C side....
Ugh. But a few have managed to simply unite in Christ, which is what I believe is the Best Way to deal. Others... just so judgmental. Sad. My uncle was *so devout* in his Catholicism, that when Dad asked him to be Best Man at his & Mom's wedding, uncle said he'd need to obtain some kind of Dispensation from The Church (because Mom & Dad were not Catholic)... what a PITA. So, Dad said "never mind" and asked a cousin instead. No problemo! Posted by: JQ at January 05, 2024 05:41 AM (njWTi) 50

I have paw paw trees and produce a few 5-gallon pails per year. They do keep well for more than a few days, perhaps a few days +1. This year I discovered how to extract the pulp from the skin and seeds with very good recovery. I have a 5-gallon carboy filled with pulp, but it is not separating and I may have to get very creative with what comes out in the end. Next year I will freeze dry the pulp and it will be shelf stable. Perhaps to be made into smoothies or paw paw pies.

We don't usually have music at weddings except for organ prelude and postlude. Although sometimes services have hymns but the marriage hymns are less well known I did know of one clergyman who had a couple request " She's always a woman to me" which is So NOT a good song to have at a wedding.

My wedding was kinda embarrassing. My wife was a Catholic schoolteacher who also taught CCD (different name now), and ran the Girl Scout program (which she switched to something else). She handed out invites to the service to all the youngsters, who needed parents to bring them. 'Her' side of the church? Filled from front row to last, easily 500 people. My side? Maybe 50. Candlelight service with mass that took hours. Then the reception line for everyone which took another 36 hours. Posted by: Divide by Zero at January 05, 2024 06:04 AM (3qE2b) 67

Bride & Groom were *not* Catholic
Posted by: JQ at January 05, 2024 05:56 AM (njWTi) Here's the deal- and no one is going to like this, so sorry in advance... Catholics are not supposed to actively take part in the worship services of other bodies, because they do not have the fullness of Truth, which resides in the Church, from its institution by Our Lord. Though, as per right now and at numerous times in the past, it can be obscured for a while by bad actors. Because while the Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic, it is also here on Earth full of people with free will who respond, or not, to grace in varying degrees. So while we can appreciate the good things that other denominations have retained from the Church and the good well-meaning people in them, we are sad for the lack of what they have lost. We just want everyone to come home. Posted by: sal: tolle adversarium et afflige inimicum at January 05, 2024 06:27 AM (fDjFn) 89

Honest question.
Now that I realized that the SC Democratic Primary is less than 30 days from now, what happens if between that Primary and say..April or so, Biden is no longer eligible to remain on the ballot? And if the Left wants to challenge Biden, do they have less than 30 days to do so? Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 05, 2024 06:38 AM (hH3Px) 95
I understand the theology behind not taking the Eucharist and I'm not getting into debates about it except to say that I am privileged and blessed to officiate at our version of communion and I am glad that I can invite anyone who believes is Jesus as Lord and Savior to the Table. We have been having communion every week for months and the folks appreciate it.
Have to go now. Have a good day, everyone and keep on praying and counting your blessings! Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 05, 2024 06:39 AM (RSbhh) 96

True statement. But I was wondering about what they could legally do. Seems to me that trying to Primary Biden after the first Primary election in the nation takes place would be a little bit iffy. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 05, 2024 06:42 AM (hH3Px) 98
Oh I am not talking about not going to the service, I was just relaying what I was taught specifically about communion. I was always taught that it was fine to attend and even participate to a degree, but communion was a no no. Also, that attending these services did not count toward days of obligation except in the case that no Catholic option was available.

mornin yall. A strange local story, at old mall, now the home of world class Pickleball courts. There is a line of pallets, 100 feet long and 5 feet high, that contain boxes of expired hand sanitizer left over from 2020. They can't put it in a dumpster so the city will have to pay a company to dispose of it. The Covid scam is still costing us money just to get rid of hand sanitizer that we were scammed to buy in the first place.

I am curious about the 3rd Annual January 6th Memorial Speech.
No one cares, which I think it part of it. They have to keep reminding people it happened and pretending it was something big and dangerous, especially now that the videos have been released of people just quietly walking around and cops scrolling facebook on their phones in between giving directions to people quietly walking around. I think a big part of it isn't reminding Americans that it happened, but reminding the wrong people not to think about peacefully protesting again. Also the attempt at "othering" of course, but that really only works if you governed well and didn't manage to screw every single thing up. That ship has sailed. Come in and do great? Yeah, you could other those MAGA folks like crazy. As it is, non-MAGA people are MAGA curious now because they remember 2016-2020. - I'd suggest adding the pulp to store-bought apple, grape, etc. juice (make sure to buy bottles with no additional ingredients except citric acid) in different proportions. And be sure to write down your recipe for each bottle. You don't even need bubblers to narrow it down to a decent starter recipe. I don't use balloons but just barely loosen the tops and monitor for the end of fermentation. ebay.com/itm/266390922629 They're interesting cards. 16gb and performance out the yin-yang, but the drivers might not always be as up to date as Nvidia and support for older games might be lacking. The big question is if it's worth the additional $200+ for the other cards. I don't know the details but apparently if it's paired with a newer Intel processors they work together to do certain tasks *extremely* quickly. Deep Work or something? PA is projected to get anywhere from 1-80 inches. So it will probably not snow at all.

Kids are what you want them to be. They watch your every move. They learn from what they see. They are what you want them to see, since what they see is what they learn as what is. Sure, there are exceptions, but it's the rule, mostly. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Joe Biden at January 05, 2024 08:04 AM (Zz0t1) 211

New research by investment bank TD Cowen seen by AppleInsider estimates that Apple’s loss of earnings because of China are considerable, and in part are behind its suppliers moving, or reshoring, to other countries.
“Over the last four years since the start of the pandemic, we estimate Apple’s revenues have been impacted by over $30 billion,” says TD Cowen in the note. This comes from “undersupplying the market due to production disruptions stemming from component supply, available labor pool, and/or government-mandated movement restrictions.” Posted by: SMOD at January 05, 2024 09:08 AM (RHGPo) 218
