The Saturday Night Joke

I came across this today. It made me smile. I hope it does for you as well.

Scouring the internet for content I'm always striving to give. The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM

Napping in the afternoon can improve memory and alertness – here’s why

Some people swear by an afternoon nap – whether it’s to catch up on lost sleep or to help them feel more alert for the afternoon ahead. Even Boris Johnson supposedly favours a power nap during his work day (though the prime minister’s staffers contest this claim). Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, and Leonardo Da Vinci were all famous nappers.

Is the following "Pie in the sky" wishful thinking, or has more evidence been found concerning DB Cooper.

MICROSCOPIC evidence gleaned from a clip-on tie left behind by DB Cooper during his infamous skyjacking proves the mysterious crook's links to a specialty metals facility, an independent investigator claims.

On November 24, 1971, a man who would become known as DB Cooper hijacked Northwest Airlines Flight 305 and parachuted out of the plane at 10,000 feet with $200,000 strapped to his waist.

The ONT Musical Interlude & Candle Light Emporium

My how time flies for some. Being only ***29 I know nothing of these LPs. But listening to them they are pretty darn good.

45 Albums Turning 45 in 2024

Frank Zappa, 'Joe's Garage' (Sept. 17, 1979)
Frank Zappa described Joe’s Garage as a “stupid little story about how the government is going to do away with music.” He’d covered the general topic before with his songs and albums. But at nearly two hours in length (released in two installments in September and November), Joe’s Garage went much deeper. The songwriter rejected the idea that one interviewer suggested, that perhaps he was feeling nostalgic for his earlier days with the Mothers of Invention. Still, he recognized his growing profile due to his previous work and high profile appearances, including his performance on Saturday Night Live. “Most people haven't even heard my music. They've just known about my name,” he told High Times in 1980. “I think that this album may change that. They'll hear the music and they'll go back and check out some of the other things.”

On the bright side they didn't name you Richard Shaver.

I was bullied for my unusual name – but I’ve only just found out what it means

Parents – we can’t pick them, but they can pick our names. And some like to get really creative with it.

A man has revealed how his parents named him Tell, as in the verb.

Content creator Tell, who goes by Mr Williamsprek on TikTok, shared his fury at his name.

He explained how he researched his siblings’ names and found them to have beautiful definitions. He has a sister called Amber (meaning jewel or golden colour), another named Natasha (meaning Christmas), and a third called Kimberly (meaning royalty).

With cell phones functioning as cameras and the World Wide Web what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. Genius Award Winner.

A man in Las Vegas allegedly decided to pull off the internet’s new favorite heist with some Modelo and an airplane.

Heist stories aren’t new in Las Vegas. Whether it’s a fictional story like “Ocean’s 11” or a very real story like scamming Circa out of $1 million, crime and Vegas go hand-in-hand. It’s nothing new at all.

However, the latest heist is straight out of a comedy movie. Suspect Damian Zukaitis is accused of stealing a plane from the North Las Vegas airport and landing it in the desert, according to Fox5. He also didn’t just allegedly steal the 2020 Kitfox fixed-wing single-engine type aircraft. He allegedly made sure he had plenty of hydration options.

8 Actress Cindy Morgan, who gained fame in the 1980s for her legendary blond bombshell role in the cult classic film “Caddyshack,” has died at the age of 69, officials said.

Morgan was best known for turning heads as golf club floozy Lacey Underall in the iconic 1980 comedy hit alongside legends Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and Chevy Chase.

16 Vladimir Putin's police state has become so repressive that a popular joke from Soviet times has resurfaced and been repurposed for those Russians today who dare to acknowledge the truth about the autocratic regime they are living under. It tells the story of two FSB (successor of the KGB) agents who are having a beer after work.

The first one, Ivan, says to his colleague, 'Tell me, Dmitry. What do you really think about Putin?' and Dmitry replies, 'The same as you do.' Ivan thinks for a moment and says: 'In that case, it is my duty to arrest you.'

38 That top photo actually greatly resembles the Cigar Lounge aboard the Royal Caribbean "Navigator of the Seas".

It's not, but they're of nearly identical styles and details. You could easily mistake one room, for the other.

Either room would be greatly improved by a rack of Holland & Holland, Purdey and Rigby shotguns and rifles, adorning one or more of the walls.

Nothing reflects "affluent" quite so well as a fully engraved and gold inlaid, $195,000 bespoke Purdey or Holland & Holland shotgun. And the Mauser rifles as produced by Rigby are the stuff of a Dream Safari, indeed.

Once could spend hours in reflection, while enjoying a fine cigar and a glass of worthy spirits.

And the conversations with likeminded friends, would be stellar, to be sure.

73 JackStraw, I was too late to the previous thread.

I tired of listening to Bob + The Wailers after many years of gobbling up everything they ever recorded. I love their stuff, and the tremendous influence they had, but like almost all the Classic Rock I've been steeped in since birth, I grew bored of it.

Thankfully I discovered many newer, even contemporary Reggae artists, who are very prolific today. My favorites, for 2023 anyway:

Stick Figure (by far my favorite, a skinny white guy from Boston who nails the genre, and who is featured on many other current Reggae artists' tracks, too).

Aya Terra. Elovaters. Rebelution. 10ft. Ganja Plant.

KBong. Passafire. Sensi Trails.

And, The Movement. Plug those into Pandora, Spotify, or YouTube, and see where the recommendations lead you.

10 Ft. Ganja Plant has the closest sound to Wailers of them all.

It is a hell of a great story.
And as I've mentioned previously, an equally great story about the Huskies (spits) is their women's softball team. In four years with a bunch of freshmen and JC transfers, they went from a start up team to the final game of the collegiate World Series. Literally to the final inning. Incredible accomplishment.

87 Anybody do anything to commorate the third anniversay of the "J6 Insurrection"?

Apparently the Junta, who succeeded in the coup four months earlier, are expanding the persecution by an order of magnitude and announced they are going after thousands who disobeyed signs not present, "Do Not Walk on the Grass".

As always they will hide any exonerating evidence such as complete fabrication of crimes they are accussed of - such as their awn agents removing the "Stay Off the Grass" signs before anybody ever saw them, and any other clues that literally the most known public building in the country was "closed to the public".

The only thing they 'insurrectionists' can do is wait for the stormtroopers to come for them.

259 There is a restaurant called "The Smoke House" here in Burbank Ca. Right across the street from the Warner Bros. studios and a fixture since 1946. Back in the day, a classic meat and chop house and a hang out for various studio types and movie stars under contract. The luster has faded somewhat these days yet one thing they remain known for is their Garlic Cheese Bread and the off the hook retro dinning room. Great place for steaks, Prime Rib and other nostalgic menu items. The Bar is also a throwback to more "Classy" days.

278 When a C-5, a C-17, a C-130 or the (now retired) C-141, open those back doors and drop the ramp, there is a HUGE HOLE in the plane.

A somewhat aerodynamic hole, to be sure. Quite unlike the fuselage section failures of other planes that've survived such failures.

To be noted. The ONLY jets that I know that have not fully disintegrated and crashed from such failures, ARE Boeing 737s, various versions over the years.

Seems no OTHER jet, has survived such blowouts. Yeah, it's easy to jibe the 737 for the failures.

How 'bout cheering them for when they manage to land safely, after?

There is a "solo" seat right next to the sliding rear door, that I have them take. Ample room right and left, and legroom, too. I'll slide that "shotgun" seat far forward, and put a child or small adult up there, instead.

Though not Orthodox, my dad came up w/my given name & it was associated with Christmas. If I could have one wish, it would be to see my sister again. Anyway...

In keeping with F. Zappa & the earlier Music Thread, I thought about the talented Tim Moore (Wikipedia, if interested) from Philly who did have some connection to Zappa. Moore wrote & sang '2nd Avenue,' quite nice imho. I was going to try to post it but figured I'd f things up as usual.

There's many things wrong with PA aside from Fetterman & Shapiro. The toll has just gone up on the PA Turnpike again! 360 miles long, it's the most expensive toll road in the world. If not bad enough, it also has the highest tax rate on gasoline & the highest tax rate on diesel at $0.741/gallon. (2024 rates, all) Yeah, the transportation costs are murder. BTW, 13 counties are also classified as 'sanctuary' in nature.

Thanks & Nite, all. Lola

From those planes, as well as the C-5 and the C-17, Paratroopers jump FROM rear-side doors, and not the ramp.

Exception being, the '130 or '17, when Special Forces are doing "fancy" jumps, such as jumping with heavy gear such as RIB boats and such, or High Altitude, Low Opening jumps, where the whole team has to jump as a single cluster, and not a "string".

Watch U.S. Army Paratroops jump from USAF C-17s. Side doors. Granted, those are fitted with a perforated Blast Shield and external step, nowdays. But, side doors.

306 The only chance Taiwan has to survive, is if it's military is trained to operate completely independently of Taipei, and go into action in the wee hours *after* the leadership is struck down by the thousands of already-there mainland agents, sown-in by so many "business interests" over the past decade or so.

Otherwise, one day, the Taiwanese will peacefully awaken, only to learn then, that their island Republic has been taken overnight, and subsumed into the People's Republic of China.

All the threat and bluster of the military options, I think, is but the feint and distraction from the true intent of the STRATEGIC thrust.

Won't matter if the infiltrators are wearing Barney Purple.

They're there, and the threat is FROM the "inside".

The Strategic Threat IS "decapitation". Nothing less will do.
