Don't Celebrate the Maine Secretary of State Being Swatted

We learned on Friday that Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows had unilaterally decreed that Donald Trump could not have his name on the primary ballot in her state. The unelected official took the action without any legislative action or court challenge to support it. Less than a day later, her home was swatted, with state police showing up after false reports of a man breaking into Bellows’ home were received. Nothing was found to be amiss and the Secretary of State and her family were not home at the time, so the swatting attempt ended without incident. But that fortunate result doesn’t make this attack harmless or meaningless. (NY Post)

I love President Trump's latest move against the Commie News Network. Fox News Announces Trump Town Hall to Go Head-to-Head with CNN Debate

Former President Donald Trump has agreed to sit for a town hall with Fox News that will air opposite the Republican presidential primary debate next week on CNN.

Fox hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will co-moderate the discussion with the GOP front-runner at an event to be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET Jan. 10 from Des Moines, Iowa, only days before the Iowa caucuses, Fox News reported Tuesday.

That is the same time as the CNN debate.

California equestrian admits to placing $2 million hit on husband, receives less than 4 years in prison

A high-maintenance equestrian previously known for being involved in a multimillion-dollar horse show in San Diego recently admitted to putting a $2 million hit on her husband. She has been sentenced to less than four years in prison for the crime, according to KNSD.

Tatyana Remley, 43, pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder in connection with an attempt to get a mutual friend to murder her husband, Mark Remley. The verdict was determined in Vista Superior Court on Thursday.

What good are gun laws when they aren't prosecuted.

Soft punishment? Sure. But, it is better than no punishment at all.

Sam Bankman-Fried, a Hillary Clinton donor and mega-donor to the Democrat Party, has suddenly had a second trial charging him with unlawful political donations and bribery of foreign officials dropped.

This was after he took part in one of the largest financial collapses in history. The decision to not go after these charges against him comes as a giant surprise to many and critics believe it may have to do with his connections within the Democrat Party.

“Federal prosecutors said Friday that they do not plan to proceed with a second trial against Sam Bankman-Fried, citing public interest in a speedy resolution of the case that has seemingly irritated those who were hoping to see the disgraced FTX founder prosecuted to the fullest extent,” the New York Post reported.

Congressman, those real African children don't count. They are out of sight and out of mind. And since they are not seen or heard, the White Liberal Grifters can push their EV wetdreams.

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) argued that the cobalt from the Democratic Republic of Congo used for electric vehicles should be treated the same way as blood diamonds were before, and the only difference between blood diamonds and cobalt mined by child slave labor in the DRC is that the cobalt is backed by a political agenda.

Van Orden stated, “[W]e’ve got 21st-century slavery that is being financed by the United States government by giving people tax rebates to buy electric vehicles. … This can be stopped by changing a couple policies and making sure that we are not buying cobalt from the Democratic Republic of Congo as long as they’re using children to mine it.”

Limp dick. Pink dildo. With some assembly you have Tonight's Genius Award Winner

JANUARY 2--After being derided as a “limp dick” in need of Viagra, an ex-con retrieved “a pink dildo” from a bedroom shelf and battered a female acquaintance with the sex toy, according to cops who yesterday arrested the alleged assailant.

Investigators charge that Steven Nurdin, 38, attacked the woman during a 1:20 AM confrontation Monday at a residence in Pinellas County, Florida.

Nurdin and the victim, a court complaint states, were arguing when Nurdin became upset upon being told that he needed an erectile dysfunction medication to address his sexual shortcomings.

28 For decades, public schools have taken on more and more parenting responsibilities from parents. For decades, teachers and their surrogates have lectured us on how parents are unqualified to teach their own children, or even to make decisions about what they should learn.

And now they complain because parents aren't parenting and blame their inability to do their job on the parents who are doing exactly what the public education establishment told them to do.

For gasoline, use nuclear power plants for baseline electricity, and the waste heat from the reactor consumed by algae oil production.

The hilarious part now is - who on Earth is Harvard going to hire to replace Gay?

The Usual Racemongers are DEMANDING that Harvard hire a Black woman as a replacement - after all, we now assign prominent positions in society using racial and sexual quotas, and the only possible replacement for Gay is someone with her gender and skin color (it would be even better if they can get a lesbian this time).

They can hardly hire a white male (even if homosexual) so does Harvard cave and demonstrate that merit no longer matters by hiring a black woman, or do they find some other minority to hire to show that they aren't completely subservient to the DEI commissars?

It's near impossible to get agent on the fire because the batteries are sealed and it's a chemical reaction not a typical combustion fire. Not to mention every manufacturers version of lithium batteries is different.

Problem won't get fixed until they start using other compounds.

102 I'm not surprised that Claudine Gay is out. Harvard is a bit like Citizen Kane in that its legendary stature is based less on an objective contemporary evaluation of its merits but rather on other institutional gatekeepers instructing us from an early age that it is the best and must be held in reverence. If that sounds like a religious thing, then congratulations, you're paying attention and probably also noticed the preponderance of Greco-Roman and Gothic architecture, robes, and cool hats. And the highest commandment of the religion of academia is Thou Shalt Not Plagiarize.

The lithium-ion batteries don't have any actual metallic lithium in them, but various lithium-metal-oxide compounds.

Now, those little button cell "lithium" batteries, non-rechargeable, do use lithium metal.

When the temperature drops to 32F for the Li-ion, a "misreaction" will start to occur that does start depositing lithium metal somehow, which is very bad. Will make the battery go 'splodey. Which is why cold temperatures are very bad for EVs.

That's not affected by the fire.

The only way to stop the chemical reaction would be to cool the lithium below the ignition point or pick up the entire mess and put it into a gigantic vacuum chamber to starve it of oxygen.

The inherent problem is that there is no practical way to expose the batteries so that you can do anything.

So what fire departments are doing is simply putting an glass/ceramic infused blankets to cover the vehicles and just letting them burn themselves out.

Gavin Newsom just appointed this lovely lady to the Healthy California for All Commission, to advance a model for universal healthcare in California. If things go a certain way in November, she could be the Surgeon General or some other influential official:

“The presence of Zionism in US medicine should be examined as a structural impediment to health equity,” she said.

“Zionism is a supremacist; racist ideology and we see Zionist doctors justifying the genocide of Palestinians. How does their outlook/position impact priorities in US medicine?”

She continued: “Zionism in US medicine — coupled with the Israeli government’s operations to discredit and destroy the careers of any critics, funded by the large donors who support US academic medicine — is why US medical institutions have said nothing while Gaza’s hospitals are bombed.”

260 This is not true. America generally was a system of empires with the usual sedentary royalty and regional power centers. It resembled Europe at the time, regional city-states with 'nomads' outside their reach. European diseases put paid to all that. Without European diseases the conquest of America would never have been possible, no how no way.

Posted by: LenNeal at January 02, 2024 11:29 PM (OJ1IG)

Not the area that is now Canada and the U.S. There were tribes in North America, no empires. There were even confederations, groups of tribes, but no empires. Some tribes were more sedentary than the more typical nomadic tribes following the herds but there was no centralized hub that would constitute an empire.

Here's a money quote about this stuff:

"There isn’t a scientific method for establishing where your DNA has come from in the past. That doesn't exist," he said. "What these tests do is show where on Earth people who share your DNA are most likely to be today."

In layman's terms, consumer genetics tests work by comparing submitted DNA to a prearranged "reference panel" — a database of DNA samples belonging to people that the company has determined are from a particular place.

Yes because if there is one thing the allies showed it was a willingness for the Germans to have a national identity at all in the immediate post-war.

The west wanted it to be an enforced serf based agrarian economy in its fevered dreams doomed to providing coal to the UK and France and the Soviets fully intended to use it as a rape farm. The Cold War very possibly is the only thing that gave a temporary reprieve to the German people before they decided to have a Mudder Merkel based 9mm self-inflicted gunshot wound to the groin.

347 Just as the Industrial North's rivers were chemical canals in the evil '60s, those same rivers were Fecal Shitrivers in the heyday of American Indian populations.

Repeat that across every river and stream on the U.S. Continent.

Indians built communities in the same places the settlers would. River bottoms, buffalo trails, bays and estuaries.

Unlike the Indian though, the bloody whites would also bust the sod, fell the trees, build very permanent buildings (many which stand and serve to this day), and send OUT their Nomads, yet keep and build their established towns.

No matter how great an Indian Earthwork, it's still an Earthwork...a mound. While, Independence Hall, yet stands. As do most of the buildings on Boston's "Freedom Trail".

Indians may have had widespread reign(s), but damn little structure or standing to back that up, other than their Warrior culture, and standing. Yet, a competing tribe could overrun THAT village, in a single night raid, triumphant.

Europe is rife with the remains of castles and battlements aplenty. Anything similar of Indians in the U.S. territories?

356 Len, those Indian mounds compare more closely, to the mounds found all across the British Isles and Ireland.

Likewise, the Viking mounds, found wherever they traveled and settled, which was far and wide.

Hell, the Vikings had built up entire vast fortifications, reduced now to "mounds" by the ravages of time.

Nah, I wanna see some multi-story stone or brick edifices. At least the Western Indians had conquered Adobe, and got up to a 2nd story now n' then.

And, who besides Tecumseh and the Iroquois, had developed an actual, alphabetical written language and writing?

Or at least, an analog to the Chinese pictograph?

361 Mayan and Aztec Indian cultures and societies were largely Central American populations and phenomenon.

Largely irrelevant to the general "U.S. Indian" population at discussion, here.

That those conquering peoples did not extend their (yes) Empires northward into what is now the U.S. is telling, as their reach was limited by the range of their runners. Horses would've extended that range, but the invading Spaniards wielded those as their trump card.

Fact remaining, the Lower 48 U.S. Indians were either going to have achieved certain technological breakthroughs before the Europeans waded ashore, or as happened, they were behind the curve and doomed to not catch up, evermore.

Stone edifices, masonry, the wheel, for starters. Clean water and sanitation, to follow.

And even though the Aztecs and Incas mastered gold, silver and jewels, they failed on bronze, iron and steel. Oops.

I've discovered a new toy: "86Box", a emulator for old x86 machines. It can go up to a Pentium CPU (maybe a Pentium II, but anything here are above is too fast to emulate with even current CPU hardware).

I was running into a wall with virtualization for very old OSes. Backwards compatibility, while quite impressive, hits a hard wall at about 30 years, looks like. The old software just can't run right on the latest x86_64 CPUs. Too fast, and speculative execution, and some subtle changes in how the hardware behaves makes it too much of a challenge.

So enter emulation. Emulated older, slower x86 CPUs on the latest and greates x86-64 CPUs.

The default machine type for 86Box is an original IBM PC with an 8088....

Macs can use Disk Utility, so I think there should be some Windows equivalent.

But probably 3rd party.

Not helpful. Apologies.

It pretty much is. What OS are you running now? Windows 10 can mount .iso images directly out of the box. Just right click on it, and select "mount". It should pop up a drive letter.

If you're running Linux, there's a way to do that, from the command certainly, but there's some GUI ways to do it as well.

Not sure about Apache, but I believe they have found some evidence of trade with the Pueblo. Parrot feathers in the north and turquoise in the south. That kind of thing.

389 >> Running Windows 7

Search for "ISO Buster", and download it. The freeware version should open the file and allow you to extract what you want. That would be the easiest way to do it.

The paid version has a lot of other features, but the free one will do what you want. I hope.

Trade, yes. Conquest, notzomuch.

Unless..."parrot feathers", much more recent into the Jimmy Buffett epoch?

There is another tool called "WinCDemu" which will mount .isos to drive letters on Windows 7.

IIRC, there was way to add/hack in a tool from Windows Server of the same era that would give you the right click mount option from explorer. I remember using that years ago. It's still around here somewhere, stored somewhere.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at January 03, 2024 02:59 AM (Mzdiz)

394 "WinCDemu", looks like what I've been looking for.
Looks like I can put it on my new HD and have my old system back.

395 Jim -

Years ago, I saw a film / tv documentary on the thesis that certain American Southwest tribes were connected religiously to city’s further south.

The author based this on evidence of roads that were straight - even over difficult to traverse terrain - that connected the smaller settlements. An “only” trade route would have made use of easy to traverse geographical features.

So the use of a very straight path had to have more meaning than let’s go from point A to point B.

Do not remember the name of the author /film maker, nor the name of the documentary.

That's kind of silly. A straight, level path might take longer to build but it makes the free flow of trade and movement of troops MUCH easier.

400 Morning, fellow insomaniacals,

Up early as usual on my first day back to the electron mines. Like the Perfessor, I work for an "academic" institution. I can't speak for him, but I lost all respect for my employer during the Sniffle Scare, and the nonsense of DIE/"land acknowledgment"/the plagiarism by Gay has only cemented it. I'm planning to be outta there by the end of March.

It's a shame, as I once was proud to work there and to be a graduate of the place. But academia has reflected, and helped to pioneer, the decay and collapse of our society. I don't even wear my college ring any more.

401 Re: my 400, I didn't mean to start off the morning being such a downer. Not enough sleep, I guess.

The Killer Kittens From Outer Space, Dagny and Stirling, are doing well. Stirling got very nervous again during the fireworks noise on 12/31 and went to hide -- not just under the bed, but IN it. The liner of the box spring after 25 years has sagged and come loose; he and his sister have probably torn it further; and he crept inside among the springs to hide. Dagny remained unconcerned and uninterested in the fireworks crumps and bangs.

I tried to stay up all night and mostly succeeded if you ignore the nap I took around 10pm. It was a 2-hour nap. I'm a weak nightwalker. Used to be able to stay up all night. Go back to work Thursday night. Going to try and stay up a little longer this morning. Go to bed by 0730.

6 minutes to Pixy...

418 Loved the story of a blogger in the UK who tried to use his new EV to haul a caravan (travel trailer for you Americans) on a relative short trip. Finding a working charging station was difficult at best. The car manufacturer gives you a route to take to make the 300 miles. Half of the charging stations were out of order, and you have to unhitch the trailer to get into a charging station when you fine one that works. Beautiful trailer, but those English just can't seem to haul heavy trailers with EV's. We Americans will just have to show them how we do it, We don't.
