Well, I just got back from my personal little polar bear plunge.
Puget Sound is 48 this time of year. So, I walked across the street in sandals and my suit and a bathrobe, towel in hand. I also brought my mom's crucifix. She was wearing it when she died. More than half the time I wear it, I get crippling anxiety and a feeling of doom. I was halfway thinking about chickening out when a group of millennials, who had obviously already take. Their plunge and were gathered around a fire ring drinking something hot and steamy from coffee mugs, well, they started cheering for me. I took off my robe, dropped my towel, keys and phone and walked into the water, with them cheering louder. About waist high, I tossed the crucifix into the water in front of me and dunked under. As I was walking out, they invited me to join them around their fire. I put my robe back on, tied my hair in my towel, thanked them for their encouragement and wished them a happy new year. 01JAN2024 Updated map of warships operating in Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea. Updates: Important Context: Today I'm seeing a lot of people regurgitating IRGC media reports that the IRIS ALBORZ has been sent to the Red Sea and that this is escalation all the IRGC media outlets did today was publicly announced previously reported on media of the ship already being in the Red Sea. Also it is not the only ship. Along with the fact this ship has been in the Red Sea for a month, this is old news. IRIN has as part of the 94th fleet the following ships in the Red Sea since early December 2023. IRIS ALBORZ (72) IRIS BUSHEHR (422) IRGCN has the following ship in the Red Sea and has hardly moved in nearly 3 years. MV BEHSHAD which is a known IRGCN Forward Base Ship which acts as an offshore surveillance, command & liaison base by Iranian forces operating in the Red Sea, providing actionable intelligence and targeting data to the Houthi Rebels. IRIN and IRGCN have long held naval presence in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Y where I swim has an outdoor pool that they keep open year round. They only close it if the temps drop below 32 degrees or its snowinig. They heat the pool to 82 degrees. Lots of people show up in bathrobes and flip flops, swim, put on the bathrobe and run to their cars. Or, hit the indoor jacuzzi and proceed to the locker room and sauna. I stopped swimming in the outdoor pool when it dropped below 60 degrees outside but I keep thinking I want to try it. The people who do it look very healthy.
