13 St. Sebastian was a favorite of Emperor Diocletian, and served as a captain of the infamous Praetorian Guard. He had secretly been bringing supplies to persecuted Christians, and his missionary efforts were know in shady underground circles. St . Sebastian was a man of great faith when such faith had to be hidden, and he was even known to have brought Christianity to fellow members of the Roman armed services.

Diocletian had St. Sebastian tied to a tree and shot, but the arrows that pierced his strong body failed to kill him. These arrows are still an important symbol of his sainthood. He later died as a result of blunt trauma. Since he was able to endure such incredible punishment, he is often invoked as the patron of athletes. Archers are also known to pray for him in times of need

Heh... Neal Stephenson described a (fictional, I think) saint with Tourette's Syndrome in his Baroque Cycle. The saint was depicted holding the tongs with which his tongue had been ripped out, and the sailmaker's needle with which his lips had been sewn shut.

St Catherine ones are kind of funny when she's depicted holding a tiny wheel. I liked one which shows the massive size of that thing.

I like the little smile on St Sebastian's face as he's holding the arrow like a quill or a paintbrush.

45 He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, but this did not kill him. He was rescued and healed by Irene of Rome, which became a popular subject in 17th-century painting. Shortly after his recovery, he went to Diocletian to warn him about his sins, and as a result, he was clubbed to death.

90 The interesting thing about the Dylan - Donovan Conflict was in 1965 Dylan played Newport Folk Festival with electric guitars, featuring his 1965 Maggie's Farm album, and shocked the world while Donovan released two albums, his debut album What's Bid Did and What's Been Hid and his second Fairytale album. Dylan was 23 while Donovan was 19. There were some that accused Donovan of copying Dylan. This led to the amazing moment when Dylan and Donovan met in London and each played the other one of their songs - Dylan's 'Its All Over Now, Baby Blue' and Donovan's 'To Sing For You’. All rivalry was settled and they signed a peace treaty. Oddly, by the end of 1965 Dylan had a motorcycle accident and did not perform or produce any new music until the 'Self Portrait' in 1970. Donovan, however, became to the guiding light for psychedelic movement that lasted into 1973. Interesting twist of fate.

105 ||He is a patron saint of archers and athletes and of those who desire a saintly death. He was also venerated as a protector from the bubonic plague and as a patron of plague victims.

According to his legend, he was born in Gaul, went to Rome, and joined (c. 283) the army of the emperor Carinus, later becoming a captain under Diocletian. When it was discovered that he was a Christian who had converted many soldiers, Sebastian was ordered to be killed by arrows. The archers left him for dead, but a Christian widow nursed him back to health. He then presented himself before Diocletian, who condemned him to death by beating. His body, thrown into a sewer, was found by another pious woman, who dreamed that Sebastian told her to bury his remains near the catacombs. His relics are believed to be in the Basilica of San Sebastiano on the Appian Way, to which many pilgrims were attracted in the Middle Ages.||

203 Nashville Skyline was released in the spring of 1969.
-----------------
This is true. Good catch. This was a studio album with no performances to launch sales. This is during the time of Dylan's conversion to Christianity which may have brought Johnny Cash and others to his door in Nashville. While this was going on Donovan had produced seven albums with tours and had introduced the Beatles, Beach Boys and Mia Farrow to Transcendental Meditation and taught both John Lennon and Paul McCartney how to pick a guitar. The later lead to Julia, Dear Prudence and Blackbird and best of all Psychedelic Lennon songs. A seismic shift in influence was Donovan.

Does that mean Ace is going to get drunk on a bottle or affordable Scotch and bang his favorite groupie?

Notice how we haven't had a flaming skull in a while now, not even for the CO thing? We've been so battered politically and culturally that nothing seems shocking now.

We certainly can't do any worse, and at least the ultimate winner can yell a la Maximus: "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!?!"
