My last not-just-cleaning dentist visit was seven small fillings that the dentist wanted to split up into two visits. My one root canal took one visit for the actual root canal and two for the crown (impression and installation). I can't imagine how the above described was performed in 5.5 hours.

I've been extraordinarily lucky when it comes to teeth, only have three fillings and one problematic tooth, an upper rear molar that loses it's filling every 5 years or so, taking a bit more tooth every time.

What was peculiar about it? If it were normative and widely supported, wouldn't they have just called "the institution?" And why would Southerners coin it, and have Northerners throw it back in their faces?
If I didn't know better, I might think it was more a highly divisive institution that large groups of people bitterly disagreed about from the founding of that troubled republic, than a universally loved one that defined it.
Thankfully, I have American academics who can explain the subtle nuances to me.

1. Slavery was imported and imposed on the colonies before America was founded.
2. It was controversial at the time of founding.
3. Limitations were put on it the second the country was founded.
4. It lasted less than 80 years after founding.

Funny thing about raising kids: you don't get do-overs. Somehow, Daughter turned out solid, finally marrying a good man (and, psst, she's pregnant). SonM seems to be a confirmed bachelor, but is a great man and a big help to his folks and sister. His fraternal twin brother... is lib-infected, gender-confused, and has nothing to do with us- including no contact allowed with his two kids- since my mom's funeral over two years ago. So two out of three turned out ok. Despite more than because of me? God only knows.
Their mom is the best. She deserves to be honored more by her lost son, and not getting to be with the grandbabies has been heartbreaking.
Y' just never know.
Enough oversharing tonight. Checking out. Today had its moments. And, tomorrow... is a rest day....

So it has SCOTUS jurisdiction all over it, but in the ordinary course of events, the next stop would be the federal Courts of Appeal, not SCOTUS.
But these are anything but ordinary cases, so one could argue (as the CO GOP is apparently doing), that time is of the essence, and SCOTUS should take jurisdiction now.
SCOTUS just declined to do that very thing for Jack Smith & Presidential immunity. Said no, let it go through the regular appellate process.

Decades ago I worked in a major metro hospital. A suit and tie dressed businessman walked into the ER stepping in a most unusual manner; knock-kneed, pigeon-toed, and trying to levitate by sheer force of will. Turned out he swung both ways. Why is there always an emphasis on children? Dead is dead and the dead don't care. It's the living that care but then only family and very close friends. Everyone else is mostly being hypocritical.

Curbside Classic has an interesting writeup on the Studebaker V8 that AOP persists in fooling around with. 700 pounds for a 289??!! The article goes into detail explaining why there just wasn't much of a way to match the GM small block: design didn't allow it, and why it was designed that way. Well worth a read.

Nope. Beavers don't eat or cut down evergreens. Makes for very interesting aerial photos of their ponds, especially in the fall with their evergreen "beaver rings" on the banks of the ponds since the beavers ignored them but cut down all the deciduous ones.
