Thanks. I appreciate that Same to you. I do remember the message and will be delivering it today and tonight. I am glad I do not have to go anywhere tomorrow, because after four services since Thursday my old bones will be worn out. I am grateful for FenSpouse and son who have been a great help getting things ready at the church.

Wow. My No. 9 . . . did I really write such good coherent thoughts at this point, not coffee'd enough and barely awake yet? "Hey, boy, you ever thought-a bein' a writer?"
Anyway: The Killer Kittens, whom I may rename until Tuesday the Christmas Kittens, are up and hungry. Big black Stirling tried to wake me ninety minutes ago, but I foiled him, never mind how. Little Dagny the Forest Feral is what she is. Miss Linda and I are going out to our favorite diner for breakfast -- they are open until 2:00. Then she wants to go to Mass at 11:00 tonight. I don't want her walking at that hour down to the church, so I'll need to drive her; and if I do that, I might as well attend the service too. Most of my cats have adoptees one way or another -- SPCA, local shelter, one who leaped into my car, etc. I've never had one that came from a rescue situation that I know of. All took to toys almost immediately and never stopped playing.
Chekov D. Siberian was an exception, sort of. He came from the same breeder as the late Tatiana and the new Dagny. He hid under the bed, coming out mostly for food and litter box breaks, for a couple of weeks; but once he concluded he was among good humans, he trotted out and began playing and romping. It was just the horrible shock of the change from the home he'd known for more than two years to a new one with no other cats, I guess. Staying up until well past midnight (no matter how clear it might be, heh heh) is not something I do very often nowadays. Oh, well. I love the way the church looks and is decorated every day, let alone for Christmas. Somehow the sculptor who did the Nativity scene in, I guess, about 1/3 scale, gave even the animals distinct personalities. 55 Friends of mine, part time real estate types listed a church. A small Russian orthodox church consolidated with another due to the congregation dying off. Friends asked me to come with them and give the place a look over for obvious needed repairs. The heating was an ancient oil fired boiler in a separate out building and probably required somebody to tend it when in use. No thermostat in the church. Friends commented on lack of pews and I 'splained old Russian orthodox is SRO. There was electric lighting, but still had oil lamps in place, I guess for use during services.

JQ Stolen cat NOT We had the same experience once that we know of. Black cat, with a nasty facial wound, very friendly and got on with our cats (at the time all were inside/outside). Took him to the vet, no chip and already neutered. Lived mostly with us, even slept on our beds at night. Long story but turns out he belonged 3 doors down on the other side of the street. Once in a while he'd go home. After we had him for many years and we could tell he was in old age at about 17, one day I let him out, he went home and we never saw him again. Chekov D. Siberian never could work up the nerve to go outside, but his adopted brother Wolf got out twice. Once when maintenance people were here before I got home and he slid out -- but when I stood outside calling him, he came racing back. Another time I accidentally left the screen door ajar while I was working on my car, and turned back to see him sprawled on the walkway outside, just enjoying the sunlight. You are thinking of the sacks that came at the tail end of the empire. 410 AD for the Gothic sack. Vandal sack in 455 AD.
But there was a MUCH earlier sack in the very early days of the Republic by Gallic tribes in, *looks it up this time* this says 387 BC. When paclitaxel was first discovered in 1962, it was found to be very powerful. But supplies were very limited, as it would kill a Pacific Yew tree to extract it. Several research groups tried to make it in the lab. It was a very complex molecule. The Scripps research group, led by K. C. Nicolaou and a team of EU post docs started late, but moved fast. Until the 1994 World Cup in LA. His team deserted him, and he was beyond distraught. They finally came back, completed the 78th step, and he was the first published. Another group had succeeded another way, and was the first to be accepted for publication. A photo finish, but Nicolaou is better remembered today. Since 1994, 5 other groups have made the molecule, and your drug has been tweaked by chemists to be more effective, with less side effects. That effort goes on today. I think they can add something to make it have less side effects. It is a success story of synthetic chemists. And where the billions spent on fighting cancer were most visible. After the early Gallic sack the city (except for what was on the Palatine Hill) had been almost completely destroyed. They evidently discussed moving to Veii (an etruscan city like... 10 miles north of rome) that they had defeated a few years prior- which was a ghost town and was in a very defensible position. There was an anecdotal story about the Senators debating in the ashes of the forum when a guard patrol stopped and the leader called out 'We might as well stop right here.' The Senators heard it clearly and took it as an omen and immediately decided they were not going anywhere. Posted by: Aetius451AD Johnson at December 24, 2023 08:53 AM (di6C2) 288
