My beef is that the thousand plus years of good music was ditched for campfire/easy listening crap sixty years ago.

It was Tradition at my local Methodist church (that I was raised in) that the Christmas Eve service, was telling the story of Christmas, in song... with a candlelight hymn at the end. Some songs done by the Choir, but most sung by the Congregation.
That tradition brought a LOT of non Church goers, to church that night... but it died ten years ago when they brought in a Pilipino Minister... who has no ties to the small town American culture we had here.

Oh, we have them. But unless you're in a Trad parish, you rarely get to sing them, so very few know they exist.
One endearing thing about the little evangelical church my husband likes me to attend with him sometimes is that they sing ALL the verses to the hymns.

A couple weeks ago I went to a Presbyterian service that was just music and some appropriate Scripture readings. It was all good, but when one guy got up and sang "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," that was a very spine-tingling moment. Don't believe I've ever heard it done so well.

Christmas starts when I play their version of "Silent Night", sung in German with a guitar accompaniment.

No I don't. I have a problem with vets wanting to vaccinate every year. That's not how vaccines work. Some may require a boost after 10 years or so (in humans), some never. Now pets, with their short lifespans of 10-20 years should really only require one shot, occasionally two, and I think it's an official scam perpetrated to make more money.

Also. Paper towels are strong. Don't end up with a handfull of snot, after it blows right through the gossamer Kleenex.
A paper towel can be folded into halves or quarters, and offer a bit of service life into those different folds, until spent. Then, into the trash, of course.
Kleenex? Usually lasts LESS THAN once. Have to grab a wasteful handful. And somehow? Their fine texture works like those Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" scrubbers. About a 3000 grit abrasive, but make no mistake, they're an abrasive. Don't believe me? Clean the "gloss paint" on your door or trim work, and watch how quickly that gloss disappears.
Kleenex does the same to your skin. Strips it bare. Paper towel? "Feels" coarse. Is actually gentler and kinder to the skin, in practical use.

I used old sheets for pressing cloths for making cider this year, it always permanently stains them a beige color of varying saturation. The lighter ones I cut up and hemmed to make handkerchiefs.
store bought handkerchiefs have been shrinking in size for as long as I remember, and they are expensive. I made my nose wipes about 18" x 18"
If you got a really leaky nose, use a tissue to blow, but the cloth ones are good wipers.

If you want a double project, try doing batik dying. It requires doing a resist with wax, and you can do a sort of three color printing or more if you want to get fancy.
It is more understandable than tie-dying.

I'd planned on doing a bunch of baking this week, but got sick almost as soon as we got back from Inspector's business trip and Inspector may actually have the flu since he's badly congested and *everything* hurts. At this point I'm going to be lucky to make it to the grocery store in time to get fresh fruit or vegetables. Thank God we had steak in the freezer since getting together with the family is out of the question.

Xlear has xylitol sugar in it, which is far less unpleasant that using a netti pot with very dilute solution of betadyne in it. It is supposed to work very well for head colds.

Re the "Drip Drop". It's got electrolytes. My 93 yr old mother had a bout of some crud and wasn't wanting to eat and just sort of down and out. Miley took her to her chiropractor late last week. The chiro, Dianne, got really concerned, saying Mama just seemed out of it, and sort of disoriented. She suggested some electrolyte solution.
There are all kinds, basically a rehydration solution. I got some of this Drip Drop stuff -- there was some reason, which I can't remember, that I liked it better than the Pedialyte offerings.
Anyway, lo and behold, that perked her up after a day or so.

One time, back around the mid-2000s, my mother got some sort of stomach bug, or it may have been diverticulitis, which she's had bouts of before. She didn't want to eat much. At the time, she was in her mid 70s or so, and I wasn't worried or paying much attention to what she was doing as I do now.
Anyway, there for a few days, she ate nothing but Jello, saying that's all she could stomach. That resulted in a trip to the ER late one night. She got dizzy and out of it.
Turned out her potassium levels had dropped, and some other blood electrolyte levels were all out of whack. They said she wasn't in the danger zone just yet, but she soon would've been. You can drop dead from cardiac arrest if these levels get too far out of whack.

Graveyard is a pain, I worked it for years and never got good at it. totally dark room to sleep in, and that means no lit phone or clock radio if you can avoid it. You might consider those blue lenses for the last two hours before you sleep. graveyard is what made me stop drinking beer, too. Alcohol can mess up your sleep, and drinking at 7 am in bars can introduce you to the more interesting people in our urban areas.

There is one pin on all the xyz86 processors that is Power_Good. If that pin doesn't have 5v (maybe 3v these days) then it won't start.
Related old tech: Motorola CPUs would require a brief grounding of the RESET pin to reboot the chip (Reset button) whereas Intel's required a pull-up to 5v for reset. Weird.

There is also the famous Unix printer error message (for unknown error): "lp1 on fire."
Supposedly that happened to Ken Thompson and the boys at Bell Labs playing around. One was trying to print something, and got a crazy error response. It made no sense.
Turned out the printer was actually on fire. Thereafter and unknown printer error code became "lp1 on fire".

I was just reading the history of "HCF", halt and catch fire. Invalid Opcode for the old 6800. In hex, that code was "DD", or Drop Dead.
Executing it would result in the CPU going crazy in an endless loop. It had use for diagnostic purposes.

Kids are older and they don't seem to care much despite it all being a lot of fun when they were little.

Well, an astrognomonical event of significance just happened, the longitudinal speed of the sun just reached the maximum for the year, as projected on the celestial equator. This is the longest apparent solar day of the tropical year.
It occurs about a day after the Dec. solstice. That came a bit late this year, the 22nd in Zulu, about 10:27PM in EST yesterday.
So I'm gonna say that happened about 2:00AM EST, or 07:00 Zulu, which means Dec. 23 will be the longest solar day, at 24 hours + 29.86 s.
2024 is a leap year, and that will reset all this back earlier per calendar day.
