43 Well, as it's an open thread.... The Moron authors I've read are getting shafted by the publishing world. A new person showed on my YT feed for writing and publishing. She looked cute, except for the caterpillers over her eyes. I watched her vid on how she got a two book deal with one of the big five houses. I watched the vid: she doesn't present well, goes all over the place bouncing from point to point and never really seems to finish what she's saying.

So, after the third vid, I decided to check out her named book on Goodreads. Sure, she has a few five stars and four, but there were so many threes and below, that you wonder how the hell this person was offered a two book contract. The lower reviews were terrible. And they weren't fake either, they talked about the writing, the plot, and the themes covered.

It took her six years from the time she began writing, to finally getting one published. She didn't say if she had a ghost writer helping her, although she did mention having an editor. Didn't tell the cost for that. No wonder authors such as Sarah Hoyt, Sabrina Chase, and MP4 have to go the indie route. You'd think the five would realize selling bad books is bad business.

So, I "fixed" my Pinephone today. It had been bricked since I let the factory-installed Kde+Plasma system update itself. So I downloaded Manjaro Linux+Phosh phone shell to an SD card, and installed that in the phone. It now boots up, and I can (sort of) work in it. The touch screen is clumsy and unintuitive. Once an App is started, you cannot.turn.it.off. Stupid! The automatic date/time function requires an Internet connection. Stupid! It's a damned phone! That info is available from the cell tower. Fail. And the manual day/date setting would not let me scroll past August for the month. Stupid! I was able to make one call, which went to voicemail, but at least it was able to get on the network. SIM card went back in the flip phone. Pinephone is not ready for prime time. They may have succeeded in putting an entire Linux computer into a phone, but I don't want an entire Linux computer in my phone. I have a laptop running Linux. And a desktop, which I am using right now.

If the Pinephone community cannot come up with an OS distro that makes telephony Job #1, then they deserve to go in the bit bucket.
