McDonald’s closes after customer says crack pipe found in breakfast order

An Ohio McDonald’s was closed by health inspectors after a customer reported getting a crack pipe in a drive-thru breakfast order.

The anonymous customer initially posted on Reddit about the disturbing find in his Tuesday morning order at one of the fast food chain’s locations in Columbus.

He said he brought the bag back to the store, alerting a manager so that something similar wouldn’t “end up in a Happy Meal.”

However, he declined an offered refund and instead reported it to Franklin County Public Health, the post said.

Health inspectors then closed the location Wednesday after finding multiple health code violations during building work there, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Boy, Happy Meals sure have changed since I was a kid.

Our Broken Education System

Teacher left in tears after principal confiscates pizzas she brought for hard-working students because 'it wasn't fair to other classes'

I F'in hate this shit. * spit * “Equity”

Parents of students of a class at Brody Middle School in Des Moines are frustrated since the principal of the school, Thomas Hoffman, canceled a pizza party that one of the teachers had arranged for her students as a reward for hard work.

This was announced to the students months before and was an event that kids were looking forward to. However, once the pizzas were delivered and paid for, and just before the students could dig in, the principal came around and confiscated them.

One of the parents shared this on Facebook and the post has since gone viral. Neil Erickson wrote, "My son attends Brody Middle School here in Des Moines. His class earned a pizza party that I believe the teacher paid for. He has been excited for this for days…telling me about it and how they earned it."

He added, "Well today was the day. The pizzas were delivered to the class… the teacher paid and signed the receipt. Principal walks into the classroom and says 'I never approve pizza parties' or something to that effect. He took the pizzas from the kids and let them sit in the office for the teacher to pick up after school. Now my son and his classmates lost the party they worked hard to earn and the pizza I'm sure is wasted now…and the teacher was left in tears. I just cant believe it!"

Where in the hell did the idea that it's wrong for kids to “feel bad” come from? I want kids to feel bad. I want them upset that they didn't get an “A” if they didn't do “A” work. I want them seeing other kids getting things that they didn't because the other kids earned it. I won't say that I want them to cry, but sometimes they need to cry. That's how you grow. That's how you learn. That's how you become an adult.

Go, Canada

Canadians Flee The Country In The Fourth Highest Volume In 73 Years

Canada is set to have a banger of a year when it comes to resident outflows. There were 74,017 emigrants year to date (YTD), already hitting 79% of the total last year. The final quarter of 2023 can come in lower than the previous two years and still print one of the biggest years ever for outflows.

Canada’s outflows have largely been ignored since record population growth obfuscates it. Most policymakers would point to the net increase as reason to ignore the issue. However, this dismisses an important point that is beginning to surface—if the people most familiar with a country don’t see opportunity, how long can it attract immigrants?

In short, Canada is being run like a dodgy, fly-by-night credit card company. Its operators don’t really care about losing clients, as long as the inflow of new ones outpaces the old ones. At a certain point though, a reputation develops and turns into a warning for new clients. Canada may have reached that point, with study permit applications declining sharply, indicating future population growth won’t be so robust.

If native Canadians leave but are replaced by an equal or greater number of immigrants from countries that do not share Canadian values and culture, how long before Canada stops being Canada and starts being the same as the countries they left behind? Especially as they are not expected to integrate? Put it another way, Afghanistan and Canada both have about 40 million people. If you snapped your fingers and switched them, do you think the former Afghanis now Canadians would be the same peaceful and friendly neighbors that the current Canadians are? The same thing is happening down here, there are just a lot more of us to displace, and we don't have anywhere to go. Although, given recent events, we might start to echo Jason Isaacs' character in The Patriot, bargaining with Cornwallis for his spoils: “So, tell me about...Argentina”.

The 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time

Well of course they screwed up. Tell us how in the comments below.

Dirty Boy

Amou Haji: The man who didn’t shower for 67 years

After the first attempt at forcing Amou Haji to bathe, the villagers mostly left him alone about his washing habits. But at the age of 94, some villagers used a kinder approach and were able to escort Amou Haji to a proper bathroom where he could have his first bath in 67 years.

This offer was well-meaning, and there was no ill will involved. In fact, the people of the village had done many small things over the years to help improve Haji’s life, including building him his small cinder block shack.

After his bath, little changed for Haji. He still lived in his shack, ate roadkill, and drank dirty water. But soon he became ill, and his health began to decline.

There’s no way to know for sure if the bath killed Amou Haji, or if it was just bad timing. Either way, a few months went by, and Amou Haji passed away in his home. At the time of his death, Haji was 94 years old.

So if your kids don't want to take their baths, maybe they're just planning on a long, long life.

Football Follies

Al Michaels out of NBC’s NFL playoff coverage in move he wasn’t expecting

The legendary Al Michaels is out of NBC’s NFL playoff coverage, The Post has learned.
Michaels called last year’s incredible Jaguars comeback win over the Chargers, but he and analyst Tony Dungy were widely panned for a perceived lack of enthusiasm.

Michaels, 79, maybe the greatest NFL TV play-by-player of all-time, had a storied run at ABC and NBC calling prime-time football before moving to “Thursday Night Football” on Amazon Prime Video last season.

NBC has four playoff games next month. The network’s No. 1 team, “Sunday Night Football’s” Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth, will handle three of them, including one that will be exclusive just to the network’s streaming service, Peacock.

I haven't seen official confirmation of this, but the word is that this is a result of Michaels being critical of all the attention and publicity being given to Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelse instead of the, you know, actual football game. Which makes sense, we wouldn't want football games to be about football or anything.

Related: Anyone looking forward to the Ravens/49ers game Monday night? Should be a banger.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by the happiest day of her life:

T = 03:27 Zulu, 10:27PM EST. We have solstice,
Sol-stice, sun-still. Astronomical Winter begins. Sol's right ascension is 18:00:00h and his declination is -23d26'17.9". According to Stellarium, that moment occurs at 03:27:20 Zulu.

This is the moment of turning. This far south and no more. Sol has reached the lowest point on the ecliptic, and now heads north. The days will be getting longer, slowly at first, and then picking up speed as Spring approaches.

In an ironic twist of fate due to perihelion being near the solstice, while today is the shortest day in terms of daylight, tomorrow, the 22nd will be the longest solar day of the tropical year, 24 hours and 30 secs, defined as the time between successive high noons.

IIRC, Desi, while he didn't invent it, perfected the 3 camera setup for sitcoms. They shit it on 35mm film, and preserved quality for reruns.

Desi was clever about syndication, retaining the rights for reruns and all that, and set that standard for everything to follow.

I watched every episode of BCS too. I much preferred BB.

I thought BCS was too centered on Saul's gf, & that SHE was the real star of that series. And I thought she was kind of a pill. In addition, I never bought into the character of Saul's brother. Never found him convincing.

Also, I don't LIKE watching fictional lawyers discuss legal issues.

268 Longest tv show I watched all the way through was How I Met Your Mother and while I enjoyed the show the ending was really, really poor.

And...for many shows I get it, you didn't have time to plan for the ending, but the whole premise of this show is the father was narrating how he met his kids' mother so you should have had the ending planned from the get go.

306 268, I am no expert by any means, but I have tried to learn a bit about sitcoms pretty much just by watching them. One thing I’ve learned is the endings can be really weird. Some of them like Seinfeld, Frasier, and MASH had planned endings and made a real big point of it. You could also add Friends to that list You have others like everybody loves Raymond, and just shoot me where the ending is barely even hinted at. The difference is the last shows mentioned weren’t sure if they would be back or not.

I think everybody loves Raymond benefits in syndication because it basically has no ending.

Another funny thing about sitcoms is how often the point of the show and the characters themselves often change from the pilot episode, because the pilot was normally shot a year or two before the following episodes were made. Wouldn’t they are actually picked up then they decide oh crap we need to make a show.

One of the differences is the millennials and zoomers were actively taught to hate everything predating their birth as part of their education immersion. One of the truisms we are taught in history education is to overcome the student's belief that the world began on the date of their birth. I loathed the Barney Miller show growing up, I also acknowledge it was quality TV.

The star of the show. He and Nimoy had a DVD called "Mindmeld," that talked about their early work before Star Trek. They got around to talking about the hatred that came Shatner's way when the movies started. Nimoy got his fair share too from the supporting cast. It all seemed to start at the conventions. At least Koenig seems to have come around, Doohan never did.

362 And...for many shows I get it, you didn't have time to plan for the ending, but the whole premise of this show is the father was narrating how he met his kids' mother so you should have had the ending planned from the get go.

What? They obviously had it planned. The whole show wasn't even really about the mother, It was about Robin Scherbatsky.

365 My problem with "best of" lists, is my natural aversion to the Following of the Herd, dating back to my earliest years.

So, when everyone was breathlessly discussing the latest Seinfeld, you can be sure, it was a show that I hadn't seen. And mostly now, still haven't.

Same with so many "must see" shows. Friends, nope. All of those "coming of age (teen)" shows? nope. Kotter? HELL NO.

Also kept me from spending money on whatever was "in style" at the time. Never bought Members Only, or any popped collars, skinny jeans, and an endless list of "etc", along the way.

Even as a lifetime motorcyclist, I never bought into the "biker" costume thing. Never have owned a biker vest, never will. Nor a wallet with a chain.

And the only online stuff I sign up for is AoS, and Anti-Social-Media. My lawn, is scantly tread upon, if much at all.

Apparently, Jackie Gleason had seriously considered suing Hanna-Barbera Productions over the similarities between The Honeymooners and The Flintstones. However, the comedian chose to let the matter slide because he didn’t want to perceived as the man that put an end to the beloved prehistoric family. Whether The Flintstones was a rip-off or not, audiences loved it. Perhaps wisely, Jackie decided to take the animated homage as a compliment.

Yeah. Just lookit the cost of the MONTHLY FEES those damn places charge.

You buy a house in a 55+ neighborhood? Fine, let's say you pay cash. No mortgage. You're still going to pay +$500/mo in HOA fees. Yeah, they do your yard, so what.

Leave your car in the driveway or curb at night? Heavy fines. That's gotta go IN the garage, always! Want to bust out the heavy tools to cut wood for a new kitchen, floors, tile? Nope, against the rules. Want a SHED in the backyard FOR those tools? No Way In Hell. Nope.

I wasn’t trying to make a point other than just standing up for myself but I did call out professors and teachers at the high school and college level. it is sad that now that is an active defiance because I promise you I did call them out.

I look at areas of the country that were considered liberal at the time you’re northern Virginia’s and so forth. The reality is it wasn’t long ago when even the hard-core lefties allowed dissent. I think we gave that up too easily and to be honest I think it is our side that failed banning one side of the political spectrum can only work if the banned side accepts it.

Heck, I learned the word "droll" from it, as Fred said to Wilma in one particular episode: "Droll, Wilma. Very droll." The Flintstones is brilliant.

Excellent, yes.

But the ENTIRE dias, how they were with Sammy Davis Jr.

Unequaled.

Rickles, a respectable 2nd, to be sure. But Rickles was a comic. Davis Jr., was an EVERYTHING. And the dias treated him as such, each and every one of them.

Mad Men captured the gestalt of the early '60s like no show I've seen in the modern era.

You'd have to watch shows FROM that era, to even come close, and they'd pale behind the DISTSTILLED gestalt that Mad Men bottled from those times.

I grew up in Southern CA in those times. Immediate post-Mid Century '50s furniture, "mod" lamps, accessories, but still the times of trim suits and narrow ties.

And cigarettes and smoking, everywhere, all the time.

I can go back to 1962 in my mind, in a blink. Or, watch a rerun of Mad Men. Same same. (including the Pan Am ads and decor. Same same.)

Indeed.

In honor of Neil. R.I.P, age 33.

He had marched it several times, till he married and moved to Glasgow, his bride's home.

I was just there in August, when his older brother re-wed, this time to a WORTHY lass, to be sure.

Many stories of Scotland I can tell, but not tonight. Early alarm beckons, alas.

532 Well, went shooting and now am at the office, where I find four Local Youts in the main annex shooting pool, playing games on the Big Monitor, and drinking what look like White Claws. Far be it from me to break up a Wisconsin underaged drinking party!

They're keeping it quiet so... whatever. Probably got access from someone's parent.

537 Well, I finished my beer, and I am real sleepy. I'm going to go to sleep, and wake up whenever. Night, Horde.

538 I  "Rodney Reindeer" LOL

Had one as my 'bartender's mascot' for years, under the alias: "Blitzen"

Then, a while back, found the Humming Rodney at a Hallmark/Pharmacy... thought it was a simple hand-puppet, but then... it HUMMED and I busted up laughing

542 Any list that has Watchmen on it but not any of the many many excellent sci fi shows that aren't X-Files (terrible last season), STNG (which had a terrible first season) or Buffy (overrated even though I liked it at the time) is Dumb with a capital D.
The Watchmen movie, flawed as it is, at least had some resemblance to its graphic novel. The show was just SJWs with superpowers.
