The Saturday Night Joke

A man, while playing on the front nine of a complicated golf course became confused as to where he was on the course.

Looking around, he saw a lady playing ahead of him.

He walked up to her, explained his confusion and asked her if she knew what hole he was playing.

'I'm on the 7th hole,' she replied, 'and you are a hole behind me. So you must be on the 6th hole.'

He thanked her and went back to his golf.

On the back nine, the same thing happened and he approached her again with the same request.

'I'm on number 14, and you're still a hole behind, so you must be on the 13th hole.'

Once again he thanked her and returned to his play.

He finished his round and went to the clubhouse where he saw the same lady sitting at the end of the bar.

He asked the bartender if he knew the lady.

The bartender said that she was a sales lady and played the course often.

He approached her and said, 'Let me buy you a drink in appreciation for your help.
I understand that you're in the sales profession. I'm in sales also. What do you sell?'

'I'll tell you, but you're going to laugh,' she replied.

'No, I won't.'

'Well, if you must know,' she answered, 'I work for Tampax.'

With that, he laughed so hard he lost his balance and fell off the bar stool.

'See,' she said. 'I knew you'd laugh!'

'That's not what I'm laughing at,' he replied, 'I'm a salesman for Preparation H, so I'm still a hole behind you.' (H/T AZ deplorable moron)

My opinion? A Culver's Double Deluxe, please.

FOOD
I ranked 12 fast-food double cheeseburgers from worst to best, and my favorite was also one of the cheapest

I ranked double cheeseburgers from 12 different fast-food chains.
White Castle surprised me with its small, cheap, and super-flavorful sliders.
I thought In-N-Out's famous Double-Double was great value and undeniably delicious.

My choice isn't cheap. But I'm past the stage of eating cheap gut bombs.

What Would the ‘Home Alone’ Paris Trip Cost Today? We Did the Math.

We asked travel experts to calculate the cost of the McAllisters disastrous Christmas vacation.

It’s been more than 30 years since the Christmas classic “Home Alone” debuted, and watching it today feels like opening up a time capsule. It’s a travel relic, before the Transportation Security Administration was established and smartphones were invented. Those developments fix most of the plot points that led to 8-year-old Kevin McCallister getting left behind while his family goes to Paris.

For example, the McCallisters of 2023 would likely have their boarding passes on their phones, so spilled milk wouldn’t have led to Kevin’s ticket being tossed in the trash. And because most of us use our phones as alarms, a neighborhood power outage wouldn’t have impacted the departure plan.

And even if they had missed their wake-up call, they would have never made their flight. As Uncle Frank mentions, they left the house with 45 minutes until takeoff. The 21-mile drive between the McCallisters’ home in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka and O’Hare International can take roughly 26 to 45 minutes. Between drop-off, unloading the bounty of luggage, checking bags and clearing airport security, they had zero chance.

Sure, the logistics of the disasters don’t add up anymore, but the trip could still happen — if you have a wealthy benefactor. In case you need a refresher: Peter McCallister’s brother, Rob, transferred to Paris but “missed the whole family,” as Kevin’s mom Kate explains in the beginning of the movie, so “he’s giving us all this trip to Paris for the holidays so we can be together.”

As we re-watched the film this year, we wondered how much the trip would cost now for a group of 15, which includes airport transfers, first-class tickets and then emergency fights home to retrieve the kid you left behind. Three travel experts gave us their best calculations.

He's not the Wet Bandit. He's the Genius Award Winner.

DECEMBER 20--A man wearing a dress and carrying a dildo allegedly tried to burglarize the Florida residence of a 69-year-old woman, according to police who also charged the suspect with stalking.

Investigators say Marshall Jones, 40, first showed up outside the victim’s St. Petersburg residence last Friday around 1:30 AM. He was spotted on video trying to open the door.

At the time, according to an arrest affidavit, Jones was wearing a dress and had “what appeared to be an erect penis in his hand at waist level.” After trying to enter the home, Jones “is then seen pressing the erect penis against the door before walking away.

Jones allegedly came back to the property yesterday afternoon, but subsequently fled on foot.

Meet a Dozen Lesser-Known Christmas Characters, From Mr. Jingeling to Uncle Mistletoe

Created as department store marketing tools, many of these seasonal figures became beloved holiday traditions

As a child in Cleveland in the 1950s, Don Beck rushed home from school every day to watch “The Captain Penny Show,” a television program that typically featured cartoons, “The Three Stooges” or “The Little Rascals” shorts, and a variety of guests interviewed by the eponymous host, a railroad conductor portrayed by local radio announcer and TV personality Ron Penfound.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Beck was always in a little more of a hurry to get home. That was the season the show included appearances by Mr. Jingeling, a locksmith who helped Santa Claus when he lost the key to his workshop. Mr. Jingeling made his debut in 1956, created by the local Halle Brothers Company department store. The character proved so popular that he became a mainstay of the Christmas season for decades.

13 Because my hobby is cars, I was perusing a car website, some is selling a California Mitsubishi Galant VR4 for 12k, it looks absolutely impeccable not a ounce of rust is visible.

It's got 165k on the clock, I would love to buy that car, until I realize that getting any parts for that car is going to be nigh impossible, especially if anything goes wrong with the 4 wheel steering system.

The one thing you have to say about American cars, is that there is a healthy aftermarket parts eco-system for them.

35 Woke bullshit everywhere! We are considering cord-cutting, having an big Xfinity bill each month for what amounts to just everyday TV.

So I talk to a neighbor who has his own house and all his rentals set up with Hulu+LiveTV. I go to Hulu and enter details for the free 7 day trial, then find out I really can't use it because I've Xfinity cable. So I go to the Hulu forum.

First post I see there is the opener of a thread about 10 posts long, the originator all pissed that he or she saw some kind of Christmas Santa Claus commercial that was pro-Israel.

Bunch of others all chime in with the same problem, they're calling out Israel genocide, all the usual crap, and saying why is it on my TV, I watch my TV to get away from all that.

BREAKING: Argentinian President Javier Milei says he will take away welfare from protesters that block the streets.
Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at December 23, 2023 10:21 PM (2yu8s)

It is a little more complicated than that, there is a large class in argentina that is dependent on state benefits, and there is a history of being asked to go protest as a condition of continuing to receive benefits, even though this is a corrupt practice.
dec 18 Milei tweeted (not quoting directly) protesting is a right, as is travelling freely. Protesters blocking the roads will be excluded from state benefits. No one can force you to go to a march under threat of taking away your benefits, and any organization that tries will be removed from handling these benefits.
child food benefits will be increased by 50%
You can denounce anyone who tries to take away your benefits for not attending protests.

Milei is facing protests and possibly a color revolution. He is trying to get ahead of the recruitment for the street mobs, and the loyalty of the police. He seems to have some people with brains on his team.

104 Two statues in a park

There were two statues in a park, one of a naked man, and one of a naked woman. They had been facing each other for a hundred years across a pathway, when one day an angel comes down, and with a single gesture brings the two to life.

The angel tells them, “As a reward for being so patient through a hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty minutes to do what you’ve wished to do the most.”

He looks at her, she looks at him, and they go running behind the shrubbery. The angel waits patiently as the bushes rustle and giggling ensues. After fifteen minutes, the two return, out of breath and laughing.

The angel tells them, “Um, you have fifteen minutes left, would you care to do it again?” He asks her “Shall we?” She eagerly replies, “Oh, yes, lets! But lets change positions. This time, I’ll hold the pigeon down and you shit on its head.”

We do have something similar here. Blam-tifa gets hammered on boards such as these, but no one asks how these people get to protests/riots and what they do the rest of the time. I wish I had saved an article from about two years ago that was a testimony from a former member. Basically these kids run away from home, crash at a house owned by members of lefty NGOs and get fed some nasty drugs to keep them amped up. "Go with us to the protest or you're out on the street" seems to be a powerful motivator.

The biggest issue is, this feature doesn't really download a video to save on your computer forever. It is more akin to the download feature found on mobile apps for Netflix and Hulu, which makes a streaming video available to watch later using your local storage using the app's interface only. NOT A DOWNLOAD
---> A true Download stays on your HD, it is yours.

This is not a method that allows you to, say, watch a video using different software such as the VLC Media Player or Plex.

VLC is my choice. Microsnot will screwup your download if it doesn't approve, besides VLC offers more controls and it will convert to MP3 among other things.

Interesting astro-gnomonical fact about Dec. 25th, Christmas Day. It's one of the four zeroes of the Equation of Time per tropical year. The true sun is aligned with the mean sun, and a sundial would read local mean time without correction.

Since we're a little late in the leap year cycle this time, that moment will occur late on the 25th, might be a little past it. The solstice was almost on the 22nd in EST, and it was on the 22nd in Zulu.

I haven't even refried a couple of cans of Goya beans yet, much less cook, drain, then season and simmer the meat with a little tomato sauce and Dona (with an 'enye') Maria brand mole (with that funny accent on the 'e') sauce. Fresh cilantro, garlic, onion, sweet pepper, spices. Refry/mash some beans (sans pepper). Large Mission brand tortillas. (They're really, really good.)

A shmear of beans (glue) near one end, a sprinkle of raw chopped onion, some sliced Kalamatas, the seasoned meat, a line of sour cream and some grated cheddar and jack mixed. Rolled up all nice and tidy with a bottle of Tabasco sauce's smoked jalapeno flavor near to hand.

The cilantro's taking up a lot of space in the fridge. I use one of those plastic drinking cups one gets at a sports stadium. A little water, the fresh cilantro, then the plastic bag that it came home in put over the top to protect it; works great for any fresh herb that likes to be kept well-hydrated. Fresh cilantro's great (I don't have the 'soap' gene), but that cup with the bag on top takes up refrigerator top shelf real estate.

251 Dot Indians...

The reason Islam made inroads into Hindu land was that it was very open and egalitarian compared to the caste system. To this day the highest castes (the brahma and gupta types) still believe themselves superior to all others.

Islam, in theory if not practise, does not support this.
Very attractive to lower castes.

Dot Indians are not from a high trust society/culture. Like muslims, just different. There's a thought process going on there that is not my upbringing. It's that 'get over' thing, like some of our poor as well as politicians at every. friggin'. level. With the crapton of illegals we've basically ushered in across the border as well as legally (chain) importing a lot of third worlders, we're losing our 'high trust society' status P.D.Q.

They're from a caste society culture. S the importance is probably based more on your status vs actual integrity. I've never been conscious in OR much less having and argument before a procedure. And this was not some rinky dink hospital.

We settled with the understanding that he was not allowed to put me out but established a way to satisfy both of us.
It was either that or come back tomorrow.

274 Christmas Eve 2001-- my BF had passed away & I lived alone. Mom was in hospital, all but one sibling lived far away. 'In town' fam was a mess, and we planned to get together only for Christmas Day.

So, after my solo supper, went for walkabout the neighborhood. Nice! Cold, there was snow on the ground so had to step carefully (no HOA, so sidewalks were hit-n-miss on shoveling) and it was just beautiful. Peaceful. Lots of pretty lights and displays...

Wish I could go walking about right now, but it's dark and I'm no spring chicken-- would probably turn an ankle in some pothole.

275 Thanks, J. Q. I've made this a number of times before, just never for Christmas. I'm eating what I like and at least it's not take-out/fast food. Yeah, I cheat with the can of beans. And I don't make tortillas, either. Or raise and slaughter pigs for that matter. But I am cooking it from as scratch as possible and I know it tastes pretty damn good if'n I say so myself. Gets me a lot of meals, that ol' 'cook once, eat many times more than that' saying. Plus the meat and beans, separately, freeze well, too. I have about a pound-and-a-half of ground pork to kick the whole thing off. And two cans of red beans. The meat simmers so easy cooking. Mashing/refrying the beans is full contact cooking.

287 I do spaghetti probably two or three times a week, but always fresh. I could probably eat fajitas for several days as that is something I learned way back in the early 80s when they just became a thing on the South Texas border. I make them way better than chilis let’s just put it that way.

Everyone has their own tastes, but for me if I were going to make a make head dish and serve it for several days, I would go with veal Parmesan or the much cheaper and often just as good version done with pork cutlets. if you make them from scratch, it can be a bit of a pain, but they do get better, and certainly not worse after a day or two. I know for me it would take at least a few days to get tired of the Parmesan done right.

Another thing you can throw into your wheelhouse is Japanese style curry. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a very particular Japanese dish taken from other cuisines. All you need is chicken potatoes, carrots, onions, and those blocks of Japanese curry mix. That one for sure gets better after the first day.

291 I have been praying so hard for my son to come back to the Church. Tonight, DH and I bought a bunch of gift cards to the local grocery store, and handed some of them out. The rest we gave to the priest at Mass, the vigil Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent. He mentioned that it was amazing how prayers get answered so directly. Said he had a couple who were destitute in his office just yesterday.

Then at Mass, after I received, I looked up, and there was my son, receiving. WTF? He told me after Mass that he had been coming home from hockey, got DH's text that we were at Mass, he came to the Cathedral and found a priest to hear his confession, and received. He didn't know why.

Prayers answered, directly and sometimes even before we pray them.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

292 289, I used to trick my dad once in a blue moon with really well-made lamb. Several mutton they were served at school.

294 When hubby first got 'sick' the Dr's told him to eat a low-protein diet. Riiiight. And then suggested a high-calorie *protein* drink! And limit his salt intake too.

I scratched my head about that... wtf?... plant-based vs. REAL protein? or whatever... and then they said he didn't have much time left.

So, I figured "what difference, at this point, does it make?!" ya know? And let him eat anything & everything he wanted. (Hell, if I was dying, I'd be pissed off if my diet went off the rails over some crap like salt- or protein- content!!!)

And, what do ya know... he's still here. Cranky and picky, but STILL HERE, 3 years later.

303 The best cheeseburgers are the ones you make at home. I grind my own burger so that's an advantage from the get-go. I'm old school, so also the traditional 'deluxe' is my first destination.

Tomatoes, lettuce and onion are the foundation upon which you build the masterwork.

Sweet or dill pickle? A significant choice depending on mood. Both are exquisite.

My basic deluxe cheeseburger will include sharp cheddar, but every other imaginable deviation is acceptable.

And the stack is most important. Do you place the lettuce on the toasted bun first or the pickles? Pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and then burger and cheese?

These are world-changing, world-defining decisions. The placement of mustard and mayonnaise, or secret sauce also become significant as we navigate space-time. This is what separates us from the feral savages roaming the world in fucking tents.
