Aholiday traveler was arrested Sunday for initiating a false bomb threat at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, causing part of the airport to be evacuated. The culprit was identified as 27-year-old Tyler Baeder of Rhode Island by the Broward Sheriff's Office after they responded to the alleged bomb threat on the upper level of Terminal 1 around 5:30 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, an airport employee called authorities after Baeder reportedly said “Call the cops, I have a bomb in my bag” after becoming disgruntled with the kiosk machine while checking in for his flight.

There was nothing to do, I didn’t see a bear, and that snake harassed me Visitors come from across the globe to set foot in our national parks. But some people are simply unimpressed. The internet gives these people a place to air their grievances. Some now-classic bad national park reviews have made their way further, into illustrations, T-shirts, and needlepoints. “There are bugs, and they will bite you on your face,” they say. Or, “Trees block view and there are too many gray rocks.” “The water is ice-cold,” someone griped about Acadia National Park in Maine, making it onto a poster made by Subpar Parks, which documents bad reviews. The complaints keep coming. I searched Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google for the best and worst reviews of our national parks in 2023. To be fair, most of the complaints were about excessive crowds, traffic jams, and new reservation systems. But some visitors had, uh, more nuanced grudges regarding lackluster scenery or were shocked by the lack of amenities. Here are my favorites.

Just days after Tesla was forced to recall nearly every car it ever made over safety issues involving its Autopilot system, a new report alleges that Tesla has the highest accident rate of any automotive brand. LendingTree, the auto loan and mortgage giant, didn't go any further into its analysis other than to look at crash numbers. The report doesn't explain why Teslas crashed at a higher rate than any other brand, only that it does. According to LendingTree, between Nov. 14, 2022, and Nov. 14, 2023, there were 23.54 Tesla accidents per 1,000 drivers. Only two other brands had more than 20 accidents per 1,000 drivers, Ram (22.76) and Subaru (20.90). That accident rate also helped it earn the second-highest incident rate, 31.13, behind only Ram (32.90). The difference between accident rate and incident rate is that the latter also factors DUIs, speeding, and any other citations.

I have not tasted Fireball. I have a bottle of some stuff sold as "Alberta Wheat Moonshine" by Red Cup Distillery in Edmonton. Their vodka is a good sub for Valu-Rite. The "moonshine" is just nasty, has a taste not unlike brake fluid.

Having actually driven a Tesla, it's not the power, it's two things..
1. Teslas have gigantic displays that are constantly bombarding you with information, so distracted driving is a real thing.
2. The driving/braking system gives the driver the false sense of being able to stop on a dime as you can drive/stop with one pedal.
As has been noted, EV's are stupid and ridiculous.

I can get some relief by doing a stretch where I put my right arm horizontally across my lower back, reach over my head with my left arm, and pull my head sideways from the top over to the left.
Today I was doing this. I saw myself in the mirror and had an Ah Ha moment. I could see muscle fibers straining near my shoulder on my upper chest near where my chemo port used to be.
My theory is the chemo port scar shortened and scarred some muscles. Now my shoulder has pain because of an imbalance caused by this.

0700-0900: roams around house; drinks 8oz of formula, two pieces of toast.
0900-1100: chases dog through yard and office.
1100-1130: tantrum because I stop her dog chasing because I am freezing my ass off and need to turn on my office heat
1130-0200: warmed up; dog chasing continues
0200-0300: cartoons; conehead time... 8oz formula, 20oz applesauce, 8oz mashed potatoes
0200-0700: charged up. Nonstop rampage. Home, office, yard, dog, parents, siblings - nothing and no one is spared in this phase
0800: deep, snoring sleep
That's a good sixteen hour long dervish-whirl.

1. The probably didn't take any sort of driver's ed
2. The drivers 'test' if there was one, was bullshit
3. The car they're in 20 years ago would have failed every safety requirement (no lights, bumpers, wipers, mirrors, etc.)
4. The driver is unable to operate the lights and or wipers if so equipped
5. The stereo is worth 10X the car and can be heard 10 minutes before you see it

Don't believe it. The Biden administration keeps trying to float these rumors thinking they can shame Israel into doing it; but it fails.
In real world news, Hamas has just said that there will be NO ceasefire or negotiations until Israel unilaterally halts its operations. This is a ridiculous demand, and guarantees that this is now a fight to the death, with no quarter given.
Having said that, Israel is close to securing the entire area. Khan Younis is almost completely reduced; Jabaliyah is now under complete IDF control, and Rafah is the last Hamas stronghold left. At some point the fighting will end, because Israel will have run out of targets.

And those Top Fuel engines last about 500 revolutions. That's not a typo. One run turns them only a bit over 300 full revolutions. After one run, maybe two, the engines are worn out.

Backstory: I read this at the Daily Caller, & I thought it seemed improbable. So I fact checked it against a govt Bureau of Statistics website. The Daily Caller had it right. It's NOT bogus!
Since 2020, the total amount of Americans' savings has declined from $6 trillion to less than $1 trillion. Some of this incredible decline can be explained by "excessive savings due to the COVID lockdown," & by the stimulus checks arriving for over a year when there wasn't much to spend it on.
But consider: an average American family which had $100k in savings in 2020 now has $16000. Again, that's on average.
Most of that decline is because Americans are being forced to deplete their savings in order to pay their regular living expenses.
Obviously, this affects the least affluent households the most. I'm not an economist, but I don't think you have to be one to understand the significance of what's happening.

I think it was just a couple months back, that the first ever quarter mile, +400mph Trap Speed was recorded, by a Top Fuel Dragster.
Ceiling had been in the 385/395 mph range for what, fifteen, twenty years or so?
That is LITERALLY "eyeball flattening" acceleration. Stronger even than an F-18 off of the catapult.
I know that they have to completely rebuild the engine, between each and every run. The spark plugs are burned away to *nothing* in the first 100 ft. of the run, and the engine is self-igniting from residual heat, after that. The pistons are half-melted. Do the connecting rods even survive? Any surviving parts in the cylinder heads, at all?
20,000 hp BOMB going off, is what they are.
"Yee Haw" isn't quick enough, you'll only get to shout out the "Yee!".
Same if it's an "Oh SHIT!" run. "OH! *static*"

It just keeps accelerating, it's quite unusual. It's a steady acceleration and fools you. You look down at you're doing 120mph and still climbing with no discernible effort.
I find this machine very interesting, and I can see why it has a certain following. It's narrow for its length and tracks extremely well, and for balls-out high speed over long periods it's very, very hard to beat. Top end is maybe 170mph but it handles easily at 150 or so. Very much a sleeper for certain applications.

Well, you learn something everday. Mean effective pressure, MEP, is displacement independent way of expressing torque, kind of a specific torque value.
Its dimension is indeed pressure, force over area, or torque over volume.
This value for typical automotive engines is 200 - 400 psi. Diesels are on the high end. The value for the very short fuse top fuel engines is around 1500 psi.

When you look at all the little details that were captured on film and TV footage, it could not have been faked with the technology available at the time. Even today, doing that with CGI, well, it would be obvious.
I've read and heard discussions of that among CGI and SFX people. Our untrained eyes might think a modern CGI/SFX production was very good, but they would easily spot the difference.

I've read and heard discussions of that among CGI and SFX people. Our untrained eyes might think a modern CGI/SFX production was very good, but they would easily spot the difference.

A Khrushchev-like diplomat comes to New York at Christmastime, and Solo and Illya are assigned to protect him -- I don't recall from what. It's a silly script with some comedy but no real danger; only Akim Tamiroff's performance stands out.

Tomorrow I meet with the pension guy to confirm what I see online about my future income beyond SS. Maybe he'll have some advice about who I can call to ask about Medicare Advantage plans vs. individual dental, drug, and vision plans. Though when I write it out like that, the MA plans sound awfully good.

Yes, I am pretty healthy; BP meds are my only Rx, and I'm hoping my diet changes will handle the elevated A1C I had three months ago. The AMAC advisor tells me I can sign up for an MA plan, Parts C and D, as soon as my Medicare Part B kicks in. There are plenty of insurers offering $0 premium plans and $20/month plans. The same is true of S Indiana and NW Kentucky, which I'm thinking about moving to -- just fewer plans. Evansville and Owensboro are smaller towns, so that makes sense.
I'll ask some local vision places and dentists if they accept MA plans. As far as I've researched, they can't turn you down if they accept Medicare itself.

If you guys haven't seen A Christmas Story Christmas, watch it. It's done very well. The entire cast came back in their original roles. Takes place in 1971, and is pretty much a tribute to "the old man". Ralphie, grown up and now a writer, with a wife and family of his own is summoned home by 'mom'. It's very nicely done with many nice throwbacks to the original. A few dusty moments as well.
