Brazil is pretty huge. But it's huge in the way China is huge. Huge and mostly useless. In China, it's loess that makes it useless. In Brazil it's useless jungle. But they're both gigantic, nearly useless places. Not like the US, or Canada, or Russia, which are gigantic, mostly useful places.

Missed J.J. this morning. So, Verse for the day:
Psalms 59:2-5 Rescue me from evil-doers, from men of violence save me. Rescue me from my enemies, my God; lift me out of reach of my foes. Deliver me from evildoers; from the bloodthirsty save me. They have set an ambush for my life; the powerful conspire against me. For no offense or misdeed of mine, LORD, for no fault they hurry to take up arms. Come near and see my plight! Well, I got the toppled-over engine in the back of my Suburban set back upright. Dumped a lot of oil out the dipstick tube, and cracked the heater outlet nipple on the water manifold. No other damage.
I am midway through constructing a transport cradle made of 1 1/4 by 2 1/4 rectangular steel tubing. Front and rear end piece built, and they are supporting the weight right now. Need to add longitudinal and transverse diagonal braces for stability, and angle iron skids underneath so it can be slid around. But I ran out of daylight today. @77 Well it is and it isn't.
As davidt noted above, Too bad the bottoms don't match. I'm in some hope that it's meant to have a flange or mounting plate welded to that junction. You know, "where the carb goes." Must be some pretty heavy gauge tube, or they'd have bent it, up to where they join. I imagine most places would 3D print a form of that now, and sand cast it. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? ...Must be some pretty heavy gauge tube, or they'd have bent it, up to where they join. I imagine most places would 3D print a form of that now, and sand cast it. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at December 15, 2023 10:43 PM (FCs/J)
A sand-cast item of those dimensions, even in stainless, would have to have a wall-thickness about 50% greater than the welded-up sections as seen in the ONT pic. Material density, possible porosity, etc. Strum-Ruger & Company don't only make Investment Cast firearms, but they also do the Investment Casting for +/- 80 of the various metal golf-club heads made in the U.S., for most every brand name maker. I think it's likely that Ruger could make an Investment Cast version of that "Y" pipe. Their process might also involve a centrifugal casting process, so as to let some addtional "G-force" spin the molten stainless into a denser finished product than a mere gravity pour, alone. So I saw It's A Wonderful Life for the first time tonight.
First off, the Blu-ray looks great. Secondly, Donna Reed is freakin' deeeeeelicious! Third, Mr. Potter was right.* I know George Bailey is supposed to be the good guy but he seems to have this bubbling undercurrent of resentment at everyone around him. He continually sacrifices his own happiness for others and gets pissed on that he's clearly bitter about his entire life. So finally he explodes at his family, which is way more than he deserves, and finally runs off to kill himself. He's too spineless to even ask for help from all the people he's helped, it's up to his wife and uncle to take the initiative. What I'm saying is George Bailey is a douchebag and borderline failure living in the shadow of greater people because he lacks balls. It's a fine movie with a great ending but it's a moral abomination. *Mr. Potter only fucks up once when he keeps the money Uncle Bailey misplaced instead of giving it back. That's his only verifiable crime. Otherwise Mr. Potter is only the villain because he's a great success and doesn't apologize for it. Fucking New Deal morality, maaaan. I'm going to have to eventually find a home for my BIL's 2 dogs. One is a little dog, not sure the breed, has a wavy shorter golden coat, kinda looks like a Papillon in the face, but without the tall ears. Maybe a toy spaniel. I'm not usually a fan of small dogs, but this one is a sweetheart. She'll jump in your lap and stand up and then fall backwards into your arm and just stare at you, then after a moment she'll lean forward and try to lick your face for not petting her, lol. The other is an english setter, almost a year old, female, on the smaller side like her mother. Very active and really needs space, like a farm or some shit. Its hyper, always wants to play, but does eventually settle down. My BIL always had hunting dogs, always trained them great, but he just wasn't well enough to do it with this one. I think the one daughter wants the little one, but not sure if she can actually take it. I guess I'll know more somewhat soon.

Weirddave. Have Little apply at Subsea Systems, in Webster, TX. Next door to NASA's Johnson Space Center.
They not only make a great deal of deepwater gear made to operate at "those" depths and pressures, but also a lot of the Practice Pool fixtures that NASA uses for Astronaut Training there at JSC. Oh, and his pay would be nearly double that of the FAA offer. No, it's not a Saturation Diving job, (unless he wants it to be), but again, they MAKE a lot of the systems that go into deepwater ROVs and the like. Some of that is what might be called "watchmaker grade" welding. What we call "exotic", they call their everyday work outputs. However if you are not "of the body" law-enforcement suddenly becomes a fusion of the Amazing Karnak, the Mentalist, and Sherlock Holmes and is able to deduce things down to 404 years of intent. "Mister Doe was geotagged as being present in the Eastern Time Zone on J6, he had in his possession two weeks prior a lego set, using this lego set Mister Doe was intending to massacre 535 people altering the course of American history your honor!" I see the current existence of 2 carrier groups within that region as Biden's "bludgeon" against Israel if they don't toe the line on a cease fire timeline that the CSPOS Blinken will direct them to. Falaymeyon
Early 1950s, Jinja, Uganda. Morning meat market. Mostly on the ground on banana leaves, some in proper cement stalls (easy to hose down). The meat is fresh. So are the flies. Mum and I go to "our" butcher at one of the covered stalls. Mum gets a whole falaymeyon, several pounds, for about 1 or 2 shillings. (20 shillings to 1 pound sterling). Butcher cuts it out of the hanging carcass in front of the customer. Take it home, give it a rinse under the kitchen tap and stick it in the fridge. I ate fillet until the late 70s when the hotels started hoarding it and making it pricey and unavailable. Posted by: Ciampino - Those were the days my friend at December 16, 2023 01:05 AM (qfLjt) 215

That hot El Paso salsa? We have many Northerners here that are also needing mild sauces. Go to an Indian restaurant and order a hot curry. They will ask you if you are sure about the 'hot'.
Now the UK has so many Wogs from India and Pakistan that hot is too mild. In Australia, the influx of brown (boat) people probably has the same result. You know, just sitting here reflecting about my BIL. The thing that sucks is he wasn't just somebody who married Mrs B's sister. He was a friend loooong before that. I have known him since first grade. His father died in his 30's when he was very young, like 12. My own father kinda took him under his wing, almost as an honorary step son. My father liked to fish, and my BIL was practically born with a fishing pole in his hand. That dude was a fish whisperer. He could drop a line in a cesspool and pull out a tuna. He would catch fish when nobody around him was, and when his father died it came to an end. My father stepped in and always took him fishing. He was dating MrsB's sister in highschool, so I knew her looong before meeting Mrs b. They introduced us, but he was family long before we became BILs. At least I wasn't the only one that had to deal with the ham fairy. lol

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at December 16, 2023 01:57 AM (RSbhh) You know, maybe you'll understand this. Mrs b went to catholic school her whole life. She has a strong faith, but is quiet about it. You really would never know because she doesn't talk about it. I don't go to church, but she does, religiously, (no pun), and she sings in the choir. Its rare that I'm in church with her, but with all the damn funerals lately I have been there with her more than usual. I feel like a wretch next to her, its a weird feeling. I watch her, her movements, how she knows every word, how she holds her arms out with palms facing up during some prayers in a perfect posture, and sometimes pressed together for other prayers, again in a perfect form. The last few times it was like a felt some weird presence, but couldn't put my finger on it. I'm thinking its maybe just the power of the church messing with my mind. Today though, I realized its her. She radiates it and I almost feel small next to her. Does any of this make sense? Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at December 16, 2023 02:12 AM (VwHCD) 278

Doggie wanted out again. I checked the outside thermometer. Now +2 C, or almost 36 F. That's about a 2 degree per hour increase. Definitely a Chinook at work. Trouble is, it's a battle between two high-pressure systems, and it can go back and forth, and often a dump of snow results, like it did yesterday.

Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at December 16, 2023 02:18 AM (e6UQI) yeah, but then there's that attitude of mine that I don't trust man to speak for god. Just today, perfect example. There's My BIL in the casket in the church, with his whole family around him, and the priest makes a comment that you can't go to heaven if you don't go to confession. My BIL didn't go to church or confession, and here is a priest in front of his family saying yeah sucks to be you buddy. Even Mrs b questioned that one, she thought it was a terrible thing to say and didn't believe it herself. Thats a classic example of why I don't go. Today though, I realized its her. She radiates it and I almost feel small next to her. Does any of this make sense? It's not her, although she is awesome. She's the conduit, no, the example. What is she radiating? What's the source? That's what you should think, and if you're so inclined, pray, about. The entire key to Christianity, and what differentiates it from every other religion, is found in Revelation 3:20. "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Christianity does not insist on itself, like Islam. It offers itself. Whether or not you embrace it is up to you. In any event, I grieve with you for your BIL. May his memory be a blessing. I offer the same to DDS. Posted by: Weirddave at December 16, 2023 02:35 AM (OvWBp) 289

-------- Wow, that's harsh. I grew up Lutheran, so different rituals, but I'm with you in *not trusting man to speak for God*. Haven't been to church in decades, except to accompany friends to their churches. Some of those "services" left me bewildered, particularly the newer DIY-styled ones. I always thought confession was between God and the individual? Guess there are different opinions on that, as well. Posted by: JQ at December 16, 2023 02:45 AM (njWTi) 291

You're on exactly the true course, there. Continue doing just that, and in time, your own faith will bloom, blossom and grow, in ways you cannot yet understand. But you will. I assure you, sir. You will. Simply let your words of faith pass by your lips, and speak them to Him. Not to me, not to Weirddave, but to HIM. ----------- We spent the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving camping on the AZ side of the Colorado River along the Parker Strip. The first evening, as we were lounging on a bench at sunset along the river bank, three middle-aged adults (rather portly, NTTAWWT) approached with RC monster trucks (with all kinds of cool lighting on top and underneath) hauling trailers with RC speedboats on them. We watched as they backed the trailers into the river from the beach, released the speedboats, and proceeded to spend 10 minutes whipping & zipping the speedboats around the river up to speeds of 50 mph. It was a lot of fun and a reminder to keep that kid inside of you alive ... Posted by: ShainS -- CISA Cognitive Security Agent at December 16, 2023 03:33 AM (0ogfQ) 301

Another night of insomnia for me, although I have to admit my sleep has improved from adding a couple of new routines: "discharging" by standing in earth each morning for 5-6 minutes, and then ending my morning shower with one minute of cold, running water (I literally start hyperventilating); I'm working my way up to doing a new fad called "cold plunging" in your own ice bath. Meanwhile, I mostly drink some whiskey or martinis to get myself back to a few more hours of sleep -- and I need to eventually cut that shit out. Cheers! Our neighbors? Hahaha, they have this illuminated figure which *was* in their yard but kept blowing over in the wind. It's now on their porch. Not a deer. A dog! 160 So I saw It's A Wonderful Life for the first time tonight. ... I know George Bailey is supposed to be the good guy but he seems to have this bubbling undercurrent of resentment at everyone around him.
