On return from X I tried to call for a taxi and my phone wouldn't work. Could not make a call. Tried calling anyone and nope. Turns out, I had disabled data roaming and turned off 4G VoLTE. My old Android phone is so old VoLTE is an option in Settings, and I failed to realize with the changeover I had effectively turned off the capacity to make phone calls.
All cell phone calls are VoLTE now, so I'd turned off my phone without realizing it. Whoops. Posted by: LenNeal at December 15, 2023 04:33 AM (/BBNv) 30

Look up the "Pioneer anomaly". It was thought for a while there may be never gravitational physics afoot, but no, it was just radiation pressure. Anyway, Voyager 1 is the fastest. I don't know if it's overtaken the Pioneers yet, but it's the fastest, in terms of hauling ass out of the solar system of any of the probes we've launched. Again, Godspeed Voyager 1. It will be in the neighborhood of the star Gliese 445 in about 40K years. Voyager 2, will be in the neighborhood of Sirius in about 296K years. Second brother has (IMO) a drinking problem, and gets very argumentative after 'having a few'-- seems his life is very unsatisfactory and he's unhappy. We speak frequently by phone, but last time he was soooo contrary, so combative. Just digging at me, and I've done nothing *to* him. Grrr! I couldn't handle it. I have more than enough problems here, and stress, and responsibilities, and this bro seems to think I have All The Time In The World (since no longer working for pay) and he doesn't comprehend hubby's mental & physical issues which add to my list every day. Nope, even Sirius won't be able to discern I love Lucy. Signal to noise will be too low. This is the problem with Seti. To get a signal, above the signal to noise threshold over these vast distances, you need a shit-ton of power, and you need to beam it directly toward where you're aimin'. “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.” - C.S. Traveling from east to west across Pennsylvania there is a section of the turnpike that runs through the 'icebox' of the state. The weather forecast may be clear at your starting point and at your destination but that about 30 mile stretch there are mountains of salt on the sides of the road. This time of year you'll go through a gallon of windshield wiper fluid trying to keep the windshield clear. Make sure you start out with the reservoir topped off. Posted by: Divide by Zero Skip those PA interstates if possible. Lots of roads can take you from East to West. Rt 30 and Rt 6 are two that come to mind. There are others. Depends where your starting off point is I guess. Posted by: Puddleglum, cheer up for the worst is yet to come at December 15, 2023 06:03 AM (sAmhv) 97

"Tesla Recalls Nearly All Vehicles Sold in U.S. to Fix System that Monitors Drivers Using Autopilot."
Can they just drive themselves to the dealer for the recall? Posted by: fd at December 15, 2023 07:36 AM (vFG9F) 188
JQ,
I've been through a similar situation. There's bad blood already so quit trying to be "nice". My sisters just broke into the house and took what they wanted. Then they got lawyers to sue me just as a harassment. It can get really bad so I recommend you moving fast before your brother gets any ideas. February in Dallas...below freezing...4 lanes of stacked traffic next to an open empty bike lane with no bikes.
I recall Texas spending over $1 billion to rebuild the Central Expressway. Most expensive TxDOT project to date when undertaken. No bike lane though. Posted by: DanMan at December 15, 2023 07:42 AM (8uzBS) 190
Thanks, pawn.
This bro doesn't have any $ for lawyer, and lives 1000 miles away, so not worried. But I will be moving quickly in the next few months. Posted by: JQ at December 15, 2023 07:46 AM (njWTi) 191
54 “The Network will be a space where all who want to save lives, drive solutions to climate-induced mobility and facilitate pathways to migration can work together. As migration grows and gets increasingly complex, the work of the Network will be even more vital.”

@fd
No, "recall" usually means they downloaded a new patch to the software on their own. The regulators make them call a automatic software update a recall. Posted by: DocMerlin at December 15, 2023 11:21 AM (jRh4q) 194
