Willowed. I gotta know.
-------------- 227 I took drivers ed after already being a driver for three years, for the insurance discount. We had MonteCarlos with 350s for the practical driving. The kind with a cable operated foot brake pedal on the passenger side for the teacher. I was behind the wheel stopped a light when I notice a dump truck rushing up behind us. The truck driver suddenly realized the light was red and hit the brakes but wasn't going to stop in time so I started to turn right to get out of his way but the teacher hit the brake and told me 'No turn on red'. I didn't have time to explain so I just floored the engine with him pushing with all his might on the brake. The Chevy drug itself around the corner with the engine screaming, truck tires screaming, and all of us in the car screaming. "Um, that's quite the inflation rate for ONE YEAR. 76.3%."
Someone who is better at math should correct me on this. but I think how it works is if you have 6% inflation in one month, and then 6% on top of that the next month, and 6% on top of that the month after, and so on and so forth, that would make your total year-over-year inflation something along the lines of 6% times 12 months. Which is 72% all on it's own. I feel like there should be some compounding effect somewhere in there, but I don't remember those equations. Some years back when we had two cats and a pet door for them to go outside at all hours, they would try to out do one another in the "I'm the Biggest Asshole Cat! No, I'm the Biggest Asshole Cat!" It was a simple exercise: whichever cat was on the side of the pet door to which the other was trying to go would give the door flap a good smack with its paw as the flap began to move when the other cat started to go through it. Both cats played both roles almost equally. I could never be sure the smackee knew what was the source of the strike as it was the door flap which actually made contact with its head. I was just pointing out that most people, unless they live hand-to-mouth, do not measure the impact of inflation on their life savings by looking mostly (or only) at the cost of 1) groceries & 2) gas. Bidenomics/inflation doesn't affect everyone equally. However, the young & poor have gotten walloped the WORST of all, and that shows in the polls. I'm no economist or politician, but it amazes me that the Biden regime didn't see the iceberg dead ahead, unless they changed course rapidly back around early '22. Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at December 11, 2023 09:21 PM (NYzgN) *** Inevitable. And dangerous. Under the concept of mutually assured destruction, an anti-missile system that works is incredibly destabilizing. The reason is it gives the owner a genuine first strike capability. So the pressure mounts in the side without a system to strike while they still can. Posted by: Diogenes at December 11, 2023 09:27 PM (W/lyH) 175

Given all the other destructive policies Biden & the DEMs have pursued, I bet they aren't far away from trying to sell us on unilateral disarmament.

I was just pointing out that most people, unless they live hand-to-mouth, do not measure the impact of inflation on their life savings by looking mostly (or only) at the cost of 1) groceries & 2) gas.
... I'm no economist or politician, but it amazes me that the Biden regime didn't see the iceberg dead ahead, unless they changed course rapidly back around early '22. --- I don't doubt the premise of the former at all, but once those folks retire the energy and food (and everything based on food and energy) costs don't care. That $500K is worth $200K, and nothing can be done to keep up. Especially once you're near the point where you're supposed to be tucking everything away in non-risky investments to try and make your... uh oh, that $500K is worth $180K now... money last 30 years. As for the latter, I would suggest that was the plan. Fundamental transformation. I had a younger person at a local exhibition hall's security force tell me in no uncertain terms that their invoice had been one hour short because of the latest DST to ST time change. I said it most certainly did not, as her very own firm's invoice had the extra hour assigned -- properly -- to Sunday'e tally of hours worked. She insisted, repeatedly, however, that the extra hour belonged in Saturday's tally. I finally said, "You are in error; we have already paid for it, and I'll not be sending to you a check for $65." Her squawking stopped. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at December 11, 2023 09:39 PM (xG4kz) 181

There must be a difference between Being Old and Acting Old on The Internetz. Because I remember the "Mayberry" days very well, and I recall how we-all-'uns passed the time, whittling and spitting on Main Street: we bitched about how expensive everything was. Constantly, and it was a crisis point. We were dying of it. Some of you are just going through the motions.
Squealing about good old days, that weren't particularly, is how the formerly important, used to be powerful, too big for britches have always frittered away their little remaining time. So you see, some things have not changed all that much. If it makes you feel better, everybody in Mayberry was a democrat, guaranteed, and Andy was right to the bitter end, campaigning for ObamaCare. "But it was different then." No. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at December 11, 2023 09:43 PM (FCs/J) 185

62 "Um, that's quite the inflation rate for ONE YEAR.
Posted by: FeatherBlade at December 11, 2023 08:01 PM (ou9hh) Math. Okay! First, I believe the number is 6%/yr for that particular month, so that would be: 6% If inflation was increasing at 6%/month, that would be the equivalent of (1.06)^12 = 2.012 -> 101.2% annually. This number is more like 4.8%/month... Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at December 11, 2023 09:46 PM (ynpvh) 189
