They don't call numbers in order here. That way you don't know how long you'll have to wait. But, you have to make an appointment too. No walk-ins.

TN DMV? If so, I had a high number too. Thought I would be there for ever but was called within 30 minutes or less. The clerks were polite and pleasant and I was out of there in no time with my new TN drivers license.

I watched the highlights of the Mecum Auto Auction in Kansas City from a month ago.

The cars sold for a SIGNIFICANTLY lower price than they would've a year ago.

Vettes were going for under 70k and a 70 Roadrunner Super Bee went for under 80k.

It depends. Businesses still invest in deflations and people still buy. Hell, electronics have been in price deflation for forty years. Improved efficiency results in natural deflation anyway. The fact that we've have decades of generally-increasing productivity with inflation at the same time is an indicator of just how much has been stolen.

But deflation *is* bad for asset values, since the assets are propped up by debt and deflation is very bad for debt. Deflation means that a debt-financed investment had better damn well be worth it. All marginal investments fail. But that *also* has the effect of redistributing wealth from the debtors to the creditors. The entire ruling class are debtors, even (especially) the hyper-rich. The assets under it are all debt-fueled, as are the governments. They fear deflation not because it causes a death spiral, but because it destroys *their* positions.

That sounds too rosy. It's more likely a "deflation" period is happening because there are no buyers. Your economy is sinking, and overproduction happened because they thought things would continue, and they didn't.

Look at the truck market right now. When all those '23 models are sitting on the lots, they're going to have to be marked down eventually, and still, I'm not sure anyone's going to buy them.

That's when the government will again step in and bail out the automakers.

Deflation and inflation both happen under hard currency, too. The 19th century had several of each, gold standard be damned. Hard currency helps prevent excesses of money printing, but it is not immune to boom/bust cycles or inflation/deflation cycles. Those cycles usually come from credit, not from the underlying money. As credit goes crazy, you get inflation because there's lots of new money (debt and money both spend the same - they're fungible). As credit starts defaulting and lending declines or even locks up, you get deflation as the money is destroyed (for the same reasons). Fiat currency, gold, whatever - the credit cycle remains.

Hard currency enforces discipline that fiat does not, but it does remove the dynamic.

Sometimes. It comes down more to intervention behavior than the monetary system at play. The Great Depression was under the gold standard (though they did outlaw gold ownership so as to arbitrarily devalue the currency - a major intervention).

Wade in to lessen the blow and you can get some success - but at the cost of extending the condition. If you intervene to decrease the frequency of events (which the Fed has been doing for a long time, except Vocker), you increase their amplitude.

Ok, last I'll say this morning. I don't know that the Mavs are being marked down. Maybe, but it seems the bigger trucks are the ones that aren't selling.

Toyota is teasing a smaller truck to compete with the Mav, and me being diametrically opposed to the domestic auto companies, if I was going that small I'd wait. As it is, I've been looking online at all the info on the '24 models, Taco v. Ridgeline, mostly, but nobody's getting them on the showroom floors yet.

The last few seasons they went sort of woke and made Archer a doofus . I was really glad they went back to the original formula for the finale.
