Selected the 2009 because it was simply in better condition. Frame was mint, zero rust, engine purred like a kitten, handling was stellar, all in all, a very good vehicle. Basically the last 60 years of government pronouncements about food were 100% wrong. Carb heavy foods like potatoes or rice taste great, but presuming you aren't heavily working out they make it really easy to too much. Posted by: 18-1 at December 16, 2023 10:06 PM (XqcwY) 34

During Rona we had an enterprising thief come into the supermarket encased in a mask, hoodie and gloves; he walked in wearing an ID lanyard, went into the liquor department through the dock entrance, loaded two carts full of very high-end product, loaded them into a totally nondescript white minivan (turned out to be stolen plates) and drove away. We could not even tell you what race the guy was and assume it was a guy due to gait and lifting ability.
We have about a million liquor vendors who stock their weird individual products, nobody thought anything of it. Honestly we were kind of impressed, that shit was bold. Posted by: LenNeal at December 16, 2023 10:19 PM (/BBNv) Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 16, 2023 10:19 PM (MoZTd) 71

I enjoy reading sci-fi, but you're right: as a guide to the future, it's pretty much useless. For example, consider the moon landings. Countless sci-fi stories described our first trip to the moon, but nobody, nobody at all, predicted what actually happened: that we would land six times, then just stop. In one of Williamson's interviews he mentions in passing that Freud was not originally very prestigious and therefore had a restricted clientele.
One of his female patients basically wanted to just talk and talk while he listened and it did seem to help her and thus was born the now common idea of the patient sitting on the couch talking away while the pysch takes notes. New Jersey story. I had delivered a van load in Newark, perhaps. Cities tend to run together up there. I was pulling a 48' trailer and had my 12 year old son with me. I got lost and ended up in a residential area. I decided to try and make a block to turn around, and took a left. It was a cul-de-sac. Cars were parked all around.
I had my son get out and watch my trailer as I tried to turn around. About then some guy came out of his house and started call me names I've never heard before. My dander got up and I was giving as good as I got. Evidently my son had been talking to his wife, as she shouted, "It's OK honey, they are from Louisiana". That seemed to satiate him for some odd reason. Rather that turn around I decided to just back down the street, cross the main street, and go back where I came from. There was a cop on the corner and I asked him to stop traffic for me and he said, "Nope". I just said fuck it, put the beast in reverse and backed across. Picked up my son and got the hell out of there. Posted by: javems at December 16, 2023 11:45 PM (u3z76) 216
Yeah, gender bending (cross dressing and the like) was big in Weimar. Of course, they weren't going as far with it then as we do now with the mutilation surgeries. The medical tech hadn't progressed enough. But I think, the Germans were sort of pioneers in this even back then. How can we make a man a woman, and all that. Weimar is good analog of where the West is now. I've always used for the hyperinflation/economic collapse and debauchery, but we're getting a good dose of the Jew hate Weimar style as well now. So I watched white Christmas for the first time today.
Pretty good. Pretty good. Not as good as Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn had a thin veneer of a plot that was an excuse for the song and dance routines which is really all you wanted and it moved rapid fire from one sequence to the next.White Christmas was considerably longer and had way more plot. It kind of dragged. At some point I started to get impatient. That said it was still really very good and Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen were just so...yum. I did really dig that the plot centered around Crosby and Kaye trying to help their former commanding officer m, Dean Jagger, from the war. There's that moment where Jagger "inspects" the "troops" in the finale and he's getting overcome with emotion that is wonderful. It's just a great moment and I enjoyed it very much. Definitely worth the watch. Posted by: Robert at December 17, 2023 01:03 AM (1Yy3c) 272

Oddly, I must have missed a generation. I understand my husband, and he understands me. That doesn't mean we think alike, because we certainly don't. Mostly it means we know how the other is going to act, and adjust accordingly. I don't take away his joy and he doesn't take away mine. We are rock solid because we respect each other, no matter our differences, and we are both rowing in the same general direction.
It's not that difficult. I will never be a man, and he will never be a woman, but we are a couple, now and forever. Posted by: tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief at December 17, 2023 12:38 AM (sRfrW) I think everyone who's achieved a relationship like that knows that it's a reflection of how much effort both parties put into it. It doesn't just happen. And this is not meant to disparage anyone who's marriage has fallen apart, because it takes *both* parties working diligently over time to make this happen. Either one can sabotage it easily. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 17, 2023 01:10 AM (S6gqv) 281

Lookin' forward to seeing the pics of the install, if so! Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at December 17, 2023 01:06 AM (e6UQI) It is going into a real cool old car, a '51 Studebaker 2-door that was campaigned as a drag racer. Has a Champion body and frame, Commander rear axle and brakes with home-made traction bars. Three-speed transmission with a floor shifter. Tiny little Champion brakes on the front, and a '53 or '54 232 V8 engine. Engine would not run, is missing #1 intake valve, and #1 piston is holed. I think driver missed a shift, LOL. So the engine I am toting down is a good running '54 232, which has lowish miles on a rebuild. It does run, and I cleaned it up, made it pretty. An exact replacement for the ones that's there. I am also taking a set of serviced 11-inch Commander front brakes, and a serviced master cylinder. Hope to make it be able to move itself, and stop in the driveway. I also wonder if there is a feeling that the Jews of Israel are apostates. The Jews that these hamsters interact with (if they even realize it) as we have noted before are probably often ideological allies here. Note: this makes the argument that they see them as enemies of their 'tribe', which is communist/woke/'Elite'/Leftist. My point would be that 'racism' usually grows out of tribal dynamics and the commies are merely seeing them as enemies of leftism, therefore Other. Ideological rather than racial basis.
