Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | 89 Republicans Join Democrats to Expel George Santos from Congress; Republicans Also Refuse to Hold Vote to Expel Fire-Alarm-Puller and Insurrectionist Jamaal BowmanThe vote is just finishing up. It took a two-thirds vote to expel him, so all the Republicans had to do was not give enough votes to the minority of Democrats in the House to get to two thirds. From CNN:The House voted to expel indicted GOP Rep. George Santos over ethics violations, making him only the sixth lawmaker ever to be kicked out of the chamber. The resolution passed with a tally of 311-114, with 105 Republicans voting in favor. All four top House GOP leaders voted to keep Santos in Congress.George Santos is being expelled because he lied and committed some minor crimes. In the past. Not as a Congressman. Jamaal Bowman also lied and committed crime -- he pled guilty to falsely pulling the fire alarm, and did so as a Congressman, to block an act of Congress (which we all now is insurrection). But few Republicans have the guts to vote to expel him. Now that Santos has been expelled, that resolution will not move forward. Chaya RaichikRepublicans also voted, of course, to strip Santos' constituents of any Representation in Congress. They elected Santos as part of a general repudiation of Democrat politicians in New York State. But now they'll have no Representative at all, at least until Kathy Hochul schedules a special election, which of course she can take months and months and months to do. (Representatives cannot be appointed or replaced by a governor. They can only be elected by the people. But state laws vary as to how long one can dally in calling a special election.) Good work, Republicans. With your every word and deed you demonstrate anew the necessity of your complete repudiation and abandonment. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

But few Republicans have the guts to vote to expel him. Now that Santos has been expelled, that resolution will not move forward. ++++ Of course not. They have no beef with Bowman or any other Democrat. They have a problem with rogues within their own ranks - the kind of people that aren't down with the Uniparty and will question - or even worse, remove - the GOP's feckless and corrupt leaders. I suspect a key reason why governors are able to appoint replacement for Senators is because Senators are supposed to represent the state legislatures.
The Seventeenth Amendment destroyed that, of course, but there's still some legacy to the old system in the way governors can replace Senators. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at December 01, 2023 12:07 PM (7fElN) 39

The fact that no GOPe candidate can get within 50 points of Trump in the primary is an important part of that. Really, though, the party needs to be taken over from the ground up. Taking over state apparatuses and fundraising so that changes can happen there first. Hard to tell how well that's going, but when a state like TN starts making serious noises about dropping federal funds for education, it does make you wonder. President Biden is facing a humiliating foreign policy setback as $6 billion he used to leverage the release of five imprisoned Americans from Iran could be frozen. Lawmakers including members of Biden's own party voted on Thursday to approve a bill that would permanently freeze the funds, which were unfrozen by the White House in September as part of a controversial deal. The bill, named the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act, passed in a 307 to 119 vote - which was approved by almost every Republican and 90 Democrats.

But the GOP *will* die unless it undergoes titanic reform, and it is utterly uninterested in reform.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) --------- The donors run the GOP and the donor class in the GOP is interested in status quo of open borders, military actions everywhere, low taxes on the wealthy plus corporations, and offshoring. They are also much more liberal than the bulk of the Republican party on social issues such as transexuals, crime and criminals, abortion on demand, and other such issues. So roughly half of the GOP in Congress represent the donor class rather than their constituents which leads to an inability to build a successful platform. The Whigs disintegrated because they could not answer the question of the day which was slavery and their attempts to substitute Unionism and manifest destiny ultimately split the party. The GOP is repeating the same formula today in not addressing the key issues requiring a change in status quo and that is because of the GOP's donor and candidate class. Posted by: MAGA_Ken ------- Some are and some are not. Essentially the GOP has not been a populist party since Teddy Roosevelt and decided under Mark Hanna to promote business interests over popular ones. So you look more for the protected classes that are insulated from the disastrous effects of the policies that they promote. Britain has and had the same problem with its Conservative party with the 'toffs'. The Democrats were long split between the populists and the elites and is a coalition of groups that believe themselves to be the 'outs' and that deserve their share of the pie (aka soft Marxist/Socialists) and more recently that has been hijacked by the identity movement of social Marxism focusing on race and sex as the enemy of the people. I've been thinking about how New England was probably were the modern fraud machine started. Yes the cities in New England are all hard left. But...get outside the cities and its almost all what we would call "far right". So I understand the districts that have cities, even small ones, have Ds. There was a 40 year period where the GOP was the minority party in the House. I guess that’s the good old days. I understand pessimism but you guys always bring it to a new level. Even when we win it’s not enough . Just look at the downplaying of DeSantis making Newsom his bitch.

I was hoping conservatives in TX-1 would vote against Dan Crenshaw in the general last year.
I was told that I wanted Democrats to rape our future for advocating that. Posted by: TheJamesMadison ---------- Too many people are wedded to team spirit and identity rather than actual policy measures. They get bitter and nasty when you criticize their 'team's' performance or candidates. Anyone that has seen Congress critters or other politicians such as governors up close in their native environment with their obsequious and sometimes traitorous staffs would believe that they are saints. The system of popular representation is bad but better by comparison in the long run than dictatorship, oligarchy, or anarchy. Posted by: whig at December 01, 2023 01:06 PM (MtF+v) 416

DeSantis biggest donor recently switched support to Trump. Is Trump stepping and fetching now?
Posted by: Drive by -------- The only way to play donors is from a position of strength where they pay for access but are precluded from much influence. That means the candidate can take them or leave them. If the donors were instrumental in getting the candidate into office, then you owe them a greater burden. DeSantis is a very smart guy, very locked down, but he had the misfortune of getting Cruz leftovers to populate his campaign because of donor pressure most likely. Essentially those idiots ran the campaign as revenge for Cruz in 2016 instead of NASCAR like drafting behind Trump and ambiguity. Challenging a former president for nomination (or a former/current VP) is always difficult in the first place but his team blew a lot of money on pointless media too early and their stunts have backfired like the Where's Melania idiocy. Posted by: whig at December 01, 2023 01:13 PM (MtF+v) 429
@414 Drive-OMFG always with ".....b, b, but Trump!!!"
Maybe. I have reservations about Trump possibly going soft. It can be in the event Trump wins, he's trying to curry favor. Maybe the donor wants to back a winner. Nice try with the gotcha bullshit though. Posted by: JROD at December 01, 2023 01:13 PM (IlL6s) 430

just curious. Posted by: Inogame ------ Yes. Unlike impeachment which has a separate voted upon bar to future office, expulsion does not.
