Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Welcome Back My Friends, The ONT, It Never EndsI'm so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside! Well, Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, which means we're now officially in Christmas season! Hate to break it to ya, but we're 25 days from Christmas. Axe Guy Or Sword Guy? So, this has been bouncing around social media this week. Who wins here?Hockey 'Alcohol-fueled incident' reportedly led to Corey Perry's release by Blackhawks According to the report, it’s unclear exactly where the incident took place. However, a report later Wednesday from Daily Faceoff reporter Frank Seravalli suggested booze might have been involved. Citing sources, Daily Faceoff said an “alcohol-fueled incident involving Perry” was alleged to have happened during “an event that included corporate partners and team employees in attendance.”I don't know what happened, but I did want to note the event, because this is the first time in recorded history that a hockey player has acted out due to alcohol consumption. So it's noteworthy. Ssssssmokin'! Question for the Horde. I have an old upright freezer that's given up the ghost. I was planning on hauling it to the dump, but my wife said “Make it into a giant smoker”. I can see how to do it, it wouldn't be hard – attach a firebox to the bottom and add a stovepipe to the top – but I'm wondering if the interior, which seems to be some type of plastic, and the gaskets could handle the 200-250 degree heat you'd get in a smoker. Anyone got any input? Ouch Cross-country skier Remi Lindholm suffers frozen penis in mass start race The men’s 50km mass start race at the Beijing Games was shortened to 30km but that did little to help Finland’s Remi Lindholm, who needed a heat pack at the end of the race to thaw out a particularly sensitive body part. Lindholm spent just under an hour and 16 minutes traversing the course in howling, freezing winds, leading to his penis becoming frozen for the second time in a cross-country skiing race following a similar incident in Ruka, Finland last year.Every man reading this just nervously crossed their legs. Inshallah Islamism is a failed ideology. Muslims must embrace the West Our Westernized life copied consumerism but left out values such as liberty, freedom, and equality. The result was a society that was Western on the outside but backward and tribal on the inside. Our societies produced states that were in our image: Sovereign on the outside but failing on the inside. State failure gave rise to nativist Islamism. Islam the religion we already practised. The new brand was Islamism, in which Islam decided – not only our spiritual and social lives – but all other aspects of our lives, including government, politics, economics and military. In Islamism, the West stopped being a model worth emulating and became a punching bag on which Islamist movements blamed our failure. Islamism argued that our countries were not backward because we didn’t emulate the West enough, but because we imitated the West too much. We had abandoned our orthodox Islamic creed, under pressure from the imperial West, whose plan was to make us abandon our religion and spread its own – materialism and Christianity. To fix our countries and beat the West, Islamism said that we had to revive Islam the exact same way it was practiced in the seventh centuryThe Franco-English writer Hilaire Belloc said this about the difference between the barbarian and the civilized man: The Barbarian hopes — and that is the mark of him, that he can have his cake and eat it too. He will consume what civilization has slowly produced after generations of selection and effort, but he will not be at pains to replace such goods, nor indeed has he a comprehension of the virtue that has brought them into being. Discipline seems to him irrational, on which account he is ever marveling that civilization, should have offended him with priests and soldiers.... In a word, the Barbarian is discoverable everywhere in this, that he cannot make: that he can befog and destroy but that he cannot sustain; and of every Barbarian in the decline or peril of every civilization exactly that has been true. We sit by and watch the barbarian. We tolerate him in the long stretches of peace, we are not afraid. We are tickled by his irreverence; his comic inversion of our old certitudes and our fixed creed refreshes us; we laugh. But as we laugh we are watched by large and awful faces from beyond, and on these faces there are no smiles. And that's the problem we face. Any society that tries to model itself on 7th century values, ANY 7th century values, Muslim, Christian, English, Chinese, whatever, is going to be barbaric. Remember “nasty, brutish and short?” Islamism is a movement seeking to embrace those values, and it's cheered on and supported by modern “progressives” who believe that the very thing that led mankind out of barbarism and into modern civilization, the western values of individual liberty and equality, are evils that mast be eliminated. It's an unholy alliance that will lead to the new dark ages if it isn't defeated. Disorder In The Court A right to expose a minor but no right to be free of Pfizer? You have the right to expose kids to drag shows, but you do not have the right to bodily autonomy free of forced COVID mRNA jabs. That’s the upshot of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent refusal to hear a pair of cases — one from New Jersey, the other from Florida — that go to the heart of the First Amendment. Once again, Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett proved to be disappointments. And once again, we see how federal courts that are missing in action in the fight to protect real rights in blue states can be counted on to impose phantom rights in red states. The justices denied an appeal from New Jersey nurses who were forced to get the dangerous COVID jab or lose their jobs in state hospitals. A federal district court ruled in 2022 that no rights were violated by the state. By the time the case reached the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit earlier this year, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy had lifted the mandate, so the matter was considered moot. It’s the same problem we seem to always have with election cases. When we ask the courts to weigh in, they refuse. When we finally gain some traction in the fact-finding portion of the matter, a judge will say the question is moot, and we’re back to square one. Better luck next time! And when it comes to biomedical tyranny mandates, there will be a next time. The courts aren't going to save us, folks. Too much of Leviathan's unconstitutional power is now considered precedent or settled law. Article III is the shortest of the three articles defining the three branches of government, and the least detailed. In hindsight, that's a major weakness. If I were transported back in time, I'd do my best to get the founding fathers to include language along the lines of “The court's sole and overriding objective when adjudicating cases involving the US government shall be to limit the government's exercise of power and to constrain its reach to only those powers expressly and clearly enumerated in this constitution. Furthermore, in all such cases the starting assumption must be that the government does not have the right to take any action unless and until the government clearly and definitively demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that its actions are permitted under the enumerated powers defined in this document”. Might not make a difference, but it would be nice to have a mission statement. Islamism is a failed ideology. Muslims must embrace the West Is it? Really? Is what Klaus Schwab is offering better? Islamism exists because the traditional west killed itself and the new West is hell. I saw some graffiti from somewhere Muslim land. It had a mural of some kids crouching with a rainbow umbrella dripping on them...stopped by an umbrella with Sharia written on it. Yes it was written for a western audience since the text was in English...but...this is quite the appeal isn't it? Two guys on the steps? lower guy with sword retreat, get around the pillar and cut a tendon.
I would go into detail but I've been in fights on steps and in every case the lower guy, unless there is a crush of meat that can bury him, has the advantage. If you have a slashing weapon and the legs are exposed that guy above you can't hit with enough accuracy to brain you before you cut him off at the ankles. On level ground this does not work but steps are different. Especially winding steps, those pose specific problems. Posted by: LenNeal at November 30, 2023 10:14 PM (/BBNv) 29

100 years ago were this to have happened you would have some nurses, or whatever organization was being threatened, show up at one of the bosses houses and beat the shit out of him. And this would go on until the requirement went away. Now we send sue and the cases go nowhere. Remember when Kari Lake sued because the election was being stolen in front of everyone and the court told her to pound sand? Get used to the courts ruling that way. Godzilla Minus One
Very good. I liked it. Definitely a recommend. It's not actually a remake of the original but has elements of the original. It's about a kamikaze pilot who pusses out and while he's on a small atoll used by the Japanese to repair planes, a small Godzilla about the size of a T-Rex attacks and kill everyone but him and one other guy. He eventually gets home at war's end. His family is dead, his neighbor's family is dead and he meets a girl whose entire family is dead but is carrying a child that's not hers...cuz her family is dead. Small Godzilla is eventually irradiated at Bikini Atoll and turns into big Godzilla. Big Godzilla eventually goes on the rampage. It's very good. There's a fair amount of decent character drama involving the pilot and the girl he meets. He's struggling with inner turmoil about not fulfilling his duty to waste his life. The destruction is pretty cool. Ginza gets torn to shit. Godzilla lumbers around fairly slowly but his atomic fire breath is really cool the way his spikes pop out while he's "charging." I'd have to watch it again but I feel that this is overall one of the better Godzilla movies in the series. Posted by: Robert at November 30, 2023 10:19 PM (1Yy3c) 40
The problem isn't the Constitution we have. The problem is that no one will bother to enforce it.
Solve the latter problem and the current document is fine. Write a new document with the same weak and corrupt men in office and you'll have the same problem. Hell, look at the second Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed. Plain English. Yet the debate is how much the government is allowed to infringe it - the left says completely, the right says somewhat. I've seen some videos of armored axe fights because apparently there are leagues where they do that now.
A lot of the fighting is actually pushing and trying to knock over the enemy because the damage you can do through a shield/armor is limited. In that case being higher is a major advantage - axe guy has the leverage. Posted by: 18-1 at November 30, 2023 10:26 PM (XqcwY) 63

In THIS picture, the lower guy has the advantage because it's harder to defend the lower extremities. I think the central pillar is way less of an obstacle than the wall is. But in a typical defensive tower, the stairs wouldn't be this tightly wound, so there wouldn't be a central pillar to contend with, and the stairs would spiral in the other direction. This leaves the defender (usually on the high ground) with his right hand free to whale away with his weapon while the attacker has to deal with the wall.

To "stick" a landing is a term meant to denote that the athlete has accomplished the discipline in accordance with the rules of the competition.
Usually confined to the world of gymnastics. In this case, the little girl landed her jump on both her feet equally, in an upright position. WeirdDave - I wouldn't convert that freezer into a smoker, but (if I had the time, know-how, and a busted freezer) I would consider making it into a curing cabinet for salami, hams, etc. Basically, you turn the freezer into a miniature cave with the proper temperature, humidity, and air flow. The biggest takeaway from the debate wasn't either debater, it was the format. Hannity is an annoying twit but for once a debate was done on a center right format with actual facts instead of the usual leftwing emotion based dreck.

I was watching an interview between David Rubin and Eric Weinstein.
Weinstein is a somewhat reasonable leftist. The point of their discussion is that Eric is now making the rounds claiming that "we" might have to re-think the limits of how we are willing to react to Islamists and their western allies. And...its funny because everything he is saying is what the left as a whole says about...us. That because the jihadis want to engage in genocide and end free society we should be willing to do things like take away their free speech. And...his point isn't terrible - the US government did all sorts of things most Americans would consider beyond the pale now during WWII but I can't get over how he sounds just like a blue haired freaking claiming I should be imprisoned or even executed for not wanting to use "its" personal pronouns. One thing I do draw issue with, he discusses this as if it is something new. These sort of discussions came up all the time during the WoT, and as I mentioned the left as a whole has been talking about doing this to us since Biden was installed. https://youtu.be/fKolY2Zyvk8?si=bWaQs26l1_MAZPXY Posted by: 18-1 at November 30, 2023 11:23 PM (XqcwY) 226

A couple days ago, this site had a piece about bank branch closures. I saw this too late to comment and now it's seems to have dropped off the bottom of the page and my search fu can't seem to retrieve it.
One of those branches in Southern California is the local BofA, about two miles from my door. It's closing next September but it won't matter because our sole connection to it was my mother moving her accounts there about five years ago when the previous round of closures put the closest branch of her then bank in an inconvenient location. Though as fate would have I drive by it almost every weekday now. However, she died the Friday before Thanksgiving after years of decline with dementia. So, as soon as we've recovered the funds in those accounts (we already had POD when they were opened) we'll not have need of that or any other BofA branch again. looking at a couple reviews of the debate on the web tonight - one good point was how incredibly flabby, intellectually, the democrats have become. With a lapdog press and no dissent allowed, it never occurs to them that someone might actually challenge their narrative, and even provide facts and figures to show that they're wrong. Newsom's performance in the spotlight indicates that he never even considered that possibility.

So you don't remember Trump and many in his administration, ever Barr going on CNN, saying mass mail in voting would lead to election cheating for the entire election? Cause I do. What would you have suggested he do when absolutely nobody but some of us were listening? POTUS has no power over state led elections. Did anyone watch what happened today in the House hearing about censorship by the left in 2020 and beyond? The two people who testified about the whistleblower information are longtime liberals not conservatives. We all knew the cheat was happening, the people who mildly pushed back are in prison in DC or being indicted like Trump. Let's stop pretending anyone was going to stop the color revolution because only a few of us even talked about it and nobody did squat to stop it. Let's focus on stopping it from happening it again. So you don't remember Trump and many in his administration, ever Barr going on CNN, saying mass mail in voting would lead to election cheating for the entire election?
Yes - and hence why I'm so irritated with Trump. The media primed the pump, for about six months prior to the election, setting the narrative that the election would be rigged. They constantly told the story about how the totals would change over a matter of days. And yes, Trump seemed to understand that the election would be rigged, over a matter of days. Yet - there were no efforts to stop it as it occurred. No groups of lawyers landing at the five cities - Atlanta, Philly, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Milwaukee - even though the plan was quite literally given away, every day, for six months prior. And on the day after Election Day, while the steal was going ? Trump went golfing. Trump never said a word, for roughly two weeks, until it was too late. But yeah, Trump and Barr pretty much complained "yes, they're going to steal the election". But they didn't do anything to stop it before it was stolen, and did very little effectively to stop it while it was being stolen. Posted by: How Things Work at November 30, 2023 11:58 PM (YgIdg) 307

Was him being investigated for the first 2 1/2 year of his presidency for a fake Russia collusion hoax that not only was the entire deep state, the Democrat party but also a substantial part of his own party investigated for, a coup if you will, outside the norms? I think some of you still don't understand where we are. Our own government ran a color revolution against us. Nothing that has been going on since before Trump was sworn in was within the norms of this country for our entire history. We are at war with our own government which is why there are currently roughly 1000 political prisoners in prison for even protesting the coup. Our media is against us, our culture is against, big business is against us, the legal community is against us and our government is most definitely against us. We are the radicals. I take a back seat to no one in criticizing Trump's post election legal strategy and lack therof, even getting called a troll by Fenlon for being too caustic at the time.
But: 1) it's always been the party, not the candidate, who was responsible for safeguarding and litigation of the vote. They were all-but openly against Trump. 2) every court case prior to the election challenging the illegal rule changes were either dismissed as not ripe for "no harm yet" or no standing. Even Alito punted. 3) every court case after was dismissed for no standing or "too late" 4) even fundamental Bill of Rights guarantees like speech and assembly got bent over and gang raped for the Covid "health emergency" while all the courts stood by muttering in their beards. You really think they were going to jump to shut down a little stretching of election laws done to "save lives from the deadliest pandemic in 100 years?" You could have fielded the greatest lawyers of the last 200 years and the court outcome was going to be the same. PS: That said, I'm still pissed at Trump for going golfing right after. Morning, insomaniacals! Big black Stirling cat is home again (Miss Linda says she is holding little Dagny for ransom), and was right on the spot to keep me from going back to sleep just now. To be fair, I had not given him very much dry food last night. He thought he was being starved.
Linda's b'day is today, so I need to stop super-fast on the way home for a couple of cards. I have a new bar of artisan soap for her, and bought the new phone she wanted -- but QVC, without explanation, canceled the order and closed my account! I told her to find a new vendor. I've been looking into Kentucky, near the Ohio River, and southern Indiana as possible places to live, and am encouraged that both seem to be strong 2A states. Cost of living is reported to be low. House prices seem reasonable as shown on Realtor. No extreme winter, but no hurricanes -- or savage heat, at least not for the length of time I deal with in Da Swamp. The question is, how humid does it get? I expect it's probably better than here but not CO-dry.
Both have state income tax, but neither taxes SS payments. I could drive up to Evansville, say, in two days and look around over Xmas break. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 01, 2023 03:23 AM (omVj0) 466

I haven't lived in a two-story home since 1986. While I'm open to it, the drawback in a hot climate is that upstairs is always a bit warmer than I'd like. If the property I buy has central air, I'll run it while I'm downstairs, then push the unit's temp up and fire up a window unit in my bedroom when I go to bed. The same for a workroom if it's upstairs.
A three- or four-bedroom house would be a lot to keep clean, though. Think how much fun the cats will have galloping up and down a staircase! Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 01, 2023 03:32 AM (omVj0) 472

Posted by: JQ at December 01, 2023 *** We had a serious snowfall and freeze three days before Xmas in '89. I had a tiny fenced patio in my current apartment, so I let Arizona, the part-Maine Coon *, out in it. "Let's see how you deal with the conditions of your ancestral homeland." He acted about as you describe, JQ, though he had fur tufts under his paws, and held his face up to catch snowflakes. I got cold before he did and hustled him back inside. * So I fondly like to imagine. He was a beauty, but not a real Coon cat. He'd sit at the top of the stairs and I'd bat a ball of typing paper up toward him from the bottom. If it landed above halfway, he was to come down and bat it back to me. If it wound up halfway or below, I had to climb up and get it. Occasionally he'd sit and ignore one that landed in his territory. I'd say, "You can do better than that," and he'd get up, trot down, and swat the thing toward me again. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 01, 2023 03:41 AM (omVj0) 479

No way does that old fridge hold up to 200+ degree temps. However, it would make a kick ass cold smoker. You can just make a separate firebox and pipe the smoke across. I build one years ago, primarily for cold smoking salmon, and with a bit of experimenting found a 6 foot pipe allowed the smoke to cool enough before entering the smoker chamber to keep it at 70 degrees.

I WOULD NOT use an old refrigerator as a smoker, for the exact reasons you mention. It'll work a few times, but eventually give out. The plastic WILL melt, and the metal shell will warp. A few years ago, I read an article in WaPo's food section about a restaurant using an old walk-in refrigerator as a smoker. Can't remember how long it was used, but it eventually caught fire.
