I just disabled Microsoft's compatibility telemetry. The damn program would fire up every morning around 4AM, and run for an hour or two, consuming 25% CPU or so. It started this shit a while back. I got sick of it, and learned it can easily be disabled by Group Policy (provided you're running Win 10 Pro or better). I just did that. No more CompaTelRunner.exe going nuts. Hell, damn thing upped power consumption by 20-50W depending ramping up CPU on all the cores. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at November 20, 2023 05:33 AM (Mzdiz) 55
37 I just read the Wiki page on Dedekind numbers and am now educated on the topic.
Who am I kidding? I don't have a clue what I read. Posted by: Divide by Zero I read the article and didn't understand it, and then I looked at the diagrams of the smaller numbers and light dawned. If you have a digital control system with eight subsystems (2^3), and once a subsystem completes its task it doesn't go backwards, and the order of the tasks can branch out three ways after each subtask is completed, there are exactly twenty meaningfully distinct states that your system can find itself in. That's useful to know if you want to make sure that none of those twenty states result in a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly. With this 42-digit number it's much less useful, except that the way they calculated it was to prove that it had a symmetry with a much simpler problem with just 18 digits: They cut the problem down by a trillion trillion times. And that trick potentially is useful. Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 20, 2023 05:36 AM (BLOW1) 56

That's an example of a very arcane, highly specialized mathematical subject. It doesn't seem to have any general use, and is sort of a "curiosity". However, history is replete where such mathematical curiosities suddenly became very useful later on, perhaps decades after they were disovered. The mathematics of General Relativity, Differential Geometry in higher dimensions, is a big example. Why criticize Candace Owens?
She has falsely compared Israel to the “segregated South.” This is the Apartheid lie. Candace implied that Israel was engaged in “genocide” for defending itself. Candace Owens is a drama queen. There, I said it, now she can label me as a non-peacemaker or whatever. In my opinion, she uses her Christianity as a club to beat her opponents with as she rides a high horse. I don't think she's really studied the rest of the Beatitudes, and if she has, I don't think she's really taken the lesson of humility to heart.

On the subject of leaf blowers from the ONT, yesterday I saw one of the neighborhood kids using an electric one to pick up fallen leaves. He had hearing protection on, the machine was on the ground, and he was crawling around to push leaves from their pile into it. I hope this dispute between Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens is salubrious but not so far.
I haven't seen her talk with Tucker but I've read it doesn't address the substance of the dispute. Which I'm still trying to divine. There are many layers to it. But the view that "this is not my fight" or "it's a cycle" or "it's a blood-feud" or "it's about land" I think is very short-sighted and I hope at least I have been consistent and continuous in my own view. I have been rhetorically clawing on a whole lot of lib Jews the past few weeks and they don't like it. But They haven't had much to say in their own defense. 53 Local TV news reports an Amazon driver was kidnapped while making deliveries in tony San Ramon and taken to several banks forced to withdraw money from his bank account.
Posted by: San Franpsycho at November 20, 2023 05:28 AM (RIvkX) That sounds.....fishy. Who kidnaps an Amazon DRIVER - for their money? My bank has a limit on how much money I can withdraw in a day (I assume this "kidnapper" took him to ATMs to take the money out. All he would have to do is enter the wrong PIN a couple of times, and the machine would lock him out. If someone is driving an Amazon truck, chances are they aren't exactly rolling in dough. " All he would have to do is enter the wrong PIN a couple of times, and the machine would lock him out. "
I have always wondered why bank customers are not offered an optional 'SOS' pin for their card. When that pin is used, it immediately notifies police of a forced withdrawal, and puts the ATM machine in 'Slow' mode. Not enough to reject the transaction, but enough to delay the ejection of cash to allow Police time to respond. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at November 20, 2023 06:53 AM (hH3Px) 120

60 Why criticize Candace Owens?
While i can find criticism of Jews who use the Covenant as a shield without living the covenant, the right commentators who are excoriating Israel over a supposed genocide of Palestinians because there is some kind of firm line between a pali and hamas, and somehow Israel is supposed to deal with hamas without causing an ounce of disruption to a single pali, is fucking infuriating. And like DJT rooted out the squishes on the right, so too is this Israeli situation. MARIA CELESTE ARRARAS: Because the last thing we want is to have a foreign company with its own agenda, whatever it may be, exerting, if that’s the case, undue pressure on the electoral process. How do they exercise (undue pressure)? So, if these Latinos, no matter how intelligent they are, only see one side of what the news is and do not see it in its entirety, then obviously that is going to alter their perception and, therefore, their reality.

People show you who they are. The thing about all of this is that there should be room for criticism of Israel or even 'Jews' (although I think this is tricky simply because no one is monolithic. Does what Pope Francis, a vile commie does as the Pope tar all catholics. May be a bad example simply because of the inherent hierarchical nature of the Church.) There should be room for criticism of either without it being equated with antisemitism. It still can be, but there has to be a distinction. Otherwise you run into the problem of Israel or Jews being above any reproach- which is always a bad idea- no matter what country or group of people we are talking about. So now of course I am calculating how many more pies I need to make, lol. This will probably be his first home-cooked meal since last Christmas with his family.

McLaughlin reported that:
This as the Israeli military continues to search the hospital complex looking for any signs of what it alleges is a Hamas terror cell that it says was operating deep beneath the complex itself, so far presenting evidence of a tunnel, as well as weapons that it says it found on hospital grounds, but nothing definitive so far. I am going to guess that most of Univisions viewers are not legal voters anyway. So, what they think of DJT is irrelevant, because they will vote for biden whether they want to or not.

Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at November 20, 2023 07:37 AM (zZu0s) I don’t think we have to worry about that. There has never been a shortage of criticism regarding Israel or their actions toward the “paleostinians”. Posted by: Rufus T. Firefly at November 20, 2023 07:43 AM (iR91D) 208

Yeah, I don't think any group should be off-limits to criticism, as long as its informed. I'm somewhat taking Ben's side on this one as Candace is shooting off her mouth without really informing herself, hence the "faux sophistication" comment. And the information the IDF is putting out, especially about the Shifa hospital, is hurting the "both siiiiiiides" argument Candace has been pushing. Strahl?
Sounds German. Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at November 20, 2023 07:31 AM (zZu0s) I think it means "beam", like a beam of sunlight. I could also be completely wrong. As mentioned above, Microsoft has hired Alrman, plus Brockman and the rest of the 10X engineers, and will be spending 50B on data centers. Musk comments - at least now they will have to use Microsoft Teams instead of Google Meet.

>>>There is no cloud, there is only someone else's computers... Or your own.
On that note, Synology NAS does a decent job, if you keep it in your network, and perhaps set up a VPN to access your network from outside. I don't use their personal "cloudish" networking, only their file, note, calendar local apps. Next step is OMV.
