Starship's second test flight successfully reached space - and then went boom. (Ars Technica)

Not everything went to plan, but it went a lot better than the first test, with all 33 engines in the booster working, a clean separation of the second stage of the rocket, and reaching a height of nearly 150km before the automated self-destruct system got bored and decided to join in the fun.

Maybe they could put the 'Automated self destruct' on some sorta timer that once the rocket hits a certain altitude and is safely away from land and people it shuts off? Oh, I know, it's AI and no one should question it. Never mind.

I remember when the peeps in Mission Control all wore white short sleeve shirts with pocket protectors and smoked like fiends. Hardly the type to get all excited and congratulate themselves after the second RUD. The last forty years have sure seen some changes.

I'm watching the second stage burning away, the speed increasing, then suddenly to my eyes it 'sploded. But then I can hear these engineer types all clapping and acting happy and I'm like I guess my eyes lied to me. Nope, it blowed up real good.
