Woke Terror-Supporters Losing Jobs All Over

The law firm Davis Polk has rescinded offers to three students at Columbia and Harvard.

Two of the students are pulling the "we didn't read what we were signing but also we do totally excellent lawyerings" card. Davis Polk, unfortunately, says it may re-offer jobs to these obvious Legal Titans.

Davis Polk, one of the country's most prestigious law firms, recently rescinded employment offers made to three students who the firm believed led organizations at Harvard and Columbia that issued statements blaming Israel for the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas that left more than 1,400 Israelis dead.
On Tuesday, the firm said it was reconsidering that decision for two of the three students, who fought their dismissals and said that they did not authorize the letters, which did not have any individual signatories. The potential reversal highlights the complexities -- for both employers and employees -- of navigating what has quickly become one of the most emotionally divisive issues in recent decades.
The New York law firm said two of the students held leadership roles in groups that signed a letter at Columbia and one was affiliated with the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups, which jointly wrote a letter that held the "Israeli regime" responsible for the deadly violence.
The firm did not identify the students or which two of the offers it was reconsidering.

A doctor celebrated the death of Israeli children, which I think is against general medical imperatives.

Following these revelations, Diab's employer, Northwell Health, took swift action and announced via X (formerly Twitter) that she had been terminated. Northwell Health expressed its commitment to its core values and stated, "We've been alerted to discriminatory comments that appear to have been posted by a team member regarding the crisis in the Middle East. These views don't represent Lenox Hill Hospital & Northwell Health & go against our core values. We are investigating & taking immediate action."
The statement further expressed deep regret for the hurt and offense caused by the comments and emphasized that the views expressed by Diab do not align with the values of Lenox Hill Hospital and Northwell Health. As a result, Dr. Dana Diab is no longer employed with Northwell.

Finally, two men were spotted in Miami ripping down posters showing the faces of kidnapped children in Israel. They were allegedly ID'd.

NEW: Swiss university fires lecturer over pro-Hamas tweet

||“The university management takes this affair very seriously. The circumstances and the events which have taken place within the Institute will now be carefully clarified,” university rector Christian Leumann said in a statement.

The university had initially last week suspended the academic after the “unacceptable postings on X” came to light pending further clarification.

In confirming he had been dismissed the university added it “condemns all forms of violence and support” for violence.

“The termination without notice is due to the intolerable behaviour and the resulting loss of trust,” Christoph Pappa, secretary-general of the University of Bern, told reporters.|| AFP

I think this isn't quite right.

When public support is regularly very high for stuff like limiting immigration and Congress just doesn't do it, that's not the American people not agreeing on what is right and what is wrong. When Congress only spends its time passing massive CRs instead of actual policy, that's not necessarily a problem with the people.

I think this era isn't as analogous to the antebellum period as people like to make out. I think this is an entirely different set of problems.

One of the reasons that USSR could fall with relative grace - and that Britain could fall with relative grace before it - is because there was another and even more powerful player who could coordinate to fill the void. The collapse of both the USSR and of the British Empire were not world-historic disasters entirely due to the presence of counterweight that could open its treasury and diplomacy to soften the blow.

Polling majorities are by and large deceptive. I have no doubt that majorities in the 1850's if polling was around would reject secessionism until perhaps after Dred Scott.

For example, banning new immigration might get kudos from the public until you start getting the weepy stories of inlaws, the plight of refugees, and so on. It is massive distortions by fiat money which is destroying the ability to judge opportunity costs. The only thing that regularly makes returns is to make loans - to anyone or thing that can fog a mirror- and live off the interest.
The problem is that this is the procedure for the Euro and the Yuan as well, and since the whole thing is beginning to quiver and shake, the big money groups are trying to bring each other down so they can take over all the marbles.
Since the major use most Americans have for government is to either make other people give them money or keep other people from taking money from them, the whole struggle for the government is over who gets what from whom. That is why the fights are so strange and vicious.

Its fair to not like his move, and maybe he didn't have a Plan B. But Plan B's are backup for Plan A's not working. In this case, Plan A (the ousting of McCarthy) was successful. We may end up with a less conservative speaker ... we may end up with a more conservative speaker. It may simply be status quo (and isn't that how most of us would bet), so one could ask what was it for, or one could ask, why not at least give it a try.

I'm willing to wait and see what the process shakes out. The unknown is scary ... but it can also be hopeful.

When it comes down to it, most people view third party votes as wasted unless they figure it is meaningless like in California etc.

The GOP itself is on the precipice of becoming the new American Whig party or more recently the Progressive Conservative party of Canada. Disappearing so that another party can rise. The only question is whether we will have free and fair elections that allow it. The PRI ruled Mexico for longer than the Communist Party ruled the Soviet Union for example and the contest became which faction of the PRI should win all the marbles for over 80 years.

Frankly US aid to Israel should be repudiated by Israel because it limits what Israel can do. Israel could have more or less cleaned up in the aftermath of the 73 War, cleaned up Lebanon, and so on. Each time, the US stepped in and denied Israel clear strategic victories in order to placate the Arabs and keep the oil flowing.

Carter was so horrific a President in his four years that a good percentage of the hardcore base of the (D) party turned on him. Sure, some voted 3rd party to toss their vote away in protest.

He might have a number of plans, that neither of have any idea about. He may be wanting to force the GOPe to show itself more, because that helps him politically, and the issue he has latched his star to - Regular Order - demanded it. Anything which brings it more out into the open is good. The only way this isn't good for him, is he he backtracks. All future outcomes are a plus. He can't control which one he gets - but all are good for him, and for Regular order. He sees it as a win win.
