Why is it we let convicts spend most of their time in prison working out only to get more muscle in order to commit crime more effectively?
We need to be making these people fat. Real fat. Fat fat fatty fat fat.
My idea is depending on the severity of the crime will determine how many doughnuts you're forced to eat every day of your sentence. Something like a negligent homicide? You and your buddy plinking beer cans off each others' heads? You're not really violent, just fucking stupid. Three doughnuts a day. Knock over a liquor store? Nine a day at least. Rape? A dozen minimum, again depending on severity. Got her black out drunk and had your way? A dozen a day. Beaten and dragged her into a dark alleyway? Two to three dozen a day.
Get 'em so fat they won't have the energy to commit crimes. They'll just get winded really quickly and will be easy to catch when they run.
I am a freakin' genius.

I set up these events so that women could connect, have a few laughs and a bit of fun. They won’t allow that. They failed to have the event cancelled outright so are resorting to this. All because we want a lesbian event for women?

Security states tend to become more focused on status and position within the state. The security part tends to be focused inwards against possible competition within the state.
Further, there tends to be a sense of mutualism between the security apparatus and the external threat on the assumption that the external enemy is also just playacting to support their own position of dominance within their own power structure.
Rotten systems focus on their own internal competition since it is easier and provides successes more readily.
The US is in the same position. Spain prior to 1898 was in the same position as well.

Transporting weapons from Afghanistan to Gaza is in fact easier than from Ukraine to Gaza. Afghanistan to Iran is easy: they have a long border and friendly relations. Iran has no problem getting weapons to its troops and allies in Syria. Whether they truck the stuff through the friendlier or more corrupt parts of Iraq, or just fly it across, or some of each, I do not know, but they are in fact shipping weapons to Syria. Once weapons are in Syria, they have to be snuck past Israeli blockades in boats, but that also applies to weapons (hypothetically) shipped from Ukraine, which would have to come a lot further through the mined and blockaded Black Sea and the heavily-trafficked Bosporus, or by land through a lot of different countries not friendly to Hamas. Much more difficult.

I have also noticed that a hell of a lot of Biden-haters will believe any nasty rumor they hear about Ukraine, no matter how implausible. When challenged (most often at Althouse) it often turns out to come from ZeroHedge, or Kim DotComm, or the like.
I should say that I hate idiot Biden as much as anyone here, and think 97% of what he's done has been utterly disastrous, but arming Ukraine is in fact a good thing. Well the Pacific Fleet battle line was mired in mud or sunk. PACFLT would go through three commanders by the end of '41. Two carrier battle groups and escorts was all of the Pacific Fleet on Dec 8.
Saratoga would be a third carrier group except she collected a Japanese torpedo in January '42. Then there was the need to maintain a secure connection to Australia that drew off more warships.
Then there is the supply problem, US Navy on 7 Dec only had six fast oilers, like Neosho, to supply fleets at sea.
Yorktown would be transferred to the Pacific to replace Saratoga. Hornet was in work-ups in the Atlantic and its air group as late as March '42 still had Curtis SBC Helldiver bi-plane dive bombers. New classes of ships such as Fletcher and Atlanta were only commissioned in Dec '41 and would take time to reach Pearl Harbor.
Four months to get organized to do the Revenge Raids and the Doolittle Raid in those circumstances is pretty remarkable. And just two months later the Rising Sun would start to set at Midway.

I study French as a habit, or something I just can’t give up. I do get some enjoyment from it, learning the rhythms and laws of the language can be fun.
In our nation the only other major language is Spanish. But most literate Hispanics here at Least speak some English, and likely more than an American speaks Spanish.
Some say French is the language of the future and there will be 500 million speakers in a decade or so. That is fine, but most of them will be speaking it as a second or third language, and almost all of them being African.
You have to have really good French to convince a Euro to not respond in English. Yeah it is an historically important language. But when native speakers won’t speak with you, and want to use your language, they are saying learning there language is a waste of time.

Made a milestone on the hotrod Ford today. The brake pedal hanger and brake booster are now secured in place, with no need to remove them anticipated, although removal is certainly possible.

Having a terrorist state with a common border that has bombed and killed you relentlessly for 70 years is kind of a problem too.
The last 3 days has brought this all to a head and it is Hamas that did this. The time has come to get rid of that terrorist state and most likely that will include getting rid of that shared border, and taking over the land. And if that means a lot of people are going to get a new mailing address, well, sometimes that happens no matter how ugly it is.
What is most certain is the status quo is over and it cannot continue.

Well, according to Obama, there are 57 Islamic States. Some are pretty tiny, and others are pretty huge. Two million divided by 57 is a tad over 35,000. So send 70,000 Palis to the biggest muzz countries, and 18,000 to the smaller ones, or something like that. A diaspora, if you will.

There is always the language barrier, happenstance, time and place, etc. But if I were honest about it, I had more real experiences n France than I did in Italy or the UK. The most negative stuff was the UK but we spoke the same language and I lived there. They really did not like Bush. They mostly don’t like any Repub.
The worst shout out was the n Spain, again bashing Bush. But she was a kind hearted Brit, except for that one thing. As for the French, there was good and bad, mostly good. The one thing they don’t do is ignore you. The other countries, even Italy are good at that.

The fact that Israel has strict gun control is the most amazing thing I have learned in all this. Spanish is similar. No matter how many women, if there's at least one man in the group, it's masculine.
(almost) all nouns ending in a are feminine,
(almost) all nouns ending in o are masculine.

I study Spanish too. It is weird, when I study French, I think of Spanish because I have the academic background. I used to worry about it, which is weird. I have decided I will study both, but my French will be better. Will one day that be proven? Not sure,but I made my choice. I have legit seen many reasons to speek Spanish in America above and beyond anything else. Our founding fathers studied French and Latin.
