The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"I saw with tears in my eyes how the mob desecrated crosses on the roofs of the churches and in graveyards and ruined church buildings. They burnt so many Bibles and altars... The condition in Pakistan is very bad... So much hatred, jealousy, envy and enmity from the Muslims towards Christians. It seems that we Christians are like animals to them. Whenever they want to kill, they kill, and whenever they want to spare, they give free hand." Rev. Deacon Daud Irshad

Quote II

"More and more, rural farmlands in the foothills that once acted as buffer zones between the bears and humans are disappearing," Shinsuke Koike, a professor at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology

Or as I would like to call him, Dr. Smith.

Quote III

“They said it was the hottest year in the history of the earth the other day, and it’s not. That’s just, period, a lie.” Patrick Moore, the co-founder of Greenpeace Canada

Tempers flaring? Cut it out. You're contributing to man-made "Global Warming".

Marshals have been brought in to police 'charge rage' between drivers of electric vehicles at motorway service stations.

The boss of Britain's largest motorway service provider said long waits for plug-in points made drivers 'very angry and stressed'.

Moto chief executive Ken McMeikan warned the UK's motorway service stations are facing growing 'public disorder' due to a lack of grid connections preventing him from installing enough car chargers to meet the surge in demand

When choosing a new senator, what do you look for:

[X] Ghey
[X] Woman
[X] Black
[X] Non-resident

Is Sen.-to-be Butler Eligible to Represent California?
The residence question is closer than it might appear.
STEPHEN E. SACHS | 10.2.2023 10:40 AM

According to his official website, California Gov. Gavin Newsom on October 1 appointed Laphonza Butler to the Senate, to complete the term of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Butler was apparently a Maryland resident as of very recently, but according to Newsom's office she plans to re-register to vote in California before her Wednesday swearing-in.

For various reasons, though, that might not be enough, and the Senate will have a real constitutional question to face. As far as I can tell—and I'd be happy to be corrected—if Butler hasn't traveled back to her home in California since deciding to take the job, and if Newsom doesn't wait until she does to make (or re-make) the appointment, she can't represent California, and the Senate can't seat her yet.

(NB: This isn't my area of expertise; I usually just listen to Josh Chafetz on most questions of Congress's procedure and structure. But I've been working on a paper on the Twelfth and Seventeenth Amendments, which is why these questions came to mind. Also, nothing in what follows turns—or should turn—on one's political agreement or disagreement with either Newsom or Butler.)

Good job Gav. I would love to know how much quid was given for pro quo.

Everything you wanted to know about cruise etiquette but were afraid to ask.

You’re on a cruise in the buffet line. You’re politely waiting your turn to access a sumptuous bowl of fresh fruit. In front of you is a fellow passenger picking out certain berries — with their fingers!

The ultraselective and handsy fruit looter who committed this cruising faux paus did it in front of none other than Nick Leighton, a frequent traveler and host of the weekly etiquette podcast “Were You Raised By Wolves?”

It can get worse. Angel Wilson, travel advisor and owner of Dream Journeys, LLC, witnessed a cruising incident that makes the fruit bowl breach seem benign. She recently told CNN Travel via email about an unsettling incident:

“A group of us were sitting at a long table in one of the bar venues on a ship and an intoxicated Scotsman came up to us and asked if we’d like to see what ‘real Scots wear under their kilts.’ He then proceeded to flash us, from the front,” said Wilson, who is a cruise specialist.

At what point do you say, "I have to dump this, now?"

Are founders truly keepers or weepers? In the case of the superyacht Alfa Nero, the founders have indeed ended up weeping. The 267-foot vessel was abandoned by its owner in February 2022 at Falmouth Harbor. The ship was eventually seized by the Government of Antigua, but there’s no happy ending to this ship’s tale. In fact, it’s a borderline horror story for the tiny nation of 93,000. Taxpayers are bleeding dry, paying no less than $28,000 weekly for the upkeep of this floating palace that’s being maintained by a skeleton crew.

Ouch. What a horrible mishap.

A 27-year-old woman from Oklahoma was killed by a small plane while riding a lawnmower near Broken Bow Airport. According to KFOR, 70-year-old James Baxter was landing his 1972 Bonanza A36 when he noticed Samantha Hayes on the lawnmower in the field near the runway.

Baxter attempted to take off again so the plane would not strike Hayes. Unfortunately, the wing of his aircraft struck her in the head.

Serious traffic accident. Quick thinking and some adrenaline. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Last week in Georgia, people power made a life-saving rescue possible after a driver was trapped under a 3,600-pound car.

A collision launched the 19-year-old motorist through the sunroof as the car flipped over on its head, pinning him underneath without space to expand his chest.

Moments before, Georgia police sergeant Michael Peterson switched on the lights and sirens after seeing a car pass by at high speeds, but after catching up he found it had overturned with three young men clambering out of the passenger doors.

70 Woman accused of chugging alcohol following crash
Michele Miller is facing her 4th offense drunk driving charge.

-
I once had a trial in which I defended my client with a drinking after driving defense. Following a minor accident on a snowy street, she entered her house and drank. When the cops came and tested her, she had a sky high BAC and a far from spotless record. My basic argument was that you can't trust that BAC because she clearly drank after driving but before the test. The prosecution's expert was an arrogant SOB determined to defeat my defense. I manipulated him into making some ridiculous statements to the effect that her after accident drinking could not have affected the test because it hadn't had time to enter her system. At closing argument I ridiculed him saying that his rule is that it's OK to go ahead and have one for the road. The jury convicted her of the lesser included of driving while impaired rather than outright driving under the influence. At sentencing, the praised me and said that I had fooled the jury but I hadn't fooled him and he slammed her as hard as he could.

It's a glamour profession.

On this day, 02 October 2023, Barbara Lee was NOT selected for Feinstein's empty US Senate seat. A supporter of Lee, one Carolyn Wysinger, an activist, Educator / Author and Candidate for Trustee, Trustee Area 5 in COntra Costa County CA, appeared on the local news tonight to comment. Yeah, she was chapped.

A couple of interesting factoids about Laphonza Butler, Nabob of Gel Newsom's selection:
1 born in '78/79
2 never held elected office
3 most/all of her jobs nave had a significant activist slant
4a lived in CA between 2009 and 2021 ...
4b ... and worked for the Purple People Beaters (SEIU)
5 owns a house in CA, and is currently reestablishing CA residency

IOW, Laphonza is completely unqualified. She doesn't even have a bunch of BS certificates.

214 Also, I declined to bother with the ignition lock and occupational license as my car was wrecked (T-boned on the driver's door, not my fault but I was drunk on Christmas Eve morning), and lived within walking distance from my job. So I just said 'Screw it' and didn't drive for +/- 3 years. Didn't pay a dime to any of that. Then, when I got my license back and another car, I was so used to not being behind the wheel I'd sort of... zone out.
I'd think, "WTF? This car is all over the road! Who's driving? Oh! It's me!"

LN2 cars don't burn it, of course -- the engine is basically a reverse air compressor).

278 So to explain why I'm a Material Witness, I walk to work, to the office, etc. and find empty shell casings all the time. 9mm mostly so I usually pick them up and leave them in a cup at my local shooting range. Reloaders. Anyway, I found an unusual number of cases on the sidewalk and picked up a couple, then realized it wasn't just one or two it was a whole magazine. So I put on a jersey glove and put them in a baggie and took them to the office with me. I looked up the news and reports were some kids got ahold of a 9 and had gone on a shooting spree at 'nothing in particular' and the cops were more about these kids, than the casings.

Seems this 'random shooting' wasn't so random. They sent the casings to the State Crime Lab and got a hit on a Very Bad Guy. Fingerprints on the empties. Next time they made contact he got jammed up, hard, over the empties I picked up and turned in.

So what SEEMED like some kids blazing away at nothing, which offended me, who knows what they might hit, has turned into this massive deal with some bigtime doper trying to stay out of prison, and it all hinges on my testimony linked to these 7 or so empties I picked up under incomplete information.

JTB, most of the lacto-ferment I do is from recipes from the internet, mostly done on the quart jar quantities. I sweat cabbage or peppers down with about 1/8 cup of canning salt since that is a good amount for a quart. With cabbage that is roughly 1-3/4 lbs of cabbage. I let it sweat for 30 minutes minimum to get the most brine.

I like adding a whole pepper and a garlic clove in, and my wife likes shredded cabbabe mixed in.

With vinegar I just use an online recipe. It is "cut up raw apples and put them in a gallon jar, fill with water and wait" I have a vinegar mother started so I mostly use fruit juice now.
One of the more interesting sites for lactoferment is Mary's Nest on YouTub and the other is https://www.beetsandbones.com/

He's been bonded out, jumped bond, made bond, gone back in, went Pro Se, insisted he is destitute and applied for a PD, just literally anything he can do as, as soon as he actually gets in a trial he is over.
Also whenever he is inside, his revenue stream dries up. So he surrenders with dope money, does legal stuff, then fights to get back out so he can make more money to fight this beef.
And I keep getting subpeoned over these stupid-assed 9mm Blazer empties I picked up more or less on a whim.

A fair point. Lucas couldn't figure out how to stop the electrons from leaking at fast flow rates. Electrons leak too, as anyone that has ever bought a battery charger knows. But Lucas was really bad at it.

Back to gasoline. It really is a Hell of a substance. Even when it leaks, within design parameters, it's a helpful solvent and a bit of a conditioner with certain gaskets. It's really, really tough to beat a gallon of gas as far as energy density, ease of handling, and cost.

So lets go hydrogen. And figure out how to educate the masses on safe handling of a bomb-grade pure element. I'm sure that'll turn out just swell.

Only a few percent of our hydrogen supplies come from electrolysis of water, as mentioned above. Most of it comes from processing CH4, which produces H2 and CO2.

You can buy a hydrogen generator. It's a table-top water electrolyzer, used to make small quantities of very pure hydrogen for laboratory use. 'Bout the size of a large Keurig machine. It is a very costly way to make hydrogen.

and there's more - it's proponents hate to admit that in practice, Hydrogen is a fossil fuel as well. They love to say "we can get it from water!" but in fact breaking the hydrogen-oxygen bonds in water requires far more energy than you can ever get from combusting the hydrogen you obtain from the process. (water has many unique properties, that's just one of them) So, in practice, the only realistic source of large amounts of hydrogen is Methane - but if you're going to do that, why not just combust the methane directly rather than fooling around with breaking it down first?

oh some love to talk about electrolytic methods, etc, but those either require more energy in than you can get out, or only work on a very small scale, in a lab. None of them are economically practical.

well the bright side is that the idea is idiotic, it can't be done. Every conversion of any molecule requires more energy than it yields. You, of course, know that. But it's an important point to stress to the masses.

So, as we're literally "burning water" to grab that H as part of the H2O molecule ? What does anyone propose to reintroduce that H back to that O2 on the back end, at another net energy loss ? Because, after all, it's water. We all die in seven days without water.

For the wiper switch, I drilled out the knob to 3/16" to accept the shank of the new switch, and drilled and tapped a crosswise hole for a set screw. For the headlamp switch, I threaded the shank of the switch to 12-24 NC, and drilled and tapped the knob for a 12-24 thread. Once the switch is installed permanently, I will use red Loctite to secure the knob onto the shaft of the switch. The original appearance of the dash remains as Henry made it.

Their hearts skip a beat over how much better their lives would be in government simply had unlimited power. (Well, except for those here, but even then, many here, let's face it, hate big business.)

That is conspiracy nonsense. Even if suddenly transportation were cut from the equation, do you realize what else oil is used for? It boggles the mind. Oil companies would be just fine.

This is not the party of Reagan, it is something else. After devoting too much of my life to this stuff, I am just watching and voting at this point.

There are 6 German NGO's 'rescuing' these migrants and taking them to the island. I haven't found Meloni's Nitter site yet but I'm sure that she has something to say.

439 429, this would not surprise me. French journalists can be the best when reporting on the USA. They showed that on 9/11.

They should do that to their own country, then they would be lauded around the world. The Africans really hate the French. They have no clue how to do better, but they hate them.

This led you to bring in immigrants to begin with once the native born Swedes realized that raising kids is nigh-on-impossible when you are paying 70% of your income in taxes to be pampered and babied by the government with things you really are better off getting on your own.
