Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Tentative Deal Struck in Writers StrikeThe Film Actors Guild, however, is still on strike. Although the studios have reached a general agreement with the " " " professional writers," " " they still have to write the contractual language, which could take days or a week (or more). And the deal could still collapse over details they thought they'd worked out but upon closer inspection, had not. But it looks like it's over:Variety reports that negotiators for the Writers Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached the finish line Sunday after five consecutive days of negotiations. Day 4 on Saturday mostly involved lawyers for the guild and AMPTP hashing out the fine print of language around complicated and groundbreaking additions to the WGA's Minimum Basic Agreement. The nitty-gritty details of language around the use of generative AI in content production was one of the last items that the sides worked on before closing the pact.I know all of you are huge fans of Steven Colbert, Jimmy Smeckle, Seth Meyers, and who-the-hell-else. Garrett especially (obviously). So I'm glad to report that they'll be back on the air within days! Lucky you! Warner Bros.' and Paramount's stock jumped by around 1.5%. Disney's rose too... a mere 0.5%. As if Wall Street no longer has faith in the Rat. Will the studios make a deal with the Film Actors Guild in turn? Maybe. And that's important, because Film Actors Guild Fran Drescher says that there's a hateful contingent in the world that is blocking wonderful Hollywood "creatives" from making six billion more gay movies and TV shows, and that's a bad thing. You're telling me. Next thing you'll tell me is that they're making more TV commercials featuring gay couples and mixed-race couples than ever. However, this year's report expanded its definition of "film" to include streaming services that do not offer theatrical movie releases, making it likely that we would see more films with LGBTQ characters than ever. GLAAD considered the numbers as progress, but with caveats. More than half (57 percent) of LGBTQ characters had fewer than five minutes of screen time. Moreover, 40 percent of those characters were characters of color, a slight uptick from the 39 percent tracked last year. The report also noted that 21 percent of the inclusive films featured a bisexual character, 12 percent included a transgender character, and 4 percent included an LGBTQ character with a disability. There was just one character in the films who was living with HIV. Along with Drescher, president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis warned that a prolonged strike could reverse the progress made. "At a time when the LGBTQ community is under unprecedented cultural and political attacks, it is more important than ever to hold film studios accountable for how our community is represented on screen," Ellis said. "It is crucial that the AMPTP reach a fair deal with striking writers and performers -- that these talented creatives can return to work as soon as possible so that the progress made in LGBTQ representation remains on track." Bob Iger met with major institutional investors behind closed doors. Reportedly, he reassured investors that he knew that Pixar, under his great leadership, is no longer able to produce successful movies based on original concepts and scripts, and so would now just be in the business of producing sequels to previous hits. Super. He bought Pixar for $10 billion, and now it's just a sequel mill for straight-to-DVD sequels. Planes Vs. Cars. Up 2: Even Upper. Buzz Lightyear: Bigger and Gayer. By the way: The Snow Biege movie starring annoying woke twat Rachel Zegler is expected to have a final cost of $300 million (!!!) so that's going to be another Iger Disaster. I previously wrote that tax filings for The Marvels revealed that it cost $275 million. Valliant Renegade noted that those filings only show costs through the end of 2022, and we know there have been reshoots, and therefore also additional costly special effects shots, since then. Disney Marvel can't film three people sitting at a park bench without $60 million of CGI. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I do believe that the writer's union saw the deals that the networks have been making with pro sports leagues and college conferences and decided that that programming was going to be taking up more and more prime time slots in the upcoming years which means less scripted shows,
As they did the last strike, the unions overplayed their hands and will end up with a lot less jobs. Posted by: Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper at September 25, 2023 12:06 PM (aGT/k) 31

There was just one character in the films who was living with HIV. -- This is really interesting, btw. The hint is right there. People are utterly repulsed by it. The end. And no one likes the idea of having some gay dudes being main characters while reminding everyone that they're spreading HIV to their hookups. But the part where they hide The Gay in the protected black character is very interesting. I doubt there are more black gays, but it allows a different shield against criticism. Very clever. And although Zegler gets the lion's share of scorn for being an obnoxious woke twat -- which is fully deserved -- we shouldn't forget it was that obnoxious woke twat Peter Dinklage who started the whole stupid michegas about how dwarf characters are racist or whatever. "GLAAD considered the numbers as progress, but with caveats. More than half (57 percent) of LGBTQ characters had fewer than five minutes of screen time."
Would guess that any character with less than five minutes of screen time is either a somewhat non-essential character or one that serves a very specific purpose. Either way, their sexuality is more than likely irrelevant to their character. GLADD should be happy that 57% of LGBTQ characters were made gay simply because the writers/producers felt pressured to include some "diversity." Have you tried the anchors Moen sells for fastening grab bars to walls without tapping studs? They hold like 300 pounds each, and are really easy to install. I can't help laughing at the politics of these asinine DEI ratings. Companies are between a rock and a hard place. They saw what happens when a company goes full tilt DEI (Budweiser). So, their response is to focus on showing gay relationships in their public offerings. But, they do it so brazenly (and in discordance with actual statistics) that it comes across as forced. It's the same concept of every criminal in the home security commercials being white.
I keep saying this: The first major company to flat out state something along the lines of "We're out of politics. We make _____. And, that's what we are going to concentrate on. Let our competitors distract themselves with the current topic of the day. We'll just make our _______________." They will corner the market in their focused product. - Try light against wall (like bulb touching) to see depressions that tell you where old nails are. (works best on newer homes) - wires are pipes can be anywhere. Maybe you hit a plate to protect. If you look at location of water heater, distribution panel, you can guess at high pipe/wire walls - maybe air duct in A/C or forced air heating system? these often pick short walls like you describe, but they are also easy (too easy) to punch through. Light against trick might help. Posted by: Spammer at September 25, 2023 12:37 PM (Oa8QZ) 244
Every wall is SUPPOSED to have 16" centers, meaning from every corner or door frame, the center of the next 2x4 wall stud should be 16" from the edge.
Not quite. Depends how it is framed. A door is where it is. That doesn't mean the counting starts again from the edge of the frame. Find one stud, usually next to an outlet, then start measuring from there. Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at September 25, 2023 12:37 PM (O+BhX) 245

Another quick n' dirty approach is to have Home Depot or suchlike cut you a piece of 1/2" plywood the height and width of the small wall minus the baseboard, screw it into the top plate of the wall at the ceiling (and you should be able to tag the studs at the closet door sides next to the trim, too), paint it to match, and just screw your shelf standards to that. "what's your thoughts on a short half inch wall-claw anchor?"
As long as it's installed properly it will hold that weight. But remember the weight tolerance changes with the length of whatever you are attaching it to (e.g. a shelf that measures 10 inches from attachment point). Depending on how it's mounted, that will change the weight tolerance by levering downward on the attachment point. However, 3-4 pounds should be fine provided the drywall is good quality. A murdering Person B's target to give B an alibi, then expecting B to murder A's target -- and B balks. What comes next I can't recall.)
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Person A was a public figure, and person B was a nut. Person B kills person As target without being asked, and essentially blackmails him into going after Person A's target. It was a great psycho-drama, and follows Hitchcock's proto-noir formula of a normal person having his life upended by stumbling on the wrong person. As innocent a thing as riding a train and he is sunk. (Barton Keyes said that murder is like two people getting on a train and the only stop is the cemetery, or something. in Double Indemnity. Throw Mama seems to be partially inspired by that classic.) Throw Mama was great because they turned the nutter - person B - into a comic and sympathetic character (DeVito) bullied by his mother (ala Psycho). A cinematic masterpiece. 458 I had a friend in the mill who made a trip to canuckistan a long time ago on a fishing trip. The Canucks found a .22 rifle in his bass boat and he had all papers and everything stamped PNG. Told to go home and never come back. He was kinda proud of it.

Didn't Drescher's husband of 15 years abandon her and move in with a dude? Is there a Yiddish term which means 'Stockholm Syndrome'?

They separated in '96 and divorced in '99. He came out later -- Peter Marc Jacobsen, an actor and the producer of The Nanny. i am the stud finder. but no, I didn't. I mean, I think I'm right on the stud (by the knock method). It's just not letting my drill, like there's something metal in here. I'm not near an outlet. It's a space between two closets so there shouldn't be pipe or electrical there.
Posted by: Disinformation Expert Ace -------------------- The general rule is that if you hit obstacles with a drill bit, then you should not keep drilling until you find out what is behind it. And yes, you should have a combo electrical/stud/metal finder. Any property that has been renovated or has existed for a long time can all sorts of things tucked into the walls over time. Kind of funny, I remember liking Sandler and Ferrell in two of their non-type movies, Spanglish (Sandler) and Everything Must Go (Ferrell).
Posted by: The Central Scrutinizer "Everything Must Go" is kind of a drama about a guy struggling with alcoholism, pretty funny stuff (there were a few chuckles in it). But if you saw it, then you already know that. Yeah, it was definitely against type of most of Will Ferrell's movies. I guess this comment is for people who have no idea what this movie was about.
