Not that I trust Vladimir Putin. But why can't he be interviewed by an American journalist?

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has alleged in a recent interview that unnamed figures in Washington obstructed his attempts to interview Russian president Vladimir Putin.

“I tried to interview Vladimir Putin, and the US government stopped me,” Carlson claimed in an interview with Swiss publication Die Weltwoche published on Thursday. He also explained that he felt let down by the lack of support for his situation that he says he received from US news media.

A funny thing happened in the hen house. The politicians counted their chicks before their eggs hatched.

But the city’s new tax is facing lawsuits questioning its constitutionality, with the possibility that the city may have to pay those funds back after it spends them on eviction defense, income support for rent-burden seniors, rent debt assistance, and more.

Initially, proponents estimated the tax would raise about $900 million per year, but a March report from the City Administrative Office lowered that number to $672 million, The Los Angeles Times reported.

“But once the tax took effect, L.A.’s luxury market froze,” The Times reported. “Only two homes sold for more than $5 million in the month of April, and the market hasn’t quite recovered since.”

Luxury homeowners seeking to avoid the tax have either refused to sell their homes or hired tax specialists to find loopholes, The Times reported.

Rich liberals looking for loopholes? Seriously?

How long before the blue blood dictators take over again?

The dreaded rat lungworm—a parasite with a penchant for rats and slugs that occasionally finds itself rambling and writhing in human brains—has firmly established itself in the Southeast US and will likely continue its rapid invasion, a study published this week suggests.

The study involved small-scale surveillance of dead rats in the Atlanta zoo. Between 2019 and 2022, researchers continually turned up evidence of the worm. In all, the study identified seven out of 33 collected rats (21 percent) with evidence of a rat lungworm infection. The infected animals were spread throughout the study's time frame, all in different months, with one in 2019, three in 2021, and three in 2022, indicating sustained transmission.

23 Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy - who commands a battalion of neo-Nazis - honored an actual WWII Nazi with a standing ovation on Friday.

Trudeau now is claiming that he knew nothing about the guy, and the Speaker of the House of Commons is claiming that it is solely his fault for inviting the SS vet.

Which is weird, since the SS vet got a private meeting with Trudeau and Zelensky, and I don't think the Speaker of the House of Commons organizes meetings like that.

Odds are that this was organized by the odious Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, whose grandfather edited a Ukrainian-language Nazi newspaper in Eastern Europe during the war.

When the news about Freeland's grandfather came out in 2017, she of course said that it was "a Russian disinformation campaign".

49 “But once the tax took effect, L.A.’s luxury market froze,” The Times reported. “Only two homes sold for more than $5 million in the month of April, and the market hasn’t quite recovered since.”

The Portland city council passed a law a few years ago saying that any new apartment building over 20 units had to include "affordable housing".

It took a couple of years to take effect, triggering off an apartment construction boom in Portland.

Then the law took effect, and almost all new apartment buildings being constructed in Portland now are 19 units or less.

Back during the WoT the FNM told us incessantly that we should always be willing to talk to our enemies.

Now Putin isn't killing any Americans (well outside of American mercs) and...talking with him isn't allowed?!?

How is rat lungworm treated?
There’s no specific treatment for a rat lungworm infection. It usually goes away on its own. Treatments a provider might suggest at home or give you in the hospital include:

Pain relievers.
Anti-nausea medications.
Intravenous (IV) fluids.
Sedatives.
Corticosteroids.
Prevention
Can you prevent rat lungworm?
The best ways to prevent or reduce your risk of rat lungworm include:

Thoroughly cooking snails, crabs and shrimp before eating.
Thoroughly washing or cooking vegetables and checking them for slugs and snails before eating.
Avoiding eating raw vegetables in areas where rat lungworm is common.
Outlook / Prognosis
What can I expect if I have a rat lungworm infection?
Most people with a rat lungworm infection, even those with meningitis, make a full recovery. You may have symptoms on and off for weeks or months as the parasites cause inflammation and die. If your symptoms are severe, you may need treatment in a hospital.

234 Rotational grazing or "regenerative farming" aims, amongst other things, to limit parasite load by moving critters out of the poo-fertilized pasture before the parasite eggs can hatch and begin the infection cycle anew. (Plus, do *you* want to give all those cows a bath?)

Ivermectin is a vermicide (and an antiviral, and apparently something of an anti-inflammatory drug too).

So, maybe our doctors' and sorcerers' pharmacists' focus on germ theory wasn't *wrong* but possibly somewhat *insufficient*?

240 Well, work continues apace on the Hotrod Ford. Got the hybridized steering column installed today, and the shortened and reworked linkage rod installed to connect the column shift to the transmission. I can shift the full range from "Park" to "low" without any hangups.

While I was under the dash, I removed the radio, which was literally hung there on scraps of house wire. It is an actual era-appropriate Ford radio, made by Canadian Marconi Company, with a big "Ford" logo pressed into the steel box. Since the radio is six volt, and the car will become a twelve volt car, I won't be using it, but it will go on the curiosity shelf.

And I took the vacuum wiper motor out, and tore it apart, and gutted it. Now the shaft with the linkage arms turns freely. It will go back in the car to act as a pivot or bell crank for the wiper linkage, and I will add an electric motor somewhere with a link to reciprocate the linkage off that pivot. There is plenty of room under there!

245 171 Regarding the mastiff and the Great dane that were rescued. I believe that lazy, ignorant people gravitate toward extreme breeds of dogs. I had a friend who had adopted a Great Dane from a rescue group. When the dog was turned in it was malnourished. The original owner said that he didn't realize it would eat so much.
Posted by: nerdygirl at September 24, 2023 10:49 PM (0Htd1)

Good breeders of giant breeds discuss the requirements, both time and monetary, that these dogs require. They don't sell them to people who don't comprehend the responsibility. But there are too many lazy, crappy breeders out there who want to make a buck on "wow" dogs, resulting in poor/sick offspring, often with behavior problems. People can't handle that and dump them. It's absolutely sickening.

English isn't so hard that people who get jobs in ad agencies should be given a pass on knowing enough basic grammar to avoid things like that.

Some radios used in VW's were 6/12 volts; could be used either way by removing a small plug and inserting it the other way.

If it were important to me to keep the old tube radio, I could rewire it for 12 volts pretty easily. But it's not the radio the car shipped with, just a "will-fit", from some other Ford. And the car is not going to be a restoration, just a "patina hot rod", so a modern radio is not an issue. Or no radio at all. I have an old 8-track player. Should put that in it.

47% of Dems say free speech should be legal 'only under certain circumstances.

34% of Dems say Americans 'have too much freedom'

321 So let me get this straight - over the course of 36 months, 33 rats were collected at the Atlanta Zoo and tested for this parasite. One was found to be carrying it one year, the next year 3 were found to have it (an increase of 300%!!!! Aren't statistics fun?), and the following year 3 rats again were found to have it (sadly for the fearmongers, there was no increase that year).

How many rats can be expected to be in/around the Atlanta Zoo on any given day, much less any given month? And these researchers only used ONE RAT each month to test?!?!?!?

How much money was wasted on this pathetic excuse of a study?

And do they really expect me to set my hair on fire because of this?

I meant what I said. I've worked at a lot of news organizations in the United States, and they're all the same.

They're all afraid of getting sued or yelled at or fired or humiliated. But interestingly, none of them are very afraid of getting things wrong. That's not a concern.

They're not worried about accuracy as much as they're worried about being unfashionable or saying something forbidden. What they're really worried about is telling the truth.

Although they will run out of Ukrainians long before then. Will we send in soldiers and fight the Russians directly? Will we find others stupid enough to fight for us (Poland says no)? Did you know that England has enough military supplies to fight for one whole week? Do you know that Russia is now receiving huge amounts of military supplies from places like North Korea? Have you noticed that the dollar is increasingly NOT the "worlds reserve currency" and is being replaced, due to OUR actions in seizing dollars from Russia (called theft) which causes the entire world to no longer trust the dollar? And when, not if, the US debt comes crashing down, what will we use to pay for all the manufactured goods that we offshored? Now throw in "the war on farming" and we won't even be able to EAT.

We have met the enemy, and it is us.

400 Just above, I mention that Poland says no to being involved in Ukraine (they stopped arms shipments). Suddenly "US offers Poland rare loan of $2 billion to modernize its military". Yup, modernize, as in, ship new arms, to get Poland to send it's old arms to Ukraine. So the Ukrainians can continue to get themselves killed ramming their heads into the Russian defenses they gave Russia many months to plan and build, because Ukraine, or should I say Zelensky, had to tout the counteroffensive for months to pry the arms from the west, and, because of that, can not stop it no matter how much of a failure it is.

I have seen the map. Ukraine has broken through (after many months of costly fighting) the first Russian line of defense (in one spot only, and even there only partially in some spots). Only 3-4 more lines of defense (or more) to go. Say (optimistically), another several years of fighting at their current pace, although they will run out of troops long before then.

No matter how much rah rah there is, that is the truth on the ground. Maybe you really believe in the Ukrainian cause. belief is irrelevant, your believe changes nothing. It ill not bring the dead back.
