I bought my first guitar in 1985 - a black Vox standard 24 with Dimarzio super distortion humbucker pickups. Over the years i let it kinda deteriorate and stopped playing it. Bought a couple other guitars then some keyboards. Got that Vox fully fixed, cleaned, polished, and tuned up recently. Sounds great and i love playing it again. I'm thinking about getting different pickups since i play mostly clean rhythm with a bit of grit from pedals or the amp. When i dig out from under a mountain of work, i'm going to do some investigating.

I'm ashamed to say that in the early 70's I thought Cat Stevens was the cat's meow, also had very nice hair. I've matured and Yusuf can diaf.

Rush released this statement yesterday. Geddy Lee is the son of holocaust survivors.
"We are sickened by news of the brutal atrocities and monstrous acts of cold-blooded murder committed by the terrorist group Hamas - an organization dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish state and the extermination of its people. Our hearts break for the people of Israel and for Jews around the world as they process these horrible events. These are dark acts of barbarism for which there can be no justification. Our hearts also go out to all innocent souls in Gaza that have lost their lives, been injured or put in jeopardy as a result of the actions of this inhuman terrorist regime." I had long hair in high school, when most everyone else didn't. People thought I was a stoner, but really, I just didn't care what anyone else thought.
Nowadays, all those people I went to school with, they probably feel the nostalgia for the long hair, even if they have none themselves. I keep mine fairly short. And lament the amount of gray I see when I get it cut. It truly surprises me, like the piles of it under the stylist's chair must belong to someone else. "How come I have so few pictures of you when you were little?" "You dressed me." "Huh?" "I'm still embarased ANY pictures exist with that 70's shit on me. I used to run at the sight of a camera." Then came the great 80's hair wars and endless bitching by my mom about how she is always out of Auqua Net. Ending in 90 when I went into the Army. Longest hair in Reception Station. Posted by: Puddleglum at work at October 14, 2023 08:04 PM (L1JuH) Most of what I listen to these days are only marginally known acts. Most of them, I don't have a clue about band members, couldn't name them or pick them out of a lineup. There's a song running through my head this weekend, I'm not sure which band they are, because in my car I play music through a thumb drive, and the song titles come up on the display, most of them listed as "unknown album." Don't know why, I copied them off cds or digital content, so except for those I've had longer, before I started putting them on thumb drives, the newer ones are almost as obscure as hearing a song come on the radio, and having the DJ not even tell you what it was before or after it plays. Overrated Posted by: Diogenes at October 14, 2023 08:17 PM (uSHSS)" I went to BCT with my head already shaved. There were a few guys with really nice hair who got sheared like a sheep and almost had tears in their eyes. The DS thought I was enjoying it a little too much. By the time the hair bands of the 70s and 80s came around I wasn't listening to much rock. And most of what I heard was on radio so I didn't know what they looked like. It was a shock when we first got cable and saw MTV. I had no idea.

Re: Pennsyltucky's mention of pipe tobaccos from the Hobby Thread:
Last year's favorites were Peterson "Early Morning Pipe" and Home and Hearth "Cerberus," along with the usual garden-variety Captain Black and Borkum Riff. If I'm smoking a corncob pipe, though, I like "American Patriot" from Missouri Meerschaum Company. My usual pipes are a Savinelli 320, an unbranded churchwarden and a Civil War-era clay pipe with reed stem from Mogadore, OH. . . . Posted by: Pennsyltucky at October 14, 2023 *** I've been trying out the Match version of Early Morning Pipe, aka Sunrise. That's a mild English type. My favorite tend to run to the old codger blends like Sir Walter Raleigh, Half & Half, Prince Albert (a match, though), and several others. They're not vanilla-ish at all, more cocoa or molasses, rather like Captain Black. Half & Half is odd, burley plus Virginia, but with spices of coriander and cardamom. About hair and why people, particularly men, tend to baldness?
As one gets older the outward growth of the hair follicles slows doen and even stops. Instead the roots grow out and that's why old men have all that ear and nose hair - it's the roots growing out. Posted by: SFGoth at October 14, 2023 08:03 Same here SFG. I had long hair, kinda, in the 70s. Then Jules encouraged it maybe when I was 55 or so. Now I'm on my 3rd round. To be honest, tween you and me, I have been known to add a little more color. A friend asked me why, kinda was giving me grief, and I just said I got tired of looking at that really old man in the mirror. Looking a tad younger I think helps boost my spirits and energy. You really don't want a list of all the medical BS that has been my luck to receive. Yesterday the cheery news was that my cataracts have progressed to the point I need surgery. Yes, supposedly not a big thing but my old friend Marty had it fail on one eye. Posted by: Farmer at October 14, 2023 09:15 PM (55Qr6) 186
I don't exclusively listen to any specific type of music, more a compendium of styles, with the exception of rap, which ISN'T music, only cacophony.

In my 40's I dyed my hair black because in pics it just looked old with the gray coming in. Now that I have the streaks (and an I-don't-give-a-kumquat attitude), I don't give a kumquat. The problem i have with long hair now is that with my astigmatism, i have to hold stuff up to my face to read it and the hair gets in the way.
