Child Speech Pathologies Are At An All-Time High -- Because of Randi Weingarten, Deborah Brix, and Anthony Fauci

And anyone else who pushed, or permitted, mass lockouts of schools.

In a recent interview with Sky News, London resident Viral Bhundia described what it was like to watch his young son Jay struggle with speaking.

"If he wanted something he would scream, and it was up to us to kind of decode it and figure out what he wanted," said Bhundia. "Does he want a cup? Does he want water?"

Jay's struggles are not an anomaly. They are part of a broader trend of children across the world lagging in basic language communication.

The latest evidence comes from Speech and Language UK, which found one out of every five children in the United Kingdom are behind in basic speech. This is reportedly the "highest number of children with speech and language challenges ever recorded" in the UK, Sky News noted.

It's not difficult to glean why so many children are deficient in basic language skills. Around the world, governments responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with an arsenal of blunt tools-- lockdowns, mandatory mask orders, endless social distancing, and travel restrictions--which had a devastating impact on learning development. (Of these, masking in particular is viewed by many as the primary cause of speech delays.)

The pandemic years were a challenge for everyone, but it was particularly damaging for children, an abundance of evidence shows. In the United States, for example, ACT scores fell to 30-year lows, while teenage girls reported record levels of sadness and suicidal tendencies, likely because of widespread social isolation.

It's important to understand such social outcomes were not caused primarily by the virus, but by government responses to the virus.

David Strom calls it a matter of "child sacrifice" as government policy.

The result is a generation of young children who have trouble even talking, and struggle to emotionally connect with and understand the people around them.

A vast collection of research spanning decades demonstrated that children get vital emotional and intellectual cues from facial expressions, and there have been milestones recognized for years related to infants and toddlers learning vital lessons from observing others' facial expressions. As early as Spring 2020 people were warning that mask mandates would harm child development. The American Academy of Pediatrics, which knew better, denied that children's development would be harmed by masking.

They were lying then--they knew better. It was impossible that they didn't know because they had relied on many of these studies in setting milestones--and they appear to have no regrets about the damage they have done. The Narrative was and is more important than the children.

But the Teachers Union decided that teachers should have the perks of being part of the Laptop Class, and the "experts" had to shut down society as hard as possible as a political rebuke to Trump, who initially talked down the threat of the virus and offered optimistic projections of the pandemic passing quickly. To show him who was boss, the experts destroyed the economy and condemned 20% of children to developmental delays in talking to their fellow human beings.

All for politics. All for disgusting, meltbrain vicious cat-lady politics.

In part. Closing schools and moving everything behind a viewscreen didn't help anything in terms of social development, but I strongly suspect that it is not solely responsible for the retarded speech development. My guess is that masking is at *least* as big a factor in it. For at least a year (and up to 2.5 years or so, depending on specific locale), kids didn't see faces or mouths. Non-verbal communication cues became hidden. Mouth movements associated with speech became hidden. Speech became muffled.

I cannot fathom how destructive that must be.

They do, but they're obviously more to learning to speak than just interacting with your family.

For example, my parents have a distinct regional accent. I grew up in a different state, and my accent is that of the state I grew up in.

You'll also notice whenever there's like some remote people in Alaska or whatever, the adults speak normally, but their children (who grew up with limited outside contact), all seem to speak in strange ways.

And the abused children who are locked in rooms often time never learn how to really speak normally, despite having (limited) interactions with their "caregivers."

Anyways, this has been widely studied and known for quite a while. And was mentioned pretty much immediately when the masking thing started.

And all of the "experts" said -- nah, that's nonsense.

And now... well... maybe the experts lied.

But yes, it was not Trump personally who shut down schools. Local municipalities made that decision.

And I don't remember Trump fighting against it, or firing people. Instead, he let the head of the NIH, some lady with a scarf, and the CDC make all of the "tough decisions."

Nothing was resolved over the summer but when schools were supposed to resume after summer nobody would pay the religious school enrollment unless their kids were in class - no more video crap!

When the private schools opened the public schools realized they'd better open or they'd lose a lot of pre-high school students to the privates.

did Trump not know that when he declared a national emergency over SARS II there would be, following that, about 20 states that AUTOMATICALLY instituted a statewide emergency declaration? (PA was one)

and at that point all our rights (those of us living in those states) were somehow suspended, and we in PA couldn't get out until we passed a state constitutional amendment?

did he NOT KNOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN? did he even ask? "what happens downstream from this decision?"

also why didn't he END THE STATE OF EMERGENCY before he left office? riddle me that?

I'm over this. Trump sucked on COVID and he killed us. he killed us.

There are only two reasonable explanations for the failure of expertise - not just in COVID, but in everything - over the past 20 years:
1. The experts are lying. They recommend the wrong thing and do so on purpose. They should not be trusted or listened to because they are liars.
2. The experts are ignorant and wrong (that is, not actually experts). They recommend the wrong things because they don't know the right things to recommend. They should not be trusted or listened to because they are fools.

Pick one.

I don't believe my friend can read or write. He has Down's syndrome and I'm not exactly sure the extent of other problems. He does have some physical health problems as well. He is constantly making noises but it is not speech. It's similar to the noises toddlers make before they can talk/or you can understand them. I'm not being mean but it's a series of grunts or squeals that make sense when you're with him. I ask do you want a water or coke? He gets really excited and points and makes noises. I also have to cut his food.

Her boys had to mask for a while, then the town did away with that nonsense, so the boys went to school full time during the whole mess, which was very fortunate. One has ADHD and defiance disorder, the other low on the autism scale. (You can thank both sides of their family for that. There were several times when I damn near killed their oldest cousin because he forgot to take his ADHD meds.) But both boys were forced to socialize and learn not to explode when things didn't go their way. I really do feel bad for those kids that were kept home for two teats. There is no way they are going to recover from that.

Is the claim that people didn't speak until later in life before the Department of Education and the educational industrial complex got rolling in the 70s?

I was born to two parents without college education, one of which had a GED. I spoke perfectly well before I ever saw a day of school (and could read and write as well). And no one in my kindergarten class was incapable of basic, coherent speech.

Probably concerned he couldn't win the primary. Even though Utah Republicans aren't as Trump loving, the Trumpers in the party do not like Romney at all.

Polite way of saying these Jerkoff's have destroyed my party and I'm out. Or maybe he's considering a Presidential run?

He would like to see a "Draft Romney" campaign take hold, and he might act quetky to push such a campaign. However, I do not think such a plan would succeed.

Seriously, fuck this smug rich asshole. Biden is leading on important matters and he knows it. The only sad part is that Utah will send someone even worse than Mike Lee in R-money's place.

What are the "important matters" that he thinks Biden ain't leading on? Let me guess. More tax cuts for the super-rich? More corporate welfare? Oh I know! Fewer corporate regulations!

I don't think that's what he was saying. I read it as "interaction outside the immediate family plays a major role in language development and speech," which seems to be true. The children of foreigners usually don't pick up their parents' accents, for example. This is a similar point (I think, if I am reading it right) to what I said @48.

I think that masking as at least as big a problem as closing schools. The mask mandates - especially the long-term ones - were likely a huge factor in retarded speech development, and probably a bigger factor than school closures.

I'm not talking about average kids in an average home who learn to speak at an average age. I'm speaking of those children who either have physical, medical or developmental needs that are aided by speech and language therapist to develop communication skills. They are entitled by Federal law to receive therapy from ages 3-21. That did not happen during shut-downs unless the therapist went above and beyond and did home visits. The whole thing was stupid.

Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls - an election is simply a festival for the majority at September 13, 2023 02:24 PM (ppBhU)

Nice. Way to be an illiterate asshole, bear.

No, the claim is that children learn speech primarily through observation. That doesn't necessarily mean formal education.

It means being around people who speak the language. The more the better. Preferably without their faces covered with masks while you hide in your house and rarely venture out and when you do interact with anyone else, their faces are covered and they are six feet away from you.

I can't believe you even think this is controversial.

Huh?

Homeschooled kids aren't in a bubble. They go outside. They interact with other people. They aren't chained to a radiator in the home classroom. And no kid is formally educated before about age 5, and almost everyone (barring a developmental disability) talks by then anyway.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at September 13, 2023 02:34 PM (t0OGg)

So, the problem for kids under 5 was daycare, not schools being shut. At home, those kids stayed unmasked and learned as homeschoolers do. At daycare, they interacted for HOURS on end with kids and providers that were all masked, distorting their hearing and speaking of the language.

362 Some people seem to forget the entire western world closed down it wasn't just the US. It's a bit ridiculous to think in that environment with virtually the entire worldwide medical establishment, those who were allowed to speak anyway, recommending a course of action Trump would have been able to get away with trying to do something different. He would have been impeached and removed immediately.
---
It's hard to look back at because it's painful; how much we were lied to. So it's easier to just blame one person.
When you add up all the countries and all the various outlets that all pushed the same fear-- there were trillions spent to make Covid an "emergency."
Every far-left totalitarian around the world saw the same gold ring within reach.
No, it's BS to say one person could have stopped it.

Then its all a wash to me, and Trump makes no difference. Because he made no difference. As we're told daily, there was nothing he could do so none of the bad is ever his fault.

Then what's the sense in voting for him in '24 ? General fairness ?

In the primary, I'm probably going to vote DeSantis. Trump is most likely going to win the primary, and I'll vote for Trump in the general election.

However, PA, MI, WI, AZ, and GA will have done nothing to clean up their elections and the people's suffrage will be denied again, so it doesn't actually matter until the people in those states decide that they're sick of the bullshit.

405 Oh, how special ed takes more & more of public school funding! And where do our new teachers begin teaching in the"normal" public schools? Yup, special ed.

In lieu of (only) 13 to 15 kids per classroom, 5 kids and 3 teachers/aids and opportunity to tudor. (Or they can teach in charter schools in poorer areas & get paid crap on contract.)

The kids will seldom catch up because the common public schools need so much more money to operate & keep the teachers' contracts & pensions going. Add on an influx of migrant kids & their families in many school districts (No child shall be homeless, w/o food and medical care.) and special ed becomes the cash cow for funding.

They knew they could pull it off. How wrong is that.
