I, The ONT

It was a dark night in the bright city, the air was as thick as the noodle soup at Shanghai Rick's. Everyone knew there was a deluge coming, one that would wash the pimps, punks and other filth back into the sewers where they belonged. That's when she walked in. She was a real dish, with gams that went on for miles. Platinum blond, packing a pair of 38s and her grandmother's revolver, I knew she was trouble before she opened her mouth.

16 As funny as the memes are, the funniest thing I've seen today comes from the FT: "The UN has told banks including Citi, Goldman Sachs and BNP Paribas that their financing of Saudi Aramco may be in violation of global human rights rules because of the state-run oil company’s contribution to climate change.

A panel of UN appointed human rights specialists has sent letters to Aramco as well its financiers, following a 2021 legal complaint by environmental campaign group ClientEarth that accused Saudi Arabia’s oil company of the largest ever climate-related breach of international human rights law by a business."

And I was thirsty. The roscoe in my pocket, typically a comfort, added an extra reminder it was time to call it a day.
And then she walked in. Curves like a Monte Carlo race track and eyes that saw everything, and revealed nothing. I knew immediately it was going to be a long night and the bottle in the lower left drawer wasn't going to be enough.

ROTC? Oh, hell no. I was far too busy going to work soon as I got outta school at noon-thirty, every day.

Along with any other "extracurricular" school events, ROTC would've been a luxury of time that I could not then afford.

Pity. I had already been a well-coached shooter for more than three years, by then.

90 Has anyone heard about the Maui fires being caused by a DEW? (Directed energy weapon)

Ive seen a few videos on x. Stack of blue shirts surrounded by rubble, blue umbrellas untouched, old article about celeb homes with blue roofs. Circle of fire. Do I think the tech exists? Yes. Do I think there are people evil enough to use it? Yes. Is that what happened? Maybe.

I think I saw pictures of people riding the fires out in the water. I never saw any comments on the ground speed of the conflagration, which would be a non-trivial aspect of being able to get to the water.

Posted by: Commissar Hrothgar at August 25, 2023 10:41 PM (5kdlS)

92 I saw an explanation for why not many people were saved by getting in the water (some were) it got so hot that the docks and the boats caught fire, and then came a bunch of burning debris in the water. Apparently some people were burned while they were in the water.

I think the fires in some locations ran right up to the waters edge, so piers and boats could well have burned, at least above the water line.

Someone far away from the situation stupidly decided the road might be dangerous to travel (but everything was dangerous that day) so the told police to block the road and they obeyed without thinking. 127 Amusing Aldi story...back in 2017-2018 the MN city I lived in had the audacity to let a property developer build an Aldi and some apartments in town. Naturally, all the residents were good little donks and voted blue, and also voted to eject all but like one of the city officials for the heinous crime of letting The Poors have a foothold in their special little town. Seriously, I think it was like a single digit percentage of voters who accepted the incumbents' argument that the property developer lawfully bought the property and did the zoning, so it's their land.

Contrary to some rumors that it was all based on the 2020 riots, it was actually then that I started considering the long-term viability of the Midwest and making contingency plans. So when the Age of Karen came around, I was ready.

I think there is also a counter argument that although it IS a land grab, it is NOT for a 15 minute city/island becasue Maui is far too beautiful an island to be gven over to mere peasants. But amazingly, a lot of "powerful and connected" people already own large areas of land there, so it is an easy extension to Epstein Island writ large, but with only the very best people having ownership of any land there!

In my mind, it's not weird. They just don't want to work hard. It's the same reason why the trades are lacking competent people: Aversion to hard work. They want their ethnic lesbian poetry degree to be worth, straight out of college, at least a vice-presidency, a corner office, a company car and an expense account. Oh, and five weeks vacation and a healthy work-from-home schedule.

But this country supports vets. I would advise anyone in high school to at least look at the service. I know what the military did for my family. No company making widgets can do that.

What I think the yutes don’t get, because they aren’t told is veteran status in this country is as high as you can get. You don’t have to serve twenty years it could be as little as two back in the day. Looking back at life, I would advise anyone to serve right out of high school. IMAO, the media plays a big part. They practically drool over a shooting making shooters poster children for everything wrong with guns while completely ignoring the fact that most 'use of gun' events do not result in the discharge of a weapon (one of those sneaky Lies By Omission). Just having and showing it averts many, many potential disasters (read: Serious bodily harm). But if it bleeds and helps the anti-gun agenda, it leads.

You want to blow their minds, get them to consider carnivorous plants, like the pitcher plant and the Venus flytrap and many others.

The still get their energy from photosynthesis, but they need insect and even some very small animal tissue to get the nutrients they need, which they can't get from the soil.

There is an ocean snail that steals chlorophyll from some of the algae it eats and uses it to make energy for itself too.

Y'know, the tinkerer part of my brain thinks that could be a fun little project: remote controlled firecracker ignition and dispersal. Could make for some amusing security camera clips too.

329 I knew an electrician who built up his own company. He was doing rather well, but made the mistake of putting the company in his wife's name so he could more easily get Government construction contracts. Then she caught him cheating on her. Last time I saw him he was starting over with one van and a couple of spools of wire.

331 305 Civilians ignoring military service. This was rare 20 years ago. Today, but literally, who would like to be like today?

And if you are not sure I am pissed, I am.

Your arguments are sound, and thank you for your service. I do think ending the draft started the decline, generally. A friend and colleague who mustered out after four years in his mid 20's stalked his original recruiter to get back in after 9/11. That was probably the last peak for interest in serving.

I understand your frustration and it mirrors mine when I think of simple habits we can adopt to take better care of ourselves and keep our demons at bay. Boys are no longer encouraged to develop and test their physical limits and girls are no longer encouraged to develop domestic skills that are still very much in demand.

Again, thanks for serving. I did not have the honor, myself, but that does not mean I can't relate. I'm here for a bit if want to get me to go off on the evils of television...

There were some Utoob videos several years ago of a guy rigging up lawn sprinklers with motion detectors to discourage neighborhood cats from roaming in his backyard. Perhaps there are some ideas there.

I would not complain to see it supplant the Menken quote on the masthead.

Having had once to slit the throat of a badly shot deer, that is a miserable doing, indeed. It's far better, to simply press the trigger, once more.

Or in this instance, five times more.
