It feels fine when you say it. It sounds good when you hear it. The concept noble. And once upon a time our country strived to provide liberty and justice for all. No more. And it hasn't been that way for quite some time. I'm not sure when the erosion began. But it has been ongoing for a number of years. And what was once the Shining City on a Hill is now a fractured sludge tank of political power, greed and disdain of what is right and wrong. The current prosecutions of Donald Trump and a quick review of recent history shows to what great depth our nation has sunk. The recent history I speak of goes back to 2003 when former Clinton aide Sandy Berger stole classified documents from the National Archives. Berger got off with 2 misdemeanor convictions and a sentence of Please don't do that again Sandy. Mkay? What a complete Bull Shit sentence. Not to be outdone by a man named Sandy, Hillary Clinton said, "Here, hold my Chablis." Hillary destroyed documents which were under subpoena, mishandled classified information and kicked Bill's dog. We don't have time to review her other "foibles". The bitch was never faced any criminal charges. Perhaps her punishment was losing the 2016 Presidential election. Between Berger and Clinton, I don't know who got the last laugh. Other liars from the Obama regime? James Clapper and John Brennan come to mind. Nope, nothing happened to those two loathsome individuals except for some lucrative media deals. Well the FBI must be as pure as the wind driven snow? ***SNORT*** Have you forgotten liar, liar pants on fire Andrew McCabe? Another disgusting piece of debris from the D.C. septic tank. DOJ Lawyers Handling Trump J6 Case Declined to Prosecute Disgraced FBI Chief Andrew McCabe J.P. Cooney and Molly Gaston, longtime DOJ creatures now assigned to Special Counsel Jack Smith's team, refused to charge McCabe in 2020. But just a few years ago, Gaston appeared unconcerned with “lies” told by another top government official. Gaston and fellow prosecutor J.P. Cooney, also currently assigned to Smith’s team, informed Andrew McCabe—the former acting FBI Director who was fired in 2018 for lying to federal investigators—that he would not be charged. “We write to inform you that, after careful consideration, the Government has decided not to pursue criminal charges against your client, Andrew G. McCabe, arising from the referral by the Office of the Inspector General to our office of conduct described in OIGs April 18, 2018 report, entitled ‘A Report of Allegations Relating to Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe,’” Gaston and Cooney wrote to Michael Bromwich and David Schertler, McCabe’s attorneys, in February 2020. “Based on the totality of the circumstances and all of the information known to the Government at this time, we consider the matter closed.” James Comey leaks and lies and is set for life with his pension and book deal. Funny thing, no one has interviewed Martha Stewart asking her opinion about fibbing to the FBI. And lastly there is our Resident of The White House, MushHead Joe. He may have the IQ of instant mashed potatoes, but he does have chutzpah. While busy storing classified documents next to his car. He had his rival and our former president arrested for possessing classified documents at his residence. Victor Davis Hanson looks at our divided country. Two Sets of Laws for Two Americas Two sets of laws now operate in an increasingly unrecognizable America. Consider the matter of unlawfully removing and storing classified papers. Donald Trump may go to prison for removing contested White House files to his home. So far, Joe Biden seems exempt from just such legal jeopardy. But as a senator and vice president with no right, as does a president, to declassify files, Biden removed and, as a private citizen, kept for years classified files in unsecured locations. Biden's team strangely revealed the unlawful removals after years of silence. It did so because the Biden administration found itself in the untenable position of prosecuting the former president for "crimes" that the current president committed as well -- albeit far earlier and longer. So we continue on our Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I was reflecting this morning on rather trivial story, but one that reflects how institutions fall apart gradually, and then suddenly. I don't care about college football these days, but it's been a bit fascinating to read how surprised everyone in the Media is at the collapse of the PAC-12. It's been in trouble for years, of course, but the people running it were promising new deals, new money, and big revival constantly right up until last week, and every reporter covering that segment believed them.
and then, in one 5 hour period last Friday, the whole thing collapsed, and now it's all over but the crying. As I said, gradually, and then suddenly. That's how big things fail. The funny part is how shocked all of its supporters are. Posted by: Tom Servo at August 08, 2023 11:13 AM (i9ffA) 45

Axshully, I would argue there is no law for those who oppose the regime, only consequences. Trump had ever right to take the documents he did under the Presidential Records Act. He broke no laws and at worst the issue with the government's librarian is a civil matter not criminal. Yet they are trying to twist the law, with the help of their propaganda organ we know as the media, to ignore the facts and make Trump into a criminal. Biden broke multiple laws by taking and keeping documents. It makes no difference that he gave some back when the FBI finally got around to asking. He was only a Senator and then VP when he illegally took the documents and those are felonies. A far more interesting question to me is exactly what documents did Trump take and why was the regime so determined to get them back? Odd that issue is never really discussed. Rogue DAs, rogue judges, rogue US Attorneys, rogue FBI, rogue IRS are undermining the US legal system, applying legal processes to political enemies while ignoring or "deeming" a process to be a sufficient resolution of the "law" for political affiliates. And Trump was the only one who by law could have those documents, yet he's the one being prosecuted.
Remember the NYT (or WaPo) admitted that Hillary broke many laws, but then said her losing in 2016 should be punishment enough, so wouldn't that be the same as Trump losing in 2020? But then again even these don't use the twisted logic as the NYC case where Trump is charged with a crime that can only be a crime if it's connected to another crime, but they can't actually say what the original crime was because there wasn't any. The MIT researchers who developed the system say that their supercapacitor could eventually be incorporated into the concrete foundation of a house, where it could store a full day’s worth of energy while adding little (or no) to the cost of the foundation and still providing the needed structural strength.
When capacitors fail they go with a bang. Old style televisions were notorious for this kind of failure, the loud bang which preceded the magic smoke was usually caused by capacitors suffering catastrophic dielectric failure, and releasing all their stored energy in a fraction of a second. What concerns me is, if a TV capacitor explodes, abruptly releasing a few joules of energy, you spill your beer and curse a bit. But if a 10KWh household super capacitor goes, that’s 36 million joules of energy – equivalent to 8.6Kg of TNT, enough to turn your house into a sizeable crater. 10KW (10,000 watt hours) x 3600 seconds in an hour = 36,000,000 joules of energy 36,000,000 joules / 4,184 joules / gram = 8,604g = 8.6Kg (18.9lbs) of TNT Posted by: SMOD at August 08, 2023 11:18 AM (RHGPo) 66

Sorry to seem like I’m picking on you, MisHum, you’re hardly the only conservative writer to do this. MisHum: You write that you're not sure when the U.S. political began to fail. But it's very easy. How long has Joey the Vegetable been in one office or another? Mitch McConnell? Bernie Sanders? Diane Feinstein? Nancy Pelosi? Look at our Congress and realize how long too many of these people have been in office, most without spending a single day working a real job or being responsible for meeting a payroll.
Joey the Vegetable has been in office for fifty years. Can we pin the decline and fall of what used to be America to the moment he was first sworn into office? Since then, we've just added barnacle after barnacle. Posted by: Captain Josepha Sabin -- Persian cats are nothing more than 24/7 shedding machines. at August 08, 2023 11:21 AM (B7rlW) 79

When capacitors fail they go with a bang. Old style televisions were notorious for this kind of failure, the loud bang which preceded the magic smoke was usually caused by capacitors suffering catastrophic dielectric failure, and releasing all their stored energy in a fraction of a second.
When tube-era capacitors failed they did go with a bang, because the construction was primitive (actual wax paper!) and they were subjected to high voltages, and often not-entirely-flat DC (400 volts for the main B+ rail in a tube TV wasn't uncommon). After that only late 70s/early 80s across-the-AC-line caps (the infamous RIFA brand, what are now "type X" and "type Y" safety caps) did any banging, which is why it's a pain to track down failures. In regards to DeSantis, it's kind of interesting how we forget where we were a short time ago.
The 2022 mid-terms went over like a wet fart for republicans. The power of Trump didn't lead to massive victories or upsets, and the landscape seemed to have shifted away from him. At the same time DeSantis was surging and throwing red meat to the crowds like he was a freaking lion tamer. DeSantis' run didn't just come out of nowhere. Trump had an air of vulnerability at the same time DeSantis was acting on a very conservative platform. You can say what you want about where we are now, but let's not forget how we got here. It's not even one set of laws. It's just a world where they do whatever the fuck they want. Including setting up phony prosecutions under the *pretense* of law. No slight on the article writer but IMO the more we call this a "double standard" or "hypocrisy", the further into the abyss we sink. It's not two standards. It's not even one standard. They make up the rules that their enemies must supposedly follow, minute to minute. They twist and bend codified law to subjugate anyone in their way. And they follow no law. That's it. And setting aside the screaming and censorship from the progs, which is what is known as a clue to anyone who has dealt with a 3-year-old stealing cookies - The simple analysis on randomness of late-reported vote totals screams "fraud". When typically the vote count continues until it's done, we saw seven states where Trump was well ahead stop the count simultaneously. Then when we woke up in the morning, they all admitted that they had continued counting unsupervised and Biden was magically ahead by just enough to avoid automatic recounts. No more information is necessary to know that the election was stolen. More would be useful in terms of charging the conspirators, if there was a legal system, but not to know *that* it happened. Just curious, what specific theories floated by Powell, Giuliani, et al were proven demonstrably true to show the election was "stolen"? I'm genuinely interested.
Kari Lake's been able to prove some things in court regarding Maricopa. I don't think it rises to the level of proving a steal, but it's certainly adjacent to that. And she said there's a whistleblower in Michigan who claims they were counting post-it notes with "Biden" scrawled on them as ballots. Posted by: Ian S. at August 08, 2023 12:00 PM (ZGrMX) 284

>>I genuinely ask because both Trump and the GOP need to put this into materially proven sound bites. I'm shocked they haven't done that yet. They get attacked over and over for the "stolen election" phrasing, yet nobody has responded in an effective way to turn this on the questioners (e.g. how can C County have 10 votes and only 5 residents?, etc).
Every time they do the media and the left just say "That's not proof" just like the do with the obvious proof of Joe's guilt. Any state that allowed anyone other than the state legislature to change their voting rules is in violation of the Constitution. Nobody cares. Illegal unguarded drop boxes. Nobody cares. A coordinated shutdown of voting counting in the six states Trump was winning that miraculously flipped to Biden days later and no real investigation nobody cares. Posted by: BurtTC at August 08, 2023 11:57 AM (dGCAG) I'm not holding my breath, but I do find it curious that Trump seems to want the latest prosecution to go forward quickly. One of the charges seems to be that he was committing fraud in claiming the election was stolen. But to be guilty of that, he'd have to know the opposite, which means he could present any evidence he has of the theft as part of his defense that he didn't know any such thing. And the proof standard wouldn't be particularly high to keep that evidence relevant since it's only going to show what he knew at the time, rather than having to provide a level of proof that would convince a judge to overturn the stated election results. Agree but the legal team put together to present that case failed miserably.
Posted by: polynikes ----- IN PA, white shoe law firms hired before the election via retainers suddenly said we can't represent you. Individual lawyers were threatened with loss of livelihood if they represented Trump. In key states, GOP leaders of the legislature specifically refused to actually conduct any investigations and post election, WI Speaker of House Robin Voss actually fired a former Sup. Ct. Justice from the investigation that the legislature approved. Multiple anomalies outside the margin of error occurred in Michigan and Arizona in vote tabulation, and so on. Expecting to reveal a massive multi state, multi part fraud in a couple of weeks is an unrealistic expectation. To challenge, you had to wait for certification of the election which can be as long as December in some states. Posted by: whig at August 08, 2023 12:04 PM (bk5GW) 302

C) It doesn't erase the lengthy portions in Romans about earthly authorities being appointed by God and required submission thereto. It's something of a conundrum when considering Christian teachings and consistency or inconsistency with revolution or resistance, even against the most evil of despots. I think it's something that merits pretty deep consideration and soul-searching, not hand-waving it away.
- Paul and the other apostles routinely ignored government orders whenever they contradicted God's instructions. And part of that detail Paul gives is the few functions of government that make human government at all tolerable to God, mainly the punishing of evil. Any government not doing that isn't covered by Paul's comments. Posted by: Methos at August 08, 2023 12:08 PM (Dnobf) 316

Posted by: Marcus T ------- To put it mildly, you are wrong and ignorant of what is out there. Absent any real investigation where the actual election people at the local level are put on the stand, under oath, and without massive Dem financial and legal support, you won't get a smoking gun. But forensic accountants reports, statistician reports, court evidence from other cases (GA had an election case involving Stacey Abrams with damning testimony) eyewitness accounts, etc. all are facts that need to be discussed. What you probably will not like, there is a strong implication that a lot of GOPe administrators and elected officials went along with the voter fraud to get rid of Trump. I'm waiting for Dinesh Desouza to get charged because of his movie about the election. It's making a claim about ballot box stuffing and that interferes with elections just like Trump did in Georgia. Republicans especially don't want to vote anymore because they are told by people on their own side the elections are rigged. So we need to lock up everyone making claims of election chicanery because it's election interference.

That's really the challenge. When asked these questions there is a lot of punting, gesticulation and sighing but no facts. Posted by: Marcus T I think you have failed to understand the key issue. Electoral fraud is a law enforcement issue. It is addressed via criminal investigations and prosecutions. The legal Constitutional challenges were a dead end. SCOTUS was quite clear and I think correct. How is one to get evidence of a crime? Why did the GOP not pressure GOP AGs and DAs to investigate and prosecute? Why did the DOJ not investigate and prosecute? If the issue is whether or not cheating actually happened, and you aren't sure, then there is nothing to talk about. As you are impervious to reality.
