The kittens are back together. After Dagny's snip surgery, Stirling went to visit Miss Linda for a week, so the girl kitten could recover. Now they are galloping and streaking around just as before. Stirling has not kneaded or nuzzled me yet; perhaps he needs to settle down.

Oh, I skipped the dealer's urging of an extended warranty four years ago; that money has gone into the bank. And the red beast is long paid off and has been trouble-free.

There is a GM technician website referencing various messages and problems on the cars. Once I know the codes that the car is throwing, I can look them up specifically and get an idea what the remedy is supposed to be. Hell, it *might* be something as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Meanwhile I have to be careful while driving that I don't exceed the speed limit with no speedometer and collect a ticket.

My so far fool proof method of dealing with bouts of insomnia is to take (2) low-dose chewable aspirin, (1) high dose extended release tylenol, (3) high dose melatonin and if it's really bad, throw in a couple Valerian root capsules.

Folken! I went out and disconnected the battery, then reconnected. Everything except the TPMS readouts is back!!! There's a reset TPMS routine out there somewhere, and it might require a relearning tool or a visit to a tire shop. But everything else is back. (Okay, not the temp readout -- which I hate and won't miss. But when I had this battery replaced, it took a few minutes of driving for that to come back.)

Good call. It's a cesspool, and I spent my whole career working for public universities in relatively sane states. I'm too old to change careers entirely but I found a role where I can do practical work 95% of the time instead of jumping through faculty hoops.

Covid was the final straw for me. Librarians - who claim to be superheroes of intellectual freedom - shouting down and un-personing anyone who dared to suggest doing your own research or questioned Our Betters' pronouncements. Many libraries stopped doing inter-library loan because books from other libraries might have cooties. As late as 2022 a large library in the region still hadn't restarted ILL. My library at the time closed for spring semester 2020, but offered curbside pickup service. And books were quarantined when returned. The conference I went to *this May* still had about 1/3 of attendees wearing masks and they passed out tests at registration.

Imagine where you would be in life today if you hitched a ride with a plumber, electrician, mechanic or HVAC technician.

All those trades I'm pretty damn good at except the AC part of HVAC. The reason is I had an actual father who I observed doing repairs - I watched and learned - and if he could do it, I could too. Now my son does his own repairs because he observed me.

So it's sad that a certain contingent of society is poorly represented in those trades. Sad but understandable. But LBJ wanted them voting (D) for the next 100 years so he tossed the banana peel out there for them.

One of the heads developed a leak, and due to to the age there is no ready replacement at Home Depot. The water pipe is exposed, so someone just need to cut off the head off and cap it. IN THEORY this is a simple job. But I don't want to do something stupid and cause a bigger problem for myself. If something happens while a plumber is doing the work, I assume he has the knowledge and equipment to deal with it. Also, any unnecessary delay in getting the water back on will not keep me in good standing with the Mrs.

The water pipe is exposed, so someone just need to cut off the head off and cap it.

If it's a standard 1/2" supply line, you can buy a slip on cap at either Lowes or Home Depot in the Sharkbite section. A pipe cutter, too if you don't have one.

Cut your pipe then mark it 15/16th of an inch from the end. Slide Sharkbite fitting to mark. Turn water back on. The end.
